Title: Fighter perk points are not working at all
Post by: Jochen on February 06, 2001, 03:42:00 AM
Fighter perk points are not working at all because ground attacks can give you huge number of fighter perk points.

Example: I take Fw 190A-8 with 500 kg bomb and go leveling enemy factory. I score 40 fighter points after landing. To gain similar number perk points by killing enemy airplanes would require roughly 40 kills which is bit more difficult to accomplish than factory strafing run.

If you can very effectively pad you fighter perk account by killing ground targets, why bother to fly harder or less popular planes? There is no reason at all.

This is why current perk system does not work as it should ie. it does not promote flying of less capable fighters.

It works for bobmers though, I have seen plenty of Ju 88's doing bomb runs, earlier they were almost nonexistent in arena.

Solution: Give fighters different OBJ values ie. 109F-4 with very light armament and one light bomb has OBJ value of 25 while F4U-1C has OBJ value of 10. Also perk points for killing ground targets should be made smaller.

Will post this to feedback forum too.

You can't get 40 perk points attacking a factory with a FW190.

It doesn't carry enough ordnance. What you need is simply as much different things that explode (and ammo) as possible.

At best, lobbing a 500 kg bomb into the tents at the barracks, and then strafing with the FW, I think you MIGHT be able to get 8-10 perk points out of a sortie. At most factories you'll be lucky to get 5-6 perk points with a FW.

The Jug is by far the best choice, follwed by the Corsairs, the P-38, etc. Jug you can carry 3 bombs, 10 rockets, tons of strafing ammo.

The Factories aren't single buildings. They are many, many small, but easy to kill buildings.

It does take quite a bit of time, and a reasonable amount of bombing and rocket and strafing skill...you can't just fly over a factory, lob a 500 kg bomb into the middle of it, and fly home expecting 40 perk points.

I suggest you visit your nearest enemy training factory but you might have to wait your turn...

No, I have scored many sorties over 40 fighter perks in Fw 190A-8 armed with 4 X 20 mm and 1 X 500 kg.

I know there are better (and worse) planes to do ground attacks but perk point scoring does not reflect that (every fighter has same OBJ value), A6M is regarded same as the F4U which is not too realistic.

Yep, and one well placed 500 kg bomb can take out up to six (6) barracks, rest can be strafed... Get back home and Viola! 40 fighter perk points are yours without singe air to air kill.

This is clearly a loophole which should be plugged asap because it skewes point balance.

I rarely check my perkies, but last night I sunk a carrier, a cruiser, two destroyer escorts, and two PT boats....with a quad 40mm AA gun.

Got 0.99 perkies.

Guess I should have used an FW.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

How about adding perked attack planes? Something like an Hs-129 or another plane equally armed. That way when you hit the "sortie as attack" button your points can only go towards attack planes. No more cheating to rack up righter points. Hell, have those points go towards bombers for all I care, but this "Fw-190 gets 40 points for blowing factory" shouldn't be possible.

Hard to say what exactly is wrong and how to fix it... Here are few ideas:

* New attack perk point category - All ground damage goes to this account. This means that perk attack planes are needed, maybe A-26 or similar.

* Fix the training factory - This is the place where you can really rack up points because barracks are close together and you can kill many of them with single 500 kg bomb and then strafe the rest.

* Lower the points got from killing ground targets - strafing single barrack is now regarded as difficult as killing F4U-1C with C.202 in perk point sense. Hard to gues what happens more often.

popeye I don't get it. I'm hearing on these BB's from at least 2 other people that this is the case. They have done it. So what the hell are we doing dog fighting and trying to bomb CV's. This perk system is looking like a total joke. It's sounding like they have totally gotten the factories out of balance. I know me and I think it was Whels (it may have been Zoso) stopped buy a factory to see if there were any scraps left for us to shoot at. There were 3 or 4 things that had respawned and we strafed them. I shot at most 2 objects and went home with 5 points. That's all I had shot that mission. WAY to easy! If people are out there racking up those points when I'm up busting my butt in a dog fight for a 10th of those THAT'S A JOKE! I want a perk ride as bad as the next guy but it sounds like I better jump on the jabo band wagon to keep up.

I don't think that there should be any option of attack and fighter scores. If you shot a building it should automatically go to the attack score, a plane should go to fighter score. Attack points should only be used for perk attack planes like the B25H and your examples. The factories still need some point tweeking or the attack planes need to be priced to reflect the current scoring. The whole idea of people racking up these score while others are busting there but to get a point or two in a dog fight is unreal. I don't blame them for being smart enough to do it. I'm just pissed because all this time I haven't known I could too! Now I'm a 1000 points behind all of these people.

Still just a side effect of HTC trying to fix the problem of staffing hurting you Accuracy %. I imagine all those rounds that people fire at factories hurt thier accuracy %. But it seems like a small price to pay for all the perk points.

Jochen you need to go visit the gameplay/feedback board and find my thread about Popularity vs Performce.  The perk system is based solely on the popularity of the aircraft and performance isn't a factor in points.

I don't get it...

I was flying from 30 to 29 last night and saw the city below. Remembering the thread about straffing these, I went down and hammered away (at what was left, which wasn't much). I straffed the final 6-7 buildings (they blow too easy), killed a 38, and then landed on the CV. My fighter perk points were 0.66.

I figured it was because I hadn't selected 'Attack'.

Are you guys saying that you straffe these things and get *fighter* perks for these?

Not joking.

Aren't they quads?  Maybe dual.  Anyway, the 40mm AA guns on the carrier.

They're quads. There are AI duals on the DE's.

its a joke....
I got 93.xxx completely leveling nit training facility near 26/27 in p47 fully loaded with a rearm at 27. I straffed all ack s down used all ord and ammo re-upped emptied again all was dwn. 93 perks....
at 11 the other day shoot dwn 2 fiters jaboed vh ded killed a gv and got some pittly amount of perks (dont remember) and it was much harder to do. All with attack selected.
Ranking is porked as well..
aint this Aces High?
why does feild gunner/ground vehicles impact ranking the way it does......
I'm done ranting and really dont care about perks or score but it being kept I can't help checking my own...
edit there's no reason for field gunner scores to impact ranking 'cause as fg you cant die.......

For "best" effect visit training factory which offers large number of valuable barracks. And yes, perk points you earn by strafing barracks are added to your fighter perk points.

I just noticed today that the OBJ now no longer are 25 for all fighters.

Most planes are now 20-25. C-Hog is 5, D-Hog 15 and so is N1K2.
Clearly it is not only based on ordnance as the G10 for instance has 22, while G6 has 25 (exact same loadout).
