Title: One suprising result from the CT
Post by: Killjoy2 on February 08, 2002, 01:14:22 PM
Just an observation here.

I fly Allied in the CT, (but I first check to see make sure the sides are even).

Between WB and AH main arenas I have just gotten used to spits fighting spits, p38's fighting Jugs etc.  I guess I just expected the same ol, same ol in the CT in terms of SA and tactics.

Wrong.

Fighting against all Axis is a completely different SA.  While the pilots are generally more experienced, the all Axis setup forces me into a completely different survival strategy.  Team's of 109's and 190's is are whole new challenge.

I hope the CT makes it because this is the immersion factor I've been missing and not knowing it.  The advancements in visuals, effects and strat in the Main has been so great that I've forgotten the primary motivation for my interest in flight sims.

Allied vs Axis.  I like exploring the dynamics of this matchup in a free flowing strategy.  This could get really fun.  I'm only afraid that it will take off and I'll be in the CT 8 hours a day like I used to when I began WB's.

Anyone else?

"Anyone else?"

Same here.  My favorite was the Stalingrad terrain and one of my favorite fights ever was in there; a three on one  between two 190's and a 109 vs. me in a Yak-9T.   Not to mention driving an IL2 against German armour.

CT is falsely labelled a cult club or elitist arena.  The CT is where you can go to try and simulate WWII era aircombat and not simply aircombat using simulated WWII era aircraft.

This is one of the truly cool features of the CT.  Learning the tactics necessary to defeat the enemy using completely different planesets with totally different strengths/weaknesses is quite a challenge.

No more picking the plane best suited for the job... time to make due with what's available.

I agree, it's the Axis vs. Allied that makes the CT work.  Now if we can just drop a few of the false-realism difficulty settings that make fighting in there a chore, it will work great and we'll get the numbers.  IMO.

Aside from a couple of things we need like smaller maps and a few other odds and ends, it works rather well. :)  I'm having fun there most of the time, and when I don't the CT team seems to listen to the feedback and make some changes.   to the CT team.

Tip, slow the rebuild time on citys and depots. Expend your ordinance and the stuff is popping back up before you turn for home.

Example: A squaddie and I were hitting a depot 10-15 miles from our launch field. We were using P-38s with full loadouts of bombs and rockets. We could not keep the structures down long enough to capture it, even uncontested. We never saw a resupply convoy either. After 5 sorties apeice, we gave up.

Another item would be to decrease the fuel multiplyer. In other words, we need to be able to go a little farther with the selected fuel.

In spite of some minor drawbacks, the CT is my favorite place to be.:D

we want the rebuild time really short to stop milkrunners. It should take some work to get a field capture or disable dar etc.......

Theres so much milkrunning that takes place 10 sectors away from the fight with 1 guy killin a twn and either landing at town or augering then goonin it.

Short rebuild times stop this.

I could argue to disable field capture but I already have.

The false realism is the main reasons I go to the CT. The Axis vs Allies planeset is secondary but not unimportent.

CT is taking off on weekends primetime averaging 50 players.  If word of mouth travels maybe we can get that to 100.

Weave,

Actually that's not unique to CT. You'll find a similar respaen time in MA as well wrt Depots. They are a real trick to capture with just a pair of people as a result of this. That's probalby not a bad thing though since they do speed up recovery times of the nearby fields they service. Pretty important little asset if that area is contested.

Its also good to see players that care if they rtb or not, wing tactics, enough space to have a decent fight ect.

CT is great. Its WW2 planes in WW2. Cant get any better than that. Thumbs up.

The CT has kept me from canceling my subs.

Immersion is very good, and allied vs axis gives us a feel for the real thing.

MUCH better then the MA.

Keep up the good work CT CM team :)
