Title: deeply disturbing.. plz read
Post by: loser on February 04, 2002, 10:47:56 AM
this past weekend a terrible and sickening thing happened.

In St Albert, Alberta Canada (near Edmonton.) some fediddleed up watermelon went down.

3 "teens" attacked a 10 year old boy and took took the dog that the child was walking.  They took the dog by his collar and hung it from some playground equipment and made the boy watch.

wtf is wrong with kids guys?

:(

the worst part is the kid is 10 years old.... so its not like he is going to forget this.  in addition the dog was 8 years old...the poor bugger grew up with this dog only to see it brutally "murdered" in front of his eyes.

now when i heard this, i immediately thought as most of us would.  "Catch those bastards that hanged the dog and string them up."

but of course after the rage ceased and the sick feeling in my gut lessened, i had a thought.

the 3 teens can go to an animal clinic and be responsible for uthenizing pets.  not stray dogs and cats mind you....but pets who have been with families for years.  Of course when owners bring their pets in to be put down, the owners are with their pets when they die.  perhaps if the teens could see how heart wrenching it is for a family or person to lose a "member of their family," they might understand the significance of what they did.

i dunno,  im still kinda choked at this story..... your thoughts?:(

Sounds like those 3 teens have a miserable and poor life ahead of them.  I can find some solace knowing they will probably waste their life away in either a minimum wage manual labor job or prison.  Life isn't pretty when your a dirtbag.

Heard the same thing on the radio this morning.  It turns my stomache to hear crap like this.  There has never been a point in my life where I haven't had a pet of some sort (2 dogs, although one passed earlier this summer).  They have their own unique personality and character about them.  I *do* regard them as a member of the family.  These kids should be tried for murder, as they murdered a member of a family.  The radio also said the boy has been crying uncontrollably since the incident.  Can you imagine what this is going to do to him???

@%&(@&#*!   I'd like to find those 3 kids and give them a taste of their own medicine.. thats just wrong.

Did they catch these 3 little bastards?  I have read many times that individuals that abuse humans (murder, assault, rape) start their "career" by abusing animals.  Loser, your method of punishment sounds like a good one.

Well this "event" happend about 4 blocks from where I live.  I recognize the parents picture in the paper having seen them walking in my neighborhood.

At first glance I wondered if the young boy made it all up as he certainly had some very minute details of the teens.  Upon further consideration and I feel my initail assessment may be incorrect.

The info printed should make these kids standout in a crowd and they should be found quite quickly.  If I was investigating I would be going to the schools in the area ... a junior high and high school are accross the street from the park where this dog was killed.  There I'm sure they will find the kids who did it.

Whoever is responsible had some very big problems and they need help.  Who would do something like this?  We have some future Ted Bundy's in my hometown.:(

Grunherz, why did you forget to fill in the message body and reply with your signature template only? ;)

Damn, almost the same thing happened in my yard 20 years ago... Some "teens" killed a spaniel puppy in front of a 10-years old girl that walked it... Don't know how they were punished, but Soviet school system had some ways to make them learn they were... hmmm... wrong. Something like putting them in front of a whole school and explaining other kids what they have done. Out of Pioneer organisation. Letter to their parents work and Party organisation. All that commie ways of dealing with such accidents were sometimes very effective.

Hehe, yeah Grun, you should just write "[fill blank] should be killed" in your sig and reply to every thread with a .

As for these little tardlets, they just deserve the beating of their lives, and then jailtime. Repeat first step.

every day i take a crowded bus across town because parking is too difficult.

when the bus pulls up to the crowded stop, some people wait in line to pay their fare and board legally.

others wait until someone is exiting thru the back and prop open the door and push their way on - thus sneaking ahead of the people who are following the law and grabbing the last few empty seats and getting out of paying their fare.

it's worth mentioning i guess that there is a giant sign in 3 languages on the back door saying it is illegal as well as signs in the bus and an audio recorded message that playes every few minutes.

i dont follow every law on the books, but i always wait in line and pay my fare because not following this law would affect and displace someone else and laws like that are important - it isnt arbitrary like so many laws-  it also degrades the quality of the busline because there's just that much less revenue. besides it is inefficient to have anarchy as the system to handle boarding.

so what?

**
the moral of the story is that those who cheat save a dollar and get the prime seats with no consequence - those who follow the law lose a dollar and have to stand with no reward.
**

in otherwords, those kids did an unconscionable thing but it doesnt surprise me in the least

....big transgressions like theirs or little ones like the amazinhunks on the bus are all just indicative of our nature under the sacharrine front we show the world.

whether its bussing or cheating on your taxes or stealing or cutting a guy off in traffic it all shows that people are self obsessed and don't think about the pain or inconvenience of others.

all you can do is learn how to fight like hell and try to make it through to the bell.  ;)

Two times in my adult life I have cried like a baby, one was when my dog had to be put to sleep. That dog was my friend for 17 years (black lab) and I ran out of that vet office sobbing, the only thing close was when I found out my dad had died, (recently). :(

If  someone had hurt my dog, in my view they would have had to kill me to stop me from trying to save her!  Pets really do become part of the family and those little punks should get at least life in jail. :(

Teenagers where doing sick toejam like that 2000 years ago and they will be doing it 2000 years from now. The solution that worked 2000 years ago was to beat the toejam out of them for it. It will take us another 2000 years to relearn that the way we are going.
Probably one sociopath and 2 cronies.
I hope the 10 year old grows up big and mean enought to take that dog out of thier hides one day..

I don't want to comment on these "people".  My anger will control what I say and anger should not be used to to judge people.

Oh, hell.

