Title: Fuel burn advice
Post by: Alpo on February 18, 2002, 01:01:24 PM
I've often heard of people manually selecting this tank or that in an effort to get maximum performance out of various planes.

Is there a point of reference for this information or is it a try different things until it works for you.  I've always just used the auto switching feature and I'm curious what others do.

Alpo,

The two planes I know of where this is an issue are the P-51's and the Fw 190's.

In the P-51's, you want to use your Auxillary (Aux) tank before even the drop tanks.  Fuel in the aux tank throws the plane off balance.

In the Fw's, I believe you want to use the aft tank first, which is the reverse order of their use.  Not as sure of this as I can't fly a Fw to save my life.  I keep trying, though!;)
