I have a PIII 800 256mb pc2100 and an Aopen mobo with hercules gforce2mx200, I have never overclocked before and would like some advice and possibly a how to.

A word of caution too, if you can't afford to replace parts if you push too far DON'T do it. I overclock everything i can but if it burns out I have spare parts to replace them. It's fun to tinker :)

The best way to go about it, is to make sure you have a heat monitor with an automatic shut off switch. Go, set it at a good temp, and then test each setting gradualy raising it by never more than 5mhz at a time. Run it pretty much as hard at you can for at least 24 hours. Monitor the temp and if the temp stays at safe levels, up it again after each test untill the temps get risky. Don't do it unless you have an automatic safety switch on your temp monitor though. This switch will ensure that you do not damage the proccessor, thus avoiding that unexpected chance to upgrade beyond what you were going to overclock to. One thing though.. that switch wont save your bellybutton if you do somthing stupid and try to overclock way too much in 1 step. If the heat rises too quickly the rapid expansion will crack that chip like hot tea in frosted glass before the switch can flip.
