So far, I've found that the X will go anywhere my Bronco could go, plus it's not nearly as wide and on washboard, the back doesn't try to become the front. That short wheel base will reach up and bite you on the bellybutton if you're not paying attention. But if you have a Bronco, you already know this. :)

Don't get me wrong... I really liked the Bronco, but I'm equally fond of the X.

Title: Why broncos are the best
Post by: Gadfly on February 09, 2002, 01:06:35 PM
That orange bronco had 240,000 miles on it when I sold it, and it still ran great on the original motor.

The red and white one, currently has 107,000 miles on it and looks, runs and drives like brand new.

I got a TOTAL of over 400,000 miles out of the pair of Bronco II's and they are crap compared to the big ones.

lol :)

i had an 88 jeep cherokee laredo for a few years when i moved  to the mountains in tahoe.

it got through just about everything except one night when almost 6 feet fell in 24hrs up at 7,500 feet where i lived.

it slid as i backed out and since the ground was covered i didnt see the ditch. it sat there at 45degrees facing skyward for 2 days until a plow guy in a catapiller dragged me out with a chain - nice guy

that car was great but the engine leaked and kept blowing out waterpumps. too big and awkward for the city anyway, i had to sell it.

I own a Toyota Tundra now.  This is a great truck.  I'll have this one for a decade or two.

Sandman that looks like an Isuzu Rodeo :)

I gots me an Isuzu Bighorn, so far I seen that mongrel labeled as a Holden Monterey, Honda Horizon, and Chevy (no name on it just the Chevy badge).

Nice wagons... good for hunting hatchbacks on the motorway.

Was my dune machine for 10 years .

Here it is stuck ( high centered ) on the last hill out ( razor back ) of the Silver Lake Sand Dunes at Mears , Michigan . Stock 400 ci small block with headers and big air filter .

The early bronco's with a 351 in them are damn nice . Cost way to much now though :)

Ford builds a nice product IMO . I have been driving my 86 Ranger to work for 15 years now without much problems .

AKDejaVu : That a 71 or 70 ?

Sandman, I have a yellow XTerra also.  And I used to have an '89 Bronco with a 351 in it.

Have to say after 4 trips camping, I am very happy with my Xterra.  I got the stick shift, V-6 and locking rear differential.  It goes where ever I want it to and does it well.

I have a former military 76 Chev 5/4 ton pickup. Converted it from full time 4X4 to Part time.
I use it in Construction work and Snow plowing and its never let me down. Its the best truck I've ever owned.

I *was* a Ford customer for many years. Not anymore.  Don't get me wrong, I've owned no fewer than 4 new Ford vehicles, 3 pick up trucks and 1 Explorer.

But...the 1999 Explorer had no fewer than 6 recalls ("Ford- Quality is Number 1"  Remember those commercials?) and 2 of them were life threatening.

No more Fords for me.  I'm going to replace my 1991 Ford F150 some day (300 ci Straight-6, Auto, best damn engine Ford ever built) and I will probably replace it with a Chevy for the first time since I've driven on roads.

Ford just lost a customer with their "excellent quality control"

Yeah ford pretty much sucks nowadays.. But my 79 bronco and me have been through some crap together... I think the older the truck is the more releible it is... Man I wish I can post a pic of my bronco on here... If anyone knows about 78-79 broncos.. It has a opintion package called the Free wheeling package.. it came with red yellow and orange decals running down the sides and up middle of the truck just before the removable top and just after the doors.. it came better seats and A/C front and rear sway bars. And I think thats it. Things that I have modify on it so far..

removed both sway bars
a 4 inch lift in the front and 5 inch lift in the rear
Using front spring hangers from a 78 bronco
25 gallon gas tank to 33 gallon gas tank.
Swaped out the stock 9 inch rear with a Dana 60 full floater rear end..
Spray in bedliner in the bed area only (cab area has alot of rust needs to be repaired 1st)

Things going to be done with in the next 2 months

front dana 44 is getting a 8 lug conversion to match the back..
Front dana 44 is getting 3.73 gear set change with a power trax
no slip locker.
rear diff is getting new 30 spline axle shafts to replace the older 16 spline axle shafts.. And a power trax no slip locker..
And 35" BFG M/T

hehehe this thing is already a monster I"m just making it a better one :) ohhh Btw Big Crate is the bronco nick name

I agree, their quality has slipped, actually, all American made car quality has slipped, I blame it on the Unions...I know, I was once a union worker.:D

The older rigs are far better than the garbage Detroit makes nowadays.  Poor quality was one of the driving forces for choosing a foreign car with my latest purchase, and for arguements sake, the local Ford Dealership charges $78 an hour for labor, the local BMW dealership charges $80 an hour..not much difference.  Parts for a BMW run about 15% more, but for the quality, I'll gladly pay for it when the time comes.

Ripsnort,

Take a look at the Toyota Tundra.  Its built in the USA.

It also did best on safety tests (Ford F150 did the worst, by far).

Yep, its designed in Japan, and Toyota has strict quality control measures, as well as on-site Japanese quality control engineers that came over and trained the American quality control engineers.  I have no doubt that it did best in safety tests since it was not designed on US soil.

Land rovers suck! My bronco is better than that! :) It has better running gear (stock) big bigger motor. And is just big
Land rovers would take something like 8 inch lift to fit the tires I'm getting.. But since you live in spain pepe Yall dont have broncos there so it is ok :) Ohhh and they look like a box wheels

Dunno about Spain but here in Finland we have U.S made cars everywhere... So far I've driven in '64 New Yorker, '60 Cad 2D HT, ~'70 Ambassadeur, several GM and Mopar vans and pickups, Pontiac Grand National (3,8Turbo interc.) and Firebirds, few Mustangs (from '65 to ~'80), ~70 Impala, ~'70 Torino 2D ht (428 ;)), Olds 88's and Cutlass. Friend's dad owns a car which I believe is quite rare in states too, AMC Eagle 4wd 2d with Chrysler's 360cid. Local speedshop did put a 440cid in it but torque wrecked its axles... back to small-block.
Eagle is only car I never droved myself but even my friend couldn't get the keys from his dad :D

btw my fiends are competing in a Auto-Trial, one of them use to race with Dodge Ram (open top) but those things just are not made to use in woods like we have here. Another friend drives a Volvo C303 (http://www.kolumbus.fi/staga/tgb11.jpg) with portal-axles and that car sure is a WonderWagon. Only drawback is if you drive it down from a really steep hill it mades a "three point landing" (Front bumper and front wheels). Funny as heck and carries 7 person :)

On of my friends bought a Volvo TP21 '59 from Swedish Army's auction sale few years ago, similar car like in This (http://www.solidcars.com/sugga.htm) site but that car came with 3,8liter V-8. In one of those pics you can see under a steering wheen 3 vacuum faucets made of brass for differential locks. watermelon it's not too many years ago when you had to turn locks on from wheels in some 4wd's made for civilian use :/

The Exploder is the worst piece of crap ever built by Ford.  I will let you in on a little secert: It is built on the car lines, on a car chassis.

If you want to get a Ford SUV, get the Expedition.  It is built on the truck assembly line, using truck parts and chassis.

My Nissan was designed in La Jolla, California; developed, researched and engineered in Farmington Hills, Michigan; and manufactured in Smyrna, Tennessee.

How's that for an import?