They're bastards that need to have the crap kicked out of them, at least that's how I feel.

A year or two ago a few teens came across a 5-6 year old girl playing in her front yard with the kittens that her family cat had had 6 weeks ago.  These wastes of skin took the kittens from her and were throwing them against the wall of her house and against the trunk of a tree in the yard while she desparately tried to protect the kittens, yelling and crying at the teens to "Stop killing my kitties!"

The cops got the perps, but I don't recall what the penalty was.

I can't imagine doing something like that to a child.  Can you imagine being the father of the 10 year old boy in loser's story or the 5-6 year old girl in my story?  I'd be absolutely livid and God help them if I got my hands on them.

Makes me sick. I'd hunt the f*#&ers down with some other pet owning friends and god knows, I'd dream up something more inventive and instructive than a beating. It may sound slightly wierd, but I sometimes daydream about catching some lowlife in the act and dispensing a little civilian justice.

The world needs more vigilantes, people would think twice about doing this kinda sh*t if they suspected the guy across the street would walk over and beat the living crap outta them.

You can't kill 'em. A dog's life.. or any animal's life is never going to equate to a human life.

Although I do sympathize with the spirit.

This is a case of "theft". They have stolen many years of fun, learning and pleasure from the kid who owned the dog. (Yeah, you can learn a lot from dogs if you pay attention when they are teaching you.)

So, I'd steal some years from the killers. Time in the slammer for sure.

Eeww... I have a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Just not something I can understand someone doing to anyone or anything.

Toad, that sounds appropriate. Let's lock 'em up for a few. Though with the way things are so over-crowded now, who knows what'll happen. Grrr....

This is exactly how nazi germany started.

on a more serious side...
I think 10 yrs in a good 'ol fashion prison dungeon is a fitting punishment. There they can ponder the consequences of their actions.

[edit]
I dont own a dog, and I never have. Heck, come to think about it, the only pet I've ever had was a canary bird who escaped after 3 weeks (and probably met a gruesome fate, considering the winters here in Sweden). So I guess I cant really understand exactly how crushed that little kid must feel right now.

BUT
It is the complete lack of empathy from the offenders that scare me. You have to be a seriously disturbed person if you can walk up to a little kid, steal his dog, and torture the poor animal to death before that kids eyes. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I feel Grunherz is on the right track here. We really dont want people like that roaming our neighbourhoods do we?

Stuff like this makes me sick... much the same as everyone else who has posted here... yes I own a dog, a beautiful lab, but even if I didnt, the impression left on the child walking the dog would still be enough to influence me to take violent action to discipline the children responsible.  Had it been my daughter/son (dont have one... yet) I think I would have gotten out a shotgun and took off running down the street.  These three children, or in the event it was a single child with 2 followers, are directly to blame - call them psychopaths if you like, and the parents are indirectly to blame.  Im willing to bet that the father spends his days watching NASCAR and drinking Coors Light in his "wife beater" T shirt while the mother cleans inbetween beatings.  The point was made that children have been doing sick toejam for 2000 years, and will continue to do so - but when I was a kid I never did ANYTHING even REMOTELY approaching this kind of psychotic behavior - of course everyone had that one kid in the group that would put M80's into fish's mouths, but Jesus.. hanging a fediddleing dog infront of it's child owner?  Sorry to say that the kids will probably not get anything more than a fine and probation, but I would get some sort of morbid satisfaction out of watching the 10 year old string the 3 kids up on the same damned piece of playground equiptment the dog was hanged from.

Deeply disturbing?  How about when you find out it was all a LIE!

http://www2.alberta.com/news/fs.cfm?source_id=CP&id=1062639

EDMONTON (CP) - A 10-year-old boy who had claimed a group of teenagers hanged his
dog at a playground recanted the story Monday. RCMP in St. Albert, a bedroom community
north of Edmonton, issued a news release saying the dog "in fact died as a result of
accidentally falling from the play structure while the leash was still on."

I feel sorry for the kid.  He watched his dog die as it hung there.  Having to lie about it is another issue.  He must have felt terrible and was scared to tell the truth.

I think the less Vigilante justice the better, with extreme penalties for those who decide to take the law into their own hands. Vigilanties were criminals when they were wearing white hoods next to the lynchin' tree, and they are criminials today even if they do happen to get the "right" people.

Agree 100%, not only does he have to live with the dog on his conscience, but now has to live with lying about it.  Poor kid.

One thing I've reminded my kids over and over again, by telling the truthhas far less consequences than not telling the truth.

just heard that the kid made up the story...that really blows.

however stuff like this does happen, and sharing our thoughts on situations like this (even ones that become hypothetical) shows a concensus on what we view as "justice."

oh well, i was going to post more....but to talk about imaginary offenders seems rather....akward.

btw i had no intention of misleading the AH community when i started this post.. i was just going on the information i read in papers, heard on the radio etc...

I wanted to wait a few days before replying to this thread.  I suspected the boy might be lying, but felt it would be bad form to say as much until the police figured a few things out.

What really struck me is how many people were so willing to sit back and accept it as truth... and the reactions themselves.  Read through this thread and ask yourself how it is possible to imprison the wrong person.

So much time is spent focussing rage and hate that common sense often takes a back seat.  Sometimes its important to remember what it was like when you were a kid... how big the issues seemed... what you'd do to get out of trouble.  Use that as a filter in situations like this.

WTF?  So it ends up being a freak accident and the kid lies... great.

Even so, there are terrible owners of pets who do horrible things many times worse than this.  Barry Alverez' son, (head coach of the University of Wisconsin Madison football team), microwaved a parrot!  Human or animal, nothing deserves that sort of torture.
