Title: Planes of Fame Airshow May 18/19 Chino California
Post by: funkedup on February 03, 2002, 10:43:10 PM
It's that time of year again!

I hope to see some of you guys at the airshow:
http://www.planesoffame.org/airshow.htm

They just added a Hurricane Mk. I and a Spitfire LF Mk. IX to their flying collection:  http://www.planesoffame.org/spit_hurri.htm

Planes that have flown/will fly in the Airshow since 1999:

Bf 109E
A6M
Yak-3
P-38
P-47
P-51
P-63
B-25
A-26
B-17
He 111
F4F
TBF
F4U
F6F
Spitfire
Hurricane
Sea Fury
A-1 Skyraider
MiG-15
F-86
F-15
F-16
A-10
F/A-18
Plus a lot of other aircraft I am forgetting.
Plus a lot of military vehicles (Sherman, jeeps, etc)

It's not just static displays.  Everything flies.  There are a lot of formation flybys, and usually some aerobatics by some of the WWII fighters.  See ya there.  :)

daddog,

flights down there are cheap.  book now.  I just flew into Orange County (John Wayne airport) from Oakland for less than 100 round trip.  LAX might be even cheaper.

cya there!

Central Colifornia = SF-SJ. You call it a long drive? 4.5 hours at most.

I'll see you at Chino daddog. :D

P.S. Before I relocated to SJ, for six months my wife and/or I drove 360 miles between LA and SJ every weekend.

Are you impressed? :)

That spit looks like the same plane I saw about 10 years ago at an airshow in N. Ireland.   The 109 it was doing combat with flew circles around it, but of course, the spit still won! hehehe

Sling,

The fare I posted above was on Southwest.  It was to Orange county, which I think was about 20 miles from the Chino airport.

I am going to try and make it to the show.  Hell, I live in LA, very easy for me to get there.

Let me know what day everyone will be there.  You can all make fun of me as I droll over the Kitty (not that you all need something to make fun of me for).  :)

Everybody:  I'm going to be there for the Saturday show.  I'll keep this thread punted up.  We'll come up with a place and time to meet, something like "10 am at the Sherman tank" or the B-17 or something obvious.

Rap - Hiya bud, I already visited that site.  :)
Hammer - We'll have to do that.  :)

Hey Guys!

I live down here in SoCal too. Been there the past few years and it is AWESOME! Very worthwhile to travel to. I may even be able to convince a few squaddies (418 Hornets) to come down!:D  Anways, if any of you guys are meeting up there, let me know!

P.S. - If any out-of-towners need help setting up lodging , getting directions, or just have a general question, feel free to ask. I'll help out any way I can.

Regards,

Mike (firemn)

I just flew a Texan in Florida. It was a free bonus ride for the graduates of Tom Reilly's Warbirds Restoration School (in addition to a ride in "Panchito", a B25J Mitchell). Their normal charge is around $300/hour, or $450/hour for the full aerobatic schtick.

They had some P-51 there as well, I don't know an exact price, but I think it is  around $600-700/hour.

According to Tom Reilly, an hour of flight for the B25J is $750. It is the owner cost, not the rental fee.

I would strongly recommend a Texan flight. This plane is wonderful to fly.

I'm about 1.5 hours south and I'm gonna try to make it.  Will there be some designated meeting place or the exchange of cell phone numbers?
