Warning: This is not a troll...that is left up to Laz(x) and his ilk...this is just an expresion (a slightly drunk version) of my thoughts and feelings. If you are offended/feel ill/get dizzy/have abdominal pains...stop reading and consult a doctor/beer/mother/pacifier as required.
Over the past month I have noticed that the numbers in the MA (main arena) have been dropping. This is surpising to me especially after the numbers exploded in the last four to six months. I wish I could say that is because everyone has been moving over to the CT (combat theatre)...btw it isn't.
Anyway, I'm living up to my name (Drunky) but I thought I would point this out along with a few of my thoughts.
I have to wonder though...I've gotten pretty fed up with the community here (not all, mind you, but with a large majority) with the attitudes, arrogances and just petty mindedness. This is not the AH that I loved, joined and couldn't stay away from even for one day.
I knew that since AW went down we would see an influx of people...not saying that the AW people are responsible. Perhaps this community wasn't ready for a group to come in and compare AH to an already established flight sim. Maybe...maybe not...but I did notice that people (on both sides) did not react well. Notwithstanding.
I'm tired of...I'm bored with....I'm fed up...with disorganization and the chaos that ensues.
I used to relish the fact the my squad (look it up if you care...I'm not name dropping, it's not the point) used to take hour and a half missions with lancs to blow the sh*t out of someone's HQ just to make a difference in the war (at least for a night). We would thread our way between bases just to make it there...and now, it just don't mean sh*t. It's not worth it. Seriously...I looked forward to flying in formation (whether at 20k and at 500 ft) and following our XO as closely as possible in formation because I knew that it made an impact on the game/night/war.
There was a time when we would mention (we were Rooks then) that our squad was OTW to a base (it was rightly assumed we were bombers) that people would respond with not only fighter support but also with mutliple goons. That type of response has not happened for over a year now.
Those who know me (not many do actually) will know that I really don't care what we are doing as long as we are organized. And with the exception of a few individuals who command respect when they post missions...well there has not been much of that. Ripsnort..I have never missed a mission of yours while I was online.
This being said....I would have to say that this is my goodbye. I will linger probably another month (it's hard to let go) but I have not enjoyed myself as I have in the past. It would seem that Laz(x) has won. Whatever AH might have been, has resolved (degenerated) into a perpetual fighter conflict (furball).
Anyway...I will say again...This is not a troll...If I offend you then DO NOT RESPOND...these are only my parting thoughts.

Yes, it does seem very tilted towards the furball right now. I have not been on as much lately because of that.
I did have a very enjoyable fight with Urchin and another Fw190 in the CT tonight and quite an enjoyable Mossie flight in the MA on Friday, but those things are rarer and rarer.
I would recommend waiting until the next version is released. Hopefully then things will swing back towards a middle ground and away from Laz' furball playground that the MA is now.
-
Have you tried the CT?
It's definitely got a lot to offer in terms of a more close knit, friendly community atmosphere. I'm sure there are flyers there who would be willing to organize. It can be a refreshing break from the MA perennial furball.
Hope you stick around, Drunky.

Geeze... hate to break into this drunken sob fest and I'm (almost) sorry that you can't get your jollies off mikrunning fields in poorly modeled fluffs QUITE as easily but....
Who won? laz (the vapid lazzer guy with the cartoon smiley balloon heads) or laz(x) who I never heard of or...
The real lazs!
Go ahead... beat up your liver and have a good cry on me. Why hang around for a month? Wasted time that you could be spending drinking. Maybe you are hoping that HTC will bring back the ability to "win the war" with ridiculous strat that can be done by a drunk with a mouse and the worst connect imaginable?

hiya drunk.....
I've noticed that 2.....alot of furballin goin on.....I was knight and not alot of org. goin on....but good numbers for that team....squad went rooks to see and try 2 even out the teams...rooks usually have less numbers....but org. is even worse then knights....tried 2 get team to orgnize...but the wasn't 2 fruitful...always people fightin for that damn stupid middle island....with the influx of new people like you said...give em time to learn the maneuvers and get rid of the fast fight(furballin)mentality....they will soon discover other planes need other tactics....alot come from AW where I was....so i know most of em...some I don't wanna know :)....we didn.t have mission planners like AH does...so give it time...or squad is startin to make missions now...took some time(alot of players needed help).
be patient my man...smoke some weed or something.
Here's an ex: me and a squaddie made a plan to see if rooks would help.....we upped lancasters but in a round-a-bout fashion(meaning the 1st lanc would hit...we'd call out base XX all FH dead VH dead...wait 5 min....of course bish didn't wait to re-supply....so other squaddie came in and called out all FH dead again wait 5 minutes....still no help...we did that 3 times....still no help....rooks where 2 busy with middle island....bish took whole south....) i tried in a couple of diff. approaches with rooks.....not workin good....
just an observation...no whining please

