REF:ACES HIGH USER LANGUAGE SYSTEM

GREETINGS ALL ACES HIGH PILOTS!

PLEASE CONSIDER E-MAILING THE ACES HIGH STAFF AND REQUESTING THEIR CONSIDERATION OF THE FOLLOWING IDEA.
PLEASE HAVE THEM THINK ABOUT UPGRADING THE ACES HIGH LANGUAGE FILTER SYSTEM.
IN THE HEAT OF BATTLE(FUN) I TOLD EVERY BODY #$%! HERE COMES THE ENEMY!I RECEIVED AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT IF I CONTINUED THIS MY RADIO PRIVILEGES WOULD BE SUSPENDED.
I CERTAINLY AM SORRY IF I OFFENDED ANY ONE.BUT, RESPECTFULLY WE ARE PLAYING A COMBAT SIMULATOR GAME THAT SIMULATES COMBAT.I DON'T KNOW ABOUT NET RULES FOR THESE GAMES BUT IT SEEMS TO ME THAT ACES HIGH SHOULD HAVE A RATING SYSTEM IN PLACE.IF YOU DON'T WANT JUNIOR PLAYING THEN YOU CAN SET THE GAME UP TO DO JUST THAT.
I BELEIVE THAT WE SHOULD ALL CONDUCT OURSELVES AS LADIES AND GENTLEMEN BUT I THOUGHT THE IDEA OF A COMBAT SIMULATOR GAME WAS TO SIMULATE COMBAT.I SERVED IN THE MARINE CORPS AND IT WAS NOT ALL PERFECT.I THINK THE GAME SUFFERS IF A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF REALISM IS NOT PRESERVED!

ACES HIGH!

You mean something like:

OH MY GOD!  THE BASTARDS SHOT MY F*CKING TAIL OFF!

or

KILL THAT NO-GOOD-SUNUVABICH THAT JUST PUT A 20mm THROUGH MY F*CKING SKULLCAP!!

I agree, some foul mouthed language is completely appropriate in battle but what tends to happen is this:

HEY YOU FACEstudmuffinGING HO!  SUK MY C*CK!

or

YOU ABSOLUTELY SUK YOU MUTHERF*CKER!

This is why we have to have a certain level of restraint forced on the community through a radio text check program.

Y

GOOD POINT SIR,

HOW ABOUT A RATING SYSTEM COMBINED WITH A COMPLAINT SYSTEM SIMILAR TO FIGHTER ACE ON MSN.:)

Theres a filter, live with it. You can't swear, live with it.

Everyone likes a good swear when frustrated but isnt it easier to yell it out at the top of your lungs instead of typing it? Yes? Do that then.

For those who don't swear, we &*#^ing salute you.

Like this subject hasnt been beaten to death recently.

The overwhelming majority of responces to this kind of behavior, swearing in AH, is that most would prefer the filter stay on.  I would even like to see the childish abberations of swear words added to the list.

Just because someone wishes to display their lack of intelligence and maturity shouldnt mean the rest of the players should need to prevent family members from playing/seeing the game, nor be embarrassed to show it to friends.

I would prefer the foul mouthed few leave rather than the profanity filter relaxed.

BTW: It isnt combat, its a game.

I APPRECIATE THE INPUT OF 3 SENIOR MEMBERS.I'LL JUST LIVE WITH THE FILTER.ALSO, I LOVE THE GAME AND I WOULD NOT WANT TO SEE ACES HIGH POSSIBLY LOSE REVENUE IN THE CHANGE.I DON'T THINK A COMBAT SIM GAME IS APPROPRIATE FOR EVERY ONE.I.E. VIOLENCE.I JUST THOUGHT THAT ADDING MORE REALISM WITH SOME BASIC RULES OF CONDUCT WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD IDEA.HOWEVER, RIGHT NOW THE GAME IS STILL FUN AND I CAN LIVE WITH THE FILTER.;)

Wes I've never understood it, but for some reason it's considered bad form to use caps on the internet.  I think people interpret it as yelling.  *shrugs*

By the way Wes, I hope to see you for TOD in two weeks.  I'll send orders again when we get them.  :)

For what it's worth, I have noticed that "chickenshit" gets past the filter. Probably not on software's list.:p

My regards,

Filters are useless. You can beat them with l33tsp34k or british pronounciations (ye know, unneccesary vowel and consonant substitutions.. fug the fug'n fediddleers!) ;) .

Best filters are humans. HTC tried putting some moderators, but they arent on all 3 countries at once or in all sectors (purple text) at once and cant really be effective.

So the best option is a VOTE system. It works wonders in many other online games.. NETREK (oldie game) comes to mind...

person A is being a real jerk in team chat.. if you can get X # of votes then that person was EJECTED from the game for an hour.

To prevent abuse, certain limits would be placed.

Like, total players in arena when vote is started: X . % of votes needed to eject: X / 3 (3 countries) when vote is cast in CH1

CH2 vote = 20% of the X # of players in country when vote is started in CH2.

Penalty can be less severe though.. perhaps a 10 minute muting?

And since this is kept on the server, logging off and back on does not remove the mute or eject penalty.

all caps reminds me of that cartoon "cathy" where 2 frames go by and then she flips out and yells about something. it looks hectic or whatever...i dont know who cares

I salute you Wes, after discussing the issue, you politely accepted the comments of others and didnt attack or try to defend an unpopular opinion.

More class than most of us show.   Now, if we can just work on that caps lock thing.  :)

you can also bypass the filter by just adding punctuation at the end of the vile word.

I can just see it now, "Vote to boot so and so off because he's looking at me funny!".  While the vote system is an OK idea, it's something that can be abused really easy.

Until HTC is willing to staff the arena with GameOps to help police the arena, I think the profanity filter is the best choice.  As a former GameOp/Tech for AW, I'd rather have the profanity filter than having somone patrol the arena as a Language Cop.

Now a complaint feature that takes a capture of the radio chat logs so a TOS enforcement team can read them and take appropiate actions would be a good idea.

Yes, thats why a certain % of votes will be needed.

a Knit player will not be able to get 30 of his knit friends to boot, say, fester (bish) before he whacks all their arado's down. Why? Because he'll need to have 10 people from EACH country to eject him with a ch1 vote.

Ch2 votes are more conservative, but still needing a certain number of votes.
