Hello my dear gamers I come on a mission of great importance, my younger brother has been deleting certain unnamed files/programs on my computer, and when I attempt to run AA(thats when I click on the aces high icon on desktop) I recieve two messages as follows:
the ACESHIGH.EXE file is
linked to missing export DSOUND.DLL:11.
second message as follows:
C:\Program Files\HTC\ACESHI~1\aceshigh.exe
A device attached to the system is not functioning
I am running a compaq computer with win 98. I have no idea what the dang computer is trying to tell me. ANY help is appreciated I know some of you out there know computer'es. I have the compaq recovery disks is the file on them. sincerly yours Poppysead.

It's telling you it either can't find a functioning sound card, or a direct sound is not working for some reason.
Go to microsoft and grab DX 8.1. http://www.microsoft.com/directx/
If you don't have sound, try getting your sound drivers and installing those again. Look for updated versions.