Wow, I never saw that coming lazs.
Waiting for 1.09 is getting tougher by the day, I log in and log out just so I can remember the sequence.
The unfortunate or fortunate, depending on what you look for in a game, thing here Drunky is that people like our resident voice of reason and calm reflection on how Aces High should be played are paying the bills at HTC.
The CT offered an alternative but the clamorers for historical matchups and more reality, including me, have stayed away in droves until it was recently switched to a more MA style of play.
I think HTC would survive the loss if every strat player cancelled their account this day and we would not be missed and they could stop wasting the resources they are putting into the CT arena, move all the fields within 1 mile of one another and all go out and buy a Rolls and some beer and rake in the bucks.
Drunky, if you need a diversion till 1.09 gets here go out and buy IL2 and jump into Hyperlobby.
The fields are a couple miles apart and there are never 200 guys in the same grid so lazs need not apply but it plays solid and is great for coordinated low level attacks and for super dogfighters willing to spend a few minutes climbing.
-
well i can say iv seen this comeing as i feel most the way you do
I am aslo waiting for 1.9 to show up . I also have not been on much because of the feeling that peaple have Quit working togeather to make it fun & enteresting for me also . I shur miss the old days when we did. Future for me here is also uncertin
the days when you could not wait to get in and fly is not here anymore ..tho i love the TOD i seem to have more fun there then in the main these days .
sunchaser ill see ya in IL-2 ( just need to meet up there sometime soon )
-
catering to the laz types definately keeps me (and my money) away.
-
TOD and Squad Night are all I play for now, too.
It's impossible to do anything strategic without the backing of a large squad now. So outside of Squad night, and TOD, there's really no sense in logging on for me either.
-
The Main Arena is wearing thin on the squad I'm on.
(That and the porked goons re-upping what a squadron of B-17s have dropped. That's just an utter slap-in-the-face to anyone who bothers to fly a buff to altitude, 20 minutes to target and bomb.)
We had another guy quit in disgust last night. He was weary of the endless furballing as you guys mention and canned his account. While I'm annoyed with the evolution of the Main Arena, I'm still here. I'm more interested in seeing how they will improve the situation rather than stomping out in disgust. Quiting, gentleman, is too easy. :)
I decided last night to drop out of the squad I am in (416th RCAF). Its a squad of 6 and 3 had moved on to IL-2. The rest were seldom on at the time I flew (late Eastern US time). I enjoy flying with the guys (hilarious bunch), but why belong to a group that's not on when you are 99% of the time?
So, I'm looking for a new squad to join. One that loves buffs :)
I played in the CT last night, had a good time. Main Arena lag was pretty intense for me, so I joined Hazed on some suicide Luftwaffle raids instead :)
-
for the record ...
I didn't quit... just stopped paying :)
when/if things improve I'll start paying again.

I've seen your style of play, and would love to get you into our squad. Now I'm hardly the recruitment officer. Actually, I'm only a first Lt.
You may want to consider the 2nd Marine Air Wing. We are 1 of 3 Squads that make up MAW. 1st MAW is Air superiority, CAP, escort. Second MAW is Bombers and Goons. And we just added 3rd MAW which I believe is JABO.
We participate actively in TOD, and our squad Nights are Tuesday begginning at 9pm EST and running until the wee hours, and Saturday, 10pm EST. We are quite are large group, 50+ pilot now, I think. I know your an experienced bomber pilot, and as long as you meet the age requirement, I'm Sure Prop, (2nd MAW CO) would love to get you in. Here's the webpage:

I am not a fan of the MA at all. I love the CT, but I don't even fly there that often. I am short of time to play at all. When I do find a little time, I am too rusty to live long in the MA environment and the CT is usually empty. So, I end up in HtH or just playing around offline.
Despite my lack of time and inability to enjoy the paid arenas, I keep paying. It kind of makes up for all those months when I played HtH every night, but I couldn't afford the $30 per month. I found the $15 per month affordable even for me as a poor starving college student.
I find this a reasonable investment to continue development of my absolute favorite flight sim/game. I want to see a full planeset and continued expansion in the land and sea warfare areas until Aces High becomes "the mother of all sims". I am willing to keep contributing my funds as long as I can afford it and HTC frequently releases new revisions with significant improvements.
Is there anyone else like me that doesn't play in the MA or CT that much but still pay? Declining numbers may not mean a decline in paid accounts, it may just mean a decline in the number of people logged in at any one time. I hope HTC continues to increase their revenues since that will ensure they will continue improving Aces High. I would hate for HTC to end up following in the footsteps of those other online sims that are dead or dying.

