Title: Settings not sticking?
Post by: Furzy on February 09, 2002, 03:39:00 PM
I recently had to Format my HArd drive. I had AH 1.08 on a Win 98 machine then installed Win ME < for want of another disk I lost my 98 one>. I Burned a copy of my AH before the format and plonked it into the new setup.

Now I Seem to have all my settings Carved in stone as in views/ sights loadouts and its an awful pain in the Ass. I can change them while flying but they go back to the old setup as soon as i re-up.

Is there any way to keep my current settings and cure this?

Oh And while Im At it In Win ME I have a problem with my MS FFB pro stick. when I get shot down or crash often my stick dosnt stop Shaking, It continues to do so in tower and even after I re-up.

The only cure I have for it is to go to Control panel/gaming options/< My stick> and properties... then shaking stops.

Fairly annoying too.

I hate Win ME :) But dont wanna fork out for Win 98. And waiting untill i hear good things about XP.

Hi Furzy,
Can't help you out with the stick I'm afraid :( But I would bet your settings problem is your files are set to "Read Only". Open the settings folder and right click any of the plane settings files you are having problems with. If the "Read Only" box is checked uncheck it. You can do the whole folder in one go if you start a dos session and change to the "settings" folder and type "attrib -r *.*"

Hope this helps.

Furzy,

I have a FF2 on win2k, and I get the same problem as you.

I also have a issue where the forces seem to change between flights, same plane, different force feed back, usually the elevator goes light.

Both of these issues have been since day one of FF introduction.

I guessed that the FF implementation is still not bug free.

Going out of and back into AH seems to clear any problems though.

Grayare You say going Out and back works for you, is that just Alt-TAbing?. If so Im nearly sure that dosnt work for me. I need to Alt-Tab And look at stick properties as above. Only take 5 secs but Annoying all the same.

Furzy,

No I have to go out of the game and then back in.

ALT-TAB leads to very strange colour pallete and translucent cockpit

Strange colors can be fixed by changing "swap paletes" when in video conf when starting AH for first time...
