There are a number of features in 1.08 that need to be fixed in 1.09. Here are a few. You guys know of others? I'm not talking about flight/damage models.
1. .showjoin
2. perk values need to be revisited. The Ta152 is rarely used; the F4U-4 is never used. Something is wrong. The tempest must be perked about right. I see it frequently, but it's not disruptive (like it could be.) Jeez, can you imagine encountering a swarm of the damn things? :)
3. map size needs to be revisited. Maybe the current mapsize is right, maybe not. I want someone who isn't biased about gameplay (read pyro) to look at it.
4. HTC needs a new ISP.

That join message seems to appear at the worst times, and since I was stupid enough to have a A in front of my nick that make me a easy pick for those who wanna join lol.
It shows 4 or 5 times each evening and ofcourse in the middle of a fite. I know it can be removed by the .showjoin command but when u change a plane and forget it, it happens all over.
I want that message automaticly to show in the chat bar not in front of my screen.
fu-4 and ta-152 ?
Yes lower the perk for it they are prolly the less used planes in ah, even less than the 262 and then somthing is wrong.
Map size ? I agree totally with making them bigger.

1. Right
2. Wrong
3. Right
4. Right
Well, 2 isn't completely wrong.
The Ta152 is rarely used; the F4U-4 is never used.
Check the stats for those 2 planes in recent tours (tour 25 not finished yet).
Tour 24: TA152 has 383 kills and 250 killed. F4u-4 has 586 kills and 236 killed.
F4u has got both more kills and less deaths then the TA152. It is used more and it is a better MA plane, should be more expensive then TA152. Same thing in tour 23.

map size

i think perk values are fine or should be higher. They keep rare birds rare and it seems to work.
I not one to believe because htc modelled then evenone should fly it.
Perks points are ez to get it it is my belief that with higher perks then the folks that really wanna fly umm will get out of the la7s nikis and p51s.
When 1.08 came out i had 3500 fighter perks i lost a crap load and got a good chunk back lost umm again no have near 2000 again.
On the otherhand i had a squaddie who had near 6000 and couldn't careless about flyin perks.
My thought is if you wanna fly earn the points so what if it never gets used or some folks never get to use umm.
Theres always H2H...........
-
Got enough perks my self, not afraid of losing em either, earn up for a TA152 in 2 or 3 sorties so not a big deal. Just saying the F4u 4 IS being flown more then the TA.
-
1. Dunno, noone ever joins me so I can't relate. Is this a CONSTANT problem? Seems like a easy .squelch type code fix if it effects some folks gameplay.
2. perk values need to be revisited. The Ta152 is rarely used; the F4U-4 is never used. They weren't used in WWII, but "rarely", but that's just from what people here said. I guess.
3. Map seems good, as always, no matter the numbers. Same strat, just more action i think. At least it isn't the 10 players online late night of old.
4. HTC needs to tell me how to get to the ALT route off the bat. (It's pry obvious) Pingplotter to the ALT route is 8 jumps and 30ms. Out-fuking standing.
My only squeak is BUFFS.
Come on, let me have a chance. Im impatient, and even when I set up a good run, the steam maker on the Dora goes "POOF".
Thanks in Advance.
edit- And give a update on the new release every month in development like it is important, and to make the masses look fwd to something. It is.
The "Two Weeks" syndrome old AH joke ain't funny anymore, it's sappy.
-
When you kill barracks at some baltic fields, strat still says they're still up. Dunno if they actually are.
Also, It's possible to capture fields on the above mentioned map with town buildings still up.
Map building is clearly quite complex. Looks like there are new debugging tools now, though.
I think it's critical that there be consistency across all maps.
Otherwise 1.08 is pretty damn tight.

1. Goons. They need to be fixed. One goon should not be able to re-up an entire airfield. Logistically, just based on what a goon can CARRY versus all the structures on the base. Further, goons shouldn't be able to up from a damaged base, land and repair it. Or sit on the re arm pad, re-load, dump cargo and magically re-up the base that way.
2. AI Ack. Its the running joke. Go through low and slow, you are never hit. Blaze through fast and aggressively and its 1-ping every time. It should be the reverse!
3. Crater Damage. You roll over a hole created by a 4,000 pound bomb and your going to fall and suffer damage. Same with runways, etc etc. The whole idea of driving/taxi-ing through a crater is ridiculous. A majority of these planes were made to take off from unimproved strips for a reason.
4. Super B-17. Its guns need to stop firing thru its super structure.
5. "News" and "Screenshots" should be posted here, on the Official BBS first. We frequent this BBS because we like knowing that every so often, the developers will chime in. Its a real annoyance to find some FlightSim Website has the "exclusive screenshots". Wouldn't you want your loyal following to have first glance? And the "two week" private joke thing is very very old. How about just telling us the progress you are making? Release dates come and go, that's fine. But if you are working to fix the buffs, fighters, etc, we'd sure love to know! Keep your fans in the loop, we're your best advertising.
6. Fighter icons are kinda silly. Give the poor guys who take an F4U4 a break. Leave the icon at F4, etc. I've seen La7/Nik dogfights stop in mid battle to go chase a perk plane.
7. New maps, the ones we have were wonderful when they were new a few months ago. But at our rate of rollover, almost 1 a day, the inventory of 4 goes quickly.
8. Give us the option to have the old Map icons back. I can't read any of these without massive over-zooming. The old map icon system worked fine, it wasn't broken, so why'd we break it?
9. The new sounds are great, please expand on those. Its awesome to hear planes rolling down the runway from the tower. I can't tell you how many times my girlfriend has looked out the window wondering where the low flying airplane is :)
10. Night time seems very long, I do not mind it, but I know others do. It seems excesively long and would be worth checking.
-
when you're in a private channel (white text) chat and the other person logs off, typing .radio 1 2 again will give you a "USER NOT ONLINE" message and wont allow you to change channel until you move the mouse to the chat thingy, click on the down arrow and select the channel.

