lost my BB account doh!
long time since i needed to post on here
but i read quite often..
I was in AH one night as I usually am,
and someone mentioned a game called
world war 2 online.
and told me to look at http://www.wwiionline.com
so i did.
I love AH and i have heard good and bad things
from reading the ww2online forums
and I wanted opinions of people here
before i downloaded the free 14 day trial which is 100MB i think.
I was worried ww2ol might have a cheap flight model but i was reading
This Thread (http://www5.playnet.com/bv/wwiiol/dg_message.jsp?page=1&group_id=8802&parent_id=144030)
and it seems quite good.
A) Who has tried it?
B) Is it worth downloading the Trial?
C) How is the AIR war compared to AH
D) How is the ground war compared to AH
Thanks for your time.
I apreciate and respect you guys so tell me if i should waste my time or not..

whats your AH nic...........:)
-
foxton
-
how long have you flown AH with that nic? Are you in a squad?
-
ww2ol flight model is........errrrr.......differ ent.
The way i look at it the ww2ol FM is like the "The Never Ending StorE"- your E just goes on and on and on. I can perform flat turns with the blenhiem with little loss of speed. As soon as your wheels lift off the runway at 120mph you can perform a full 90 degree climb, stall and recover before you hit the floor and fly away.
IMO the flight aspect of ww2ol is very under-developed- give it a year or two before it becomes semi-realistic. No matter what CRS says it is no where near being realistic, DocDoom must be trying really hard not to laugh when he says it's realistic.
Atleast in ww2ol you don't have to worry about hitting the ground- if you crash land just lower your gear and takeoff again:D.The damage model is very under developed- it seems you can only damage the pilot or the engine. No taking off ailerons, elevators here.
However it does have some good things. It's quite fun strafing tanks and troops . Also the ground model is very good and beats the pants off AH (for tanks atleast) but the infantry model has some issues.
I'm also quite bitter with CRS so take my post with a pinch of salt cause i'm proabaly biased against them.

is it worth the 100mb download?
-
Definitly worth the download. Ground war is very good but air war is kinda... different. It's hard to find the enemy, user interface is unfriendly and you need a hefty machine with lotsa memory to fly with a decent framerate.
the trail version is definitly BIGGER then 100 MB, expect about 200 Mb minimum.

I tried it, stupid software is buggy as hell, the graphics were gay and it just took forever to load and that was on a fast PC.
AH for flying, Day of Defeat for ground battle thank you very much.

Bad news :
Ok doesn't sound good re FM from what you guys say..
Good News:

I have a 850mhz with 256mb ram. gf2 gts
I was reading i heard u need like 512ram!! omg!

could be just a kid wotan...in H2H

I find this sudden rash of "Oh by the way... WWIIOnline..." threads disconcerting.

I'm not a kid,
But i respect your defence of me pimpjoe.
Wotan,
You are cynical but i will answer your questions, because
I respect also your protective nature towards AH. Although i find it quite disrespectfull.
I am not a paying member of AH, I play H2H team servers.
I signed up before i had a joystick which was a big mistake.
That out of the way, (sigh)
I was thinking of subscribing to AH
(which i didn't want to mention)
then i came accross ww2
which i must try before I pay for either.
I can't afford both.
But this isn't a ww2ol vs AH thread or anything nasty
it was just to find out who had tried ww2ol.
If i ask at the ww2ol site it will be all "positive-bias" responses
If i ask here i know i will get "negative-bias" responses
That way i can get a down to earth answer
My questions no longer are valid because i have got the game on CD loading up on my other machine as I type.
I have a very negative opinion of ww2 based on your answers
so i am not expecting much.
If you are interested I will post my experience here
if not i will respectfully let this thread drop to the bottom.
