The P-39 had 1 37mm in the nose hub, 2 30cal in the nose and 2 or 4 .50cal in the wings. i mean she would be a mean ground atack aircraft. She is so sweet. Just look at her.:D
-
...dont give me a P-39...
..the engine, its mounted behind...
...she'll tumble and spin and she'll auger you in,
dont give me a P-39!
:)
-
The armament should be 1x37, 2x .50 cal in the nose and 4x .30 cal in the wings....but I like the P400 loadout...
1x 20 Hispano, 2x .50 cal in the nose and 4x .30 cal in the wings.......
bring her on!!!!
-
Very nice bird... I would like to see her in AH myself along with all the other great WWII aircraft....(S):)
-
King Cobra would be better in here IMO.
-
what's wrong with a motor behind your back Tac ?
i love it
:D
In Il-2 it's a true 109 killer ;)
bring it on
-
One of my favorites!
My father-in-law flew P-39s and RP-63s.

We need a good ground tank killer. Yea shele spin if the engin is hurt but you call allwasae bail out.
-
Now Now Tac ;) Test Pilots and Engineers could never get a P-39 to tumble.
Viper, the Russian NS-37 37mm cannon mounted in the Yak-9T, which we already have, was a much superior cannon to the 37mm mounted on the P-39 in all ways. If it doesn't get the job done, the US 37mm isn't gonna come close.
I would much prefer the P-63 for AH, but both are quite interesting aircraft in their own way. :)

P-39D with P-400 armament loadout option for Pacific Theater, USAAF markings.
P-39N or P-39Q with red stars for the Eastern Front.
Would be a nice addition.
-
The tumble was a myth. It would , though, go into a series of 'whip-stalls' if the stick was continuesly held back after stalling, which, when viewed from the ground, could appear as a tumble.

I read that most of the problems were caused by getting into spins at low altitudes. I think this is where the nasty reputation comes from.

The P63 saw almost no service in WW2.
Anyway the P39 is very important for early war USA and for the Russians. Id really love to get an early P39/P400 in USA Pacific markings so we can recreate some of the battles in Sakai's book. Of course wed also need Zero 21, F4F, P40 and one of my favorites the P36- a truly beautiful aircraft IMHO.

Agreed lets not try to talk a P63 in........it had one kill in the whole of WWII............
A P39 should come in VVS colours............ it was the prefered ride of the 2nd highest scoring (and generally more reveered) Allied ace who swopped his La7 back in preference for the P39.

Actually the P63 did see a fair amount of usage in WWII with the VVS, They have have not had large amount of kills but as for combat missions they had more then the F4U-4 did. I am trying to find a book on the P39/P63 that has kills and history of usage in the VVS. And hours of flight based off of Russian Documents.
The P-39 should be included due to its uniqeness, wide use, and because it looks bad with shark teeth.
P-63 should be brought in also but at a much later release.
So my wish list is.
P-400 in Pacific markings
P-39D in Pacific markings
P-39Q in Soviet
and P-63 in Soviet.

I whole-heartidly agree that the P39 would make a fine addition to Aces High. However, I throw my arms up into the air on deciding in what markings: whether Russian or American. I'm really in favor of the early war planes being fleshed out in the game and with the introduction of some Battle Of Britain types in the upcoming version, maybe that is a sign of things to come. However, I prefer the Pacific Theater and the "famous" fighters in that plane set that we have are the F6F-5, A6M5 and a buttload of F4Us. Would be nice to add an F4F and then work on some variants of what is already in the game such as an early P38 or the F6F-3 (I vote the tri-color scheme w/ the big red mouth on the cowl) and certainly early Zekes. Then P40s, etc., etc. We'll soon have four Spits (counting the seafire), a load of 109s and 190s and even two Hurricanes but we are severely lacking in choices for the Pacific. Anyway, you have my support for the P39. Maybe it should be US markings. I just can't see substituting red star emblazonned P39s in a Pac War scenario.
Woops, make that three Hurricanes when 1.09 arrives. Only one F6F and only one Zeke variant. Shame, shame.
-
Steven you right a F4F would be realy good. Only if the geer takes a long time yo be retracted. They were retracted by a hand crank into the fuelsilage. But There are to many spit piolits and mepiolits. The P-400 ,P-36 or eaven the P-63 would be apreacheated here. Because look at my name, Viper. i need a snake named plane. My name sake is the quick ground strike teqneque*. i would love it to have that capibility in an american plane.
Look out the poison will get you.

What Funkedup said.

Man.. Viper should have won that award for "muchest broke Englees". :D
-
P39 dilemma, USA or Soviet markings?
Very simple, early P39/P400 gets USA markings, later P39
gets Soviet markings!
But we should get the early version first. :)

Urchin the reason is that i cant spell for crap. Im only 15 and to boot im a sped kid.:(

No worries, I was just teasing :). Besides, you can't be to dumb, or you wouldn't know how to operate a computer, much less play a relatively complicated game like AH.

buy IL-2 Sturmovik if you want a taste of the P-39 ... and yes, the gun is great for shooting up trucks and stuff, especially with the amount of detail in IL-2 !!

In my opinion, the MA pretty much has all that it needs especially in terms of fighters. Though there is a great choice of planes available to the player, there are a few planes that see an overwhelming amount of use. The Hurricane and IL-2 should be great ground attack aircraft but you hardly see them and that's because even during the real war, no one would've sent them into a situation that is the MA. And this leads me to thinking the P-39 would not be used all that much in the MA...it would probably just thin out and compete for time those types already being used by those few brave souls who will take up a lesser ground-attack aircraft. In the MA with the P-39, Hurri, BF-110 or IL-2, none of these planes are great air-air or pack a huge air-ground punch compared to things like the Typhoon, F4U-1C, P-47, P-38 and Mossie and others that have good guns and can carry a large ordnance load. The MA will always see the greatest performing (late model) aircraft overwhelm the other lesser types. And this leads me to forecast an evolution with Aces High. The Special Events and the Combat Theater! (Well, I can hope at least.) Maybe now is the time to start introducing aircraft in theme-packages. It appears we may see that soon with a Battle of Britain set including another Hurricane, another Spitfire, another 109 with an added BF-110. Sure, you'll see these aircraft on occasion in the MA, but it's not going to have any real affect. If the P-39 is added, and I hope it is, it should probably come with a set that includes the P-40, F4F Wildcat and maybe an early P-38 and certainly an A6M2 and A6M3! Odd we have so many 109, 190, Spit, Hurri variants (two Yaks, two LA's, 202 and 205) with just one P38 and Zeke! Anyway, I had a few minutes on my hand and I guess I wanted to thrown some words this way.
I look forward to the BOB set and hope to see an early-Pac set one day too.

I know but we need early war strafer and american fighter. The P-39 was EXCILENT when use in a way it wasent made fore. The P-63 would be beter than a P-39. But it would be in Russian colurs < don know how to spell>. The Strong armement of 1 37mm and 2 50cal in the nose and 2 50cal in the wingroots would make it great at just about anything you could think of. Ground atack bomber hunting and dogfighting. The P-63 "KingCobra" speed was 432 mph and an alt of 30,000 or more.

Lol Viper that was pretty obvious even without mentioning it

Commonwealth Boomerang. And I wont hear another word about it.