LePaul,
Our group has some good buff drivers, and we've flown in the same general area's as you have on several occasions. If you're looking for a group to wing up with and do some combined runs, let me know. We were the 416 Lynx in AW, but changed to 441 Silver Fox here out of respect of your old squad having been here prior to us. We're planning to fly in both the MA and CT as like yourself, we're finding the MA not suitable for our type of missions.

streak,
I suspect that there are more than a few people who keep their accounts open but fly very little.
I flew less than 15 hours last tour in the MA....less than 1/2 hour a day. Just not much appeal there anymore for me.
I know my CO said he was burnt out on AH......guess I am getting that way too. Been doing this for 3 years now, lotsa stuff has changed, some good, some bad.
If the numbers are in fact dropping, it is in no way the "L" boy's fault. Times change, people change. Players come and go in any game. IL-2 holds a strong appeal for me after hearing from some of squaddies. Maybe I'll give it a look, but I don't see myself quitting AH anytime soon.
-
I was leaning towards the same view as you Drunky... thinking that the MA was breaking down and getting a little depressed about it. Once that happens... everything is amplified. Things that kinda annoyed you earlier really grate on you during this time. Eventually objectivity is a thing of the past and bitter resentment kicks in.
Then I began to notice that by changing my mentality in the arena I could modulate my own fun. Once I started doing that, the objectivity kicked back in and I noticed things beyond those that simply grated on me before.
I chose to fly alone under an alias. The point was simply to relax while flying and not worry about anything beyond my view on the screen. Mostly I defended fields from incoming attacks. I tried to avoid Furballs most of the time... with the occasional reminder flight into one to point out why its better to avoid them. I still managed to bump my k/t higher than its ever been before by flying the way I liked to fly... and avoiding furballs.
I also found that even the new players were willing to play the strat game... they just weren't very good at it... YET. I could see them developing as players and found that they were actually more willing to listen to strat suggestions. It was quite refreshing.
Basically, the MA is changing. It will continue to eb and flow as a result of the influx of people and the learning curve involved. Its a matter of deciding whether you want to ride out the waves or not. That's totally your decision.
Just be carefull that the funk isn't skewing perspective. It can happen... I know it for a fact.

>(That and the porked goons re-upping what a squadron of B-
>17s have dropped.
I think you've stumbled into the truth there LePaul. I my mind the implementation of that feature has had a bad effect on the gameplay.
I understand the idea behind it, but it needs further refinement. I think bases, etc.. shouldn't repair at all without goon or train resupply, and then only at the old rate they used to. Actually, it should take 3 or 4 goons to bring a base back up to 100% in increment.
Strat efforts have been made silly and pointless. So everyone just furballs without a sense of purpose.
(shrug) Furballing is fun, but sometimes I like a bit of variety.

"for the record ...

Have you guys been playing in the same 400+ arena I have? Unless you're looking very short term (ie night to night), that's a rather odd definition of decline.

"Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."

I'm curious, does the HTC staff even read this threads? I hope they do and consider what's being discussed here. I found AH just a couple months ago and love this game, I'm sad to see dedicated players leave like this.
-
*yawn*
Ok ok. Calm down. :) The sky is NOT falling.
This always happens towards the end of a developement cycle. People get burnt out from playing 23 hours per day, and they want too see something new.
When 1.09 comes out, the numbers will soar.
-
Same thing always happens just before the release of a new version.

lol vermillion, you posted that while I was typing.

Dont sweat it SunKing, Im still here :)
AcesHigh has changed a whole bunch since BETA tour 1 thats fer sure.
Even back in the early days large gobs of so called "Vets" would get pissed off about something and go relieve themselves in someone elses sandbox.
Also, its seriously time for another update (ie new rides) and some new terrains (oh hell YA, needed badly).
I have always believed that these types of online games are strictly what the user him/herself brings online, not what ANYONE else brings. In other words, if you like sims, fly like its a sim and be happy.