It is a problem and it isn't a problem. It seems the closer your name appears in the roster list to the top, the more chance you have of someone asking to join your flight. Like air_bus, I usually get somewhere between 5-10 join messages when I fly and it's gotten to where a lot of the time, the player seems to ask when I'm in a the middle of a fight or ground attack run. Would be nice to have an option to just disable it in settings, or have it sent to the radio chat buffer.

Say for instance ammo or fuel is porked at a base, then the goon should have to fly in supplies for ammo and then fly another flight to resupply the fuel and yet another to repair another part of the damaged field. That's how it was in AW and it worked pretty good for the most part until someone found a bug that let you resupply a base by just bailing out within range of the base.

In looking over the list on the first post here I can only think that most are simply a whine or minor annoyance. The last one, about the ISP is a freaking game killer. Anytime there are more than 300 in the air in the MA it becomes unplayable with SEVERE lags, packet loss and constant warpage. Lags of over 15 seconds were observed on 2/8/2002 at 7:45 PM mtn std time. Packet losses were obvious and extreme with warps the norm and this was observed from a clean 640k DSL connection.
I don't have a problem with the "massive furballs" as you can usually plan your approach if you think ahead and avoid being swarmed. The fractured performance of the ISP is a real detriment to playing in the MA and is in need of extreme measures to fix. I don't want to say that HT expanded too quickly but that is one obvious conclusion to make given the deplorable conditions in play when the MA has a heavy player load.
Please don't bother flaming me as a non HTC supporter. I do support them and have with my subscription for quite some time. I just cannot play in the MA under these conditions and cannot see how HTC expects others to do so indefinately. As far as I am concerned V1.09 is a VERY distant second in priority to this issue.

Yeah, my nick AKcurly is right at the top too. Guys, either showjoin is broken or I don't know how to use it.
During one sortie last night, I received 3 different join requests. After the first one, I typed ".showjoin" and the message appeared "Join requests will appear in the text buffer." The next two join requests still popped open the box that obscured my vision.

It's been my experience that it doesn't work. I've typed in .showjoin then had a squaddie try to join and the pop-up message box appeared again.

id say also adjust Buff ENY and OBJ numbers.
lower the ENY, they shouldnt get more for killing
a fighter then a fight can for killing them, after all
thier job was/is to bomb things not kill fighters.
while lowering ENY on buffs, up thier OBJ rewards
for making the target and egging it.

yeah, the server thing is getting noticable. can't say i've ever had a significant problem with aces high until the server issues.
wotan summed up the perk thing pretty well. it's a non-issue for most really isn't it? ;)

What shall be fixed first of all is strat. Right now you can remove from MA all hq's, stations, cities, and all factories, and game will not change at all. Hitting strat targets now is just a waste of time. Strat of 1.07 was WAY better. Leave towns in game, rework all other part of 1.08 strat.
I really miss big strat buffs raids, both flying them and intercepting them. I also miss the ability to turn the table against the odds with correct tactical strikes. In 1.08 if country is gangbanged or has bad numbers numbers, it has no chance to survive.
1. .showjoin is a bug. Will be fixed I guess.
2. Agree on perk points. For example, adding 262 to AH made arado (and other perk planes) less safe, but arado perk price stayed the same. New strat made is hardly worthy too, because arado's main role were tactical strikes. IMO, perk prices shall be adjusted basing on planes' use and when new planes added to the game or AH rules changed.
3. I think map size is fine if we get working strat. Now with 2-3 frontal fields you have no means of breaking thru the massive defence, because fields are resupplied faster, than they are hit. When the means of attack have not enough value against the defence, you get a 1916 style trench war.

Lepaul is right something in gameplay missing from the hay days of AH is lasting craters that could damage your aircraft and can actually modify the surface you're on (sorry but WB does a nice job on crater damage) something like that would be nice for AH.
I agree on lowering the perk cost for the planes mentioned and I agree with Creamo  on that they should still be rare, but I say not that rare that they're not used.

