:)

FWIW I"d like to see armaments like that one as well as the FritzX and the US 'BAT' bomb in AH.

Oh yeah, I remember those posts we saw when there was talk about a B29 and A-Bombs... I don't care, I won't be affected by radiation at 35K in my TA152 ;)

Honestly, I would prefer a Mistel configuration...

Say Bye-Bye to your CV ;)

You won't get close enough with you B29 to drop the bomb Westy, we don't NEED to get close to blast yer B29 out of the sky :D

Hard to imagine an effective use of a whire guided air to air missle.
I have fired a few TOW missles and an air to air version is interesting to contemplate. Especially one the same speed as the carrying aircraft..The 262 has to keep pointed at the buffs as it follows the missle in at nearly the same speed. Or it has to throttle back...which makes it extremely vulnerable to the escorts...
Like I said. Hard to imagine a way to use a wire guided A2A missle effectivly in a heavily escorted enviroment.

We won't get it, was never used in Combat AFAIK.

Pongo, it could be fired from 190's :)

from a 262 it would be weird, the 262 traveling in 540Mph and the missile in 510mph, you'd get it up yer own A** ;)

Wilbus
So now we have slowed a 190 down by how much..and it has to sit there with wires linking it to the missle for 20 seconds or so.
Guys I have fired wire guided missles that take 16 seconds to reach the target..its along time... Maybe if you closed and fired it at 1 (1600 yards)mile. then you have only 9 seconds to sit there staring at the missle to guide it to the bomber...
1001
1002
1003
1004
1005
1006
1007
1008
1009.
You cant do anything during that time. you are flying the missle not your plane.

Dont know. I just cant see the thing working if there are escorts. and if there are no escorts there are way better and cheaper ways to kill the bombers..

To me something with the fuse system for a noise based prox kill and without the guidence system would be more usefull. Line up at 2k fire 4 of them into the box and hope to kill a bomber. dive away. If that fuseing works its more usefull then such a prohibitive guidance system.

If the escorts are gone. Just put that fuse system on a 2k daisy cutter bomb and wipe out the bombers that way.

Umm, how does doing the aforementioned missile attack differ from doing a Rammjäger run (except that you don't have to come as close to the bombers doing the missile run)? And the Rammjäger concept... was it then such a disaster that it was immediately abandoned? Yah, thought so.

A rammjager run needs to stay pointing at the bomber for 3 seconds? the plane is free to manuver the entire rest of the time. The pilot is free to maintain his SA.  The cannons and armour add weight but little drag.
Imagine a 190 with more weight and exponentialy more drag. That has to sit with the firing aircraft tethered to the missle for the enire flight time. The pilot cannot be looking arround or even making any large corrections
to his controls. He is flying the missle.
Thinking that this missle would be like an amram is very misguided...lol It is not even like a tow where you keep your sight on the target and the computer steers the missle. It is like a first generation AT3 spiral.
and dont think that the missle is just going to need small corrections. The buffet behind the bombers is going to throw that thing all over the place. It will need some pretty radical
corrections to hit.
All this has in common with the ramjager concept is the vulnerablility of the interceptor to escorts.
Only AC used for this would be exponentialy more vulnerable.
The r4m is a far better bomber killer than this thing is.
It really is a concept much better suited to anti tank missles. That is why the Germans were adopting it to that. and why the rest of the world did the same I suppose.

(but it would work very well in aces high...no escorts. No weapon failures. no bomber wake buffeting)
