Title: UBB Netiquette Question.
Post by: Rotorian on October 29, 2001, 10:31:00 AM
In NNTP while it is polite to quote some of the text you are answering to, it is very easy to get away with not quoting because your post will appear directly below that which you replied to.  However, it is a pain to do like some people do of quoting the whole text just to post one sentence..aka..Arlo :P.

In this UBB gig I cant tell who the heck someone is answering to, when they dont quote.  Some people answer with a name but you still have to scroll up the other 20 monkeys in between.  Then there those who answer and dont even mention a name, so you dont even know which monkey to insult.

So, it is not an AW thing it just a matter of figgering out who one is answering to.  I mean it is bad enough you have to wait for this html doohickie to load, yada yada yada.  Now if we cant get Arlo and Aub and FT Animal to stop quoting 3 paragraphs for a one sentence smartass remark, we may improve   :).

For any other questions refer to my sig.  Be warned several of my smart derrier friends will probably reply to this message by quoting the whole thing while typing some smartarse comment like  "you mean like this" to those dear friends I say BLAH!!!

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Title: UBB Netiquette Question.

A few months ago, when UBB died again here and was going to be fixed, many of us requested/asked that the next BBS software they consider take into account NNTP.  The Web Software I use, WIN Server, is a modern day variant of the Wildcat! BBS software from the old DOS BBS days.  Works great, very powerful, and has support for a NNTP interface, as well as ANSI/telnet, web, etc.

I agree with you, this would be a great spot for a system like WIN Server, so folks can log on via web, post/read messages etc, or use NNTP.  I prefer NNTP since it gets all the messages, is easy to recall which ones I've already read, etc etc.

Maybe the next time UBB blows up   :D

BTW, feel free to check www.santronics.com (http://www.santronics.com)  for info on WIN Server, or hit my site, www.checksix.net (http://www.checksix.net)

If they don't quote, they're prolly answering the latest reply.