The MA doesn't seem to have much of a numbers decline over the past month. Looks to be the exact opposite to me. Heck it was just a week or so ago that there were several threads here on the player base increasing too quickly and it being TOO crowded in the MA.
There may indeed be things folks want changed but there certainly doesn't seem to be a numbers decline over the last month. Not that I've noticed anyway.

I almost never fly in the MA anymore. Nothing wrong with the MA, but too much of anything like that gets boring. I don't think too many of my squaddies fly much in the MA either. But we are still happy with the Aces High product, because of things like TOD and the Combat Theater. I do 90% of my flying in those arenas, and I have a blast. I fly about 1/4 the time that I used to, and have 4 times the fun. So I might be part of "decreased numbers" in the MA but I am still a quite satisfied customer.
-
We need bigger maps! Give us bigger maps and the numbers will bounce right back.
curly
-
Right now there's about 220 players in MA and of those players I've known 5 since beta. In CT there was 18 players with also 5 I recognized from times of Beta.
Sometimes I wonder did all old players change their names or where did they go?
-
An interesting repost...this is an ongoing thread. Since I fly primarily as a "lone ranger"...usually low to medium alt...almost invariably directly to "the sound of the guns" I can tell you the value of a squad or wingie is up dramatically vs even 6 months ago. Truthfully I feel the MA is a much more "realistic" enviornment now than it's ever been. A lot of suffering and sacrifice for little or no gain. Real war is a meat grinder with little return....not to long ago someone posted a diary entry from a real tiffie pilot. It concerned a single 10 plane mission jaboing an enemy airfield. The same field they'd hit a couple weeks before...and the same one they'd hit again a couple weeks later.
10 planes went in on a single hit and run strike...1 plane came out. Personally I miss the old days, with 300 folks or more up most of the time the MA has a totally different feel to it. Truthfully I think the better squads like the AK's 412th 13th TAS etc have a decided edge due to the combination of quality and quanity. I flew with a good squad for years any finally gave it up when I came here...but really hadn't been able to participate for over a year (run my own business + special needs child) do to schedule stuff. Over last few months I've reached a point where I really feel a squad/wingie is a real benifit in here.
Hereing the "burn out" from the diehard squaddies is a new thread for me though....guess I'll migrate to the CA for a bit :)

OH, Really YEAGER...
For me AH hasn't changed since Beta, I still haven't landed a sortie.
I'm not allowed to play in the sandbox ( cats kept covering me up)
UPDATE ( slobber) UPDATE (slobber)
Terrains? Terrains? Did you say Terrains?
AH, is still Number 1 in my book.
But what do I know, I'm handed my meds 3 times a day, given a big green crayon/paper and TOLD to draw perwty stuff!

Curly, for me, a farther distance between fields would only be more irritating. If I have to fly longer trying to capture a field only to be undone by a single Insta-Goon.
I also think another of the drags on morale is getting stuck on a single map. That agian is a result of the Jesus-Goon where all damage, injury, and destruction at a field is miracalously healed by a single touch of its devine wing. It makes it very hard to gain ground. The area gets bogged down into trench warefare and you end up stuck on the Mindinaeo map for a fekin month.
I do enjoy furballing on occation and I'm far from being fed up with AH. But the resuply system is in my opinion why many don't feel like even trying strat. That tends to shift the center of gravity towards just mindless furballing at 2k.

I dont notice any drop in numbers.
But the game will be played as the design allows and the temperment of the majority of players demands..
how else could it be?
-
i like the bigger map idea. the fields dont have to be farther apart...just bigger fronts and no places to get into 3 country furballs over 1 base. more options on where to go IMO would be a huge advance in game play for strat stuff. i would also like to see the resupply stuff get done with, but i know thats here to stay.