Need........more........bandw idth..........please.......
My only real complaint. The strat system is annoying, but I can live with it. The lag and warping stuff I can't.

Osage,
when u want to kill troop barracks now, u have to hit the
1 in the town plus the 1s on the field. since HT put towns
on the fields they have a troop barracks and a Ammo
bunker in them.

Wilbuz,
You misinterpreted Curly's post. He didnt say the TA-152 should be perked less than the F4-4. He said that considering how much each of those 2 planes are flown, their perk value is a little high. Meaning both should come down. I think I agree that the F4-4 should be perked more than Ta-152 ... but I think the Ta-152 should be around 5-10 maybe and the F4-4 around 20?
Also I think that the F4-4 should show up only as an F4U. The perk label F4-4 makes it virtually impossible to fly without attracting a swarm.

On the topic of .showjoin, why not reverse the command ie. .invite "X", that way the radio buffer will be full of people requseting someone to invite them, not a pop-up that is in the flyers screen. Just a thought.

Damn Oosik! That's exactly the solution. Joins could occur only by invitation. Wonder why it's not that way?

Rgr Wilbus - I agree. I think the TA152 should be perked less than the F4U1c. I'm not sure about the F4U-4 (perk value.) If it's perked, it should be perked more than the TA152. Both planes have unreasonable perk values when compared to the F4U1C and Tempest.

I think your right. Perk values are needed, but they are kinda outta wack. All of them.
I killed hordes of planes for 4 tours in a Dora, and finally had enough for ONE, err, 1, 262.
Rare is rare, but I shouldn't have to wait 4 more months if I run outta fuel hiding from everyone (which I did. Did you know a VH landing saves 200 perks?!).
Well, actually, the 262 sucked. Whatever.

I'd like to see strat play a larger part in the game, although in what form I'll leave to the experts to figure out as long as it meant that for a country to survive they'd have to both defend strategic targets and make strategic strikes to weaken their opponents. I think that would lessen the continual furball type of thing and spread the action over more of the map.
Why does a country want or need a fighter force? The answer, quite simply and in keeping with age old sound military doctrine is to hold the high ground. For if you can hold the high ground, in this case the air space over a battlefield, you have greater control over whats happening on the ground. The ground war is the driving force behind airpower, controlling the ground war by controlling airspace is the only reason airpower exists, and without a robust ground war to influence air power is superfluous. To a large extent, the lack of a meaningfull and robust ground war result in what we have in the MA. Launch, climb, furball, die, launch, climb, furball, die...ad nauseum. Now, what does all this gibberish mean? Expand the ground war. Make it possible for a well coordinated gv column to take a base or city without air support. Make every front line base vulnerable to gv attack and capture. Base ack shouldn't destroy tanks, only airplanes and other gv's should be able to destroy tanks. A couple of HE rounds should destroy a hanger, not 40, thats rediculous. Make the spawn points around bases random so that everyone doesnt spawn in the same spot. I think osti and tank guns are way to vulnerable to a/c gunfire and definately need to be hardend. I think that if you wanna stop a tank you should have to hit it with a bomb or a boat load of 20mm API.
I know HT wants to develop an infantry model with the idea of having underground bunkers to capture and the like. I'd like to see an fps infantry model above ground as well if its technically feasible. As a pilot I'd like to have infantry to strafe :), and at the same time, as long as there's cover I dont mind bein' a target.
I think that if implemented these things would really round out the air war in general and give us good reason to fly other than furball, not to mention attract players interested in things other than the air war, therebye benifiting all of us.
Either way AH is still a great game

Yep, would be could if the "join MSG" would appear in the MSg bar by default. Lot of plp that join don't even ask up front, they just submit a join request, which then pops-up smack in the middle of the screen right when you're dogfighting somebody.
The .showjoin command doesn't work at all. Next join MSg still appears in the middle of the screen.

I disagree! :) If this gets implemented then I will demand Tempest being show in Icon only as TYPH because TYPHOON ON STERIODS is too long to put in the Icon text.... :D And being swarmattacked is normal, no matter which perk plane you fly. They just draw attention and the only way to counter this is to fly perks with wingman/men so you give the enemy more targets to shoot at :D Oh well...
Flame on... ;)

AKCurly:
For me I'd like to see marked improvement in the server.
Also, the map needs work, it seemed to have gone from readable to a size like the last line on an optometrist eye chart.
(yeah, yeah, I know, all I have to do is press the [ or ] buttons and I can read it, but does it have to be that clunky?)
And resupply needs some work also. I thought it was fixed but, it hasn't been.

This happened to me the other night. I had finally worked my way, undetected, to within 200 yards of a pesky Tiffy and was about to fire, when the join window popped up blinding me. I was damn lucky not to get pinged. Yeah, I eventually got the Tiffy, but it took a while.
HTC, get rid of that damn window, put the message in the text buffer in orange...