Well, if AH was Survivor then I bet Lasz1 (or Lasz2 or Lasz...whatever he's going by now) would be the first off the island ;)
Lasz(x)...you are my shining example.
[Yoda voice] "The force is strong with this one....the dark side attracted to he is, yes???"
Lasz(x) you have made and continue to make my argument about the delinquencies in the AH community. You speak when you are not spoken to...you speak where you are neither welcomed nor wanted...you speak about things you are ignorant. Your arguments are simplistic, self-absorbed, petty, repetitive, childish, argumentative and non-productive. You troll for repsonses to validate your own existence. You are scum, worthless and probably deserve prison time. Narcissistic, self-absorbed and probably have a small peepee. You fit the profile for an abused child with little self-esteem. A wallflower. You cower at your own shadow. Do you hurt yourself on purpose?...cut yourself?...torture your own genitals?...or perhaps hurt innocent animals to make yourself feel better?
Reality Check...just because you are a better than average pilot in a flight sim does not make you a better than average person in the real world. You poor bastard...even though you might be better here...hello, you still suck...hahahaha.
Pop Psychology Time:
A) Lasz(x) is fourteen pretending to be a man (daddy, can I play on the computer now), B) he doesn't have any friends, lacks any social skills, is ugly, smells funny and his mother dresses him funny, C) he's simply a bitter, small, petty person, D) an angry gay person who is obsessed with "anal-retentive, pink fluffing sky accountants" who don't let him play his game the way he demands it *snap, snap..you go girl* or E) all of the above.
Either way...AH (and even the world) would be better off without Lasz(x) and his piss poor, dour, iresome, juvenile, passive-agressive, cry for help attitude. Is he king dweeb or just a dweeb king...will we ever know?
Poor Lasz(x)...I knew him not...well more than I really wanted to...
And the Award for the Most Voted off the Island goes to.... Lasz(x)
you crazy bastard....you still suck

You had a good thread going until you stooped to the bash-laz routine. It'll only provoke him to try to one up your one-liners and the point of the thread is lost.

I wont stand up for lazs because he doesnt need it.
One thing though, he will gun your brains out if you give him even the slightest opportunity. For that reason alone, Im glad he makes this place his feeding grounds. He keeps me skeered and I appreciate that.

i dont know why everybody has all this hostility agains lazs. he just voices his opinions like everyone else. it may not be what you want to hear but we have no right to flame him for what he thinks. we all have our own little vision on how we would like to see the game. it is always looked at by HTC. and eventually we get a compramize between what everybody wants. it may not be EXACTLY how ya want it, but there is always a way to work around what you dont like.

Don't forget too that there are many of us who are less vocal, but who agree with him more than with his detractors.
I would never want to get rid of the strat game completely, but if given a choice between LePaul's vision of what AH should be, and lazs', I'd go for lazs'.
This isn't meant to diss you, LePaul -- your opinions are no less valid than mine -- just to say that while Paul Tibbets and Enola Gay may have had a bigger impact on history, I'd still much rather be Don Gentile in Shangri-La.

Gee drunky... give your liver a break guy or it will be bigger than that chip on your shoulder. I do belive that you have managed to get in the running for the "who can use the word lazs the most in one post" award tho.
On another note.... I killed drunky several times in a row a while back. He was flying a B17 from one close field to another in an attempt to bomb the later. he was at mid alt and all by himself and heading right through the furball that was between those two fields. He was attempting to stop the fight with a lone suicide bomber and ruin the fun of dozens of guys. if that is the only thing that is fun for him then he doesn't deserve to have fun.

I still don't know on what the subject of this thread is based on. As I tried to subtly mention, and others spelled out more clearly, numbers have increased so rapidly and significantly that it is the single greatest factor in the CT's newfound popularity.
-
Oh I think I agree with you Fatty.
While I think the resuply system has made strat pointless, I haven't really noticed any statistically signifigant decrease in player numbers. At least not at the hours I fly.

Laz often makes extremely valid observations and other times he doesn't. In fact, he reminds me of just about everyone that posts on the BBS in that respect. :)
Many times his presentation harms his case a bit but nonetheless I regard him as a knowledgeable observer of the online ACM game situation. In short, I don't always agree with him, but I always consider what he says.
As for numbers... my non-scientific observation is that the CT has gained about 2% with the latest change. It used to run in the 7-8% range of the MA at the times I usually fly now it's closer to 10%. So, it's up a bit. If the MA dropped off much at all, it's probably just this 2% that are giving the CT a shot now. In other words... negligible change in the MA, up a bit in the CT. Good thing, overall... everyone should have options to make their gameplay more satisfying.
Just my .02.

I haven't logged on in two weeks, but it has nothing to do with the game- I simply have upped my workload exponentially and don't have the minutes to string together to make it worthwhile. I cruise the boards inbetween tasks, but that is as close to the game as I can get at the moment.
It's usually during these long bouts of endless long nights I begin to reconsider my subscription. $15 sure is better than $30 in situations like this...
