Title: What about custom panit jobs??
Post by: BigCrate on February 18, 2002, 08:20:32 PM
What about custom paint jobs.. I'd bet that this has already been brought up before. I think it would be cool to make our own paint
scheme on the planes we fly.. So is there any chance this might happen?? Oh and how would would paint your ride??

I paint my 38 olive drab on top and light gray on the belly.
shark teeth on both necelles and white painted on the openings
on the side of the necelles in the middle And my nose art would be a bright bellybutton red dragon breathing fire like something from the middle ages and I'll have to think of a name for a ship like that.

We would have to download the paint schemes of every plane in the arena each time we logged in - would take forever.

I do however think it would be neat if we could alter the schemes that we see on OUR end.  Couldnt that be possible?  Hell is it opssible now?  Are these files present somewhere such that they can be altered?

aknimitz, that could REALLY bring a cheating problem; you could, say, take all planes and give them very bright and large paintschemes, and there you have it, an easier target.

Eww good point.  :(  Guess there's nothing that can be done to allow front end paint schemes.

It certainly seems practical to allow squads to create their own paint schemes that would be reviewed by HTC and then made available (but not mandatory) to all. Submissions for updates could be limited to quarterly or so. It seems that these files wouldn't be very large but I've been wrong before.

Thought of another idea to reduce the amount of effort involved. Allow each squad to submit one scheme for each plane. The paint would be applied to the whole squad.

Furthermore, limit the custom paints to squads with at least 10 members or allow only the top 10-20 ranked squads from the previous tour the custom paints. Just brainstormin' here (or was it a brainfart?)

Reviewing those paint jobs, one for each plane, submitted by all the squads, would take about 6 years.

What might be a more attainable goal would be to have HTC have 2 or 3 paint jobs, created by them, available for each ride.  When you pick your loadout, you pick your paint job.

It would be cool to pick a plane and then choose a color. That would be nice.

If HTC wants more paint jobs, why not post templates and offer a free months subscription to those that are the best and are used during an update.

Just a thought.

I would like to see several variations of the current system:

Squad art could replace country origin (roundels, meatballs, swasticas etc) specific graphics.  No extra download or lag, just put the current nose art on the wings and fusalage.  This would make squads more visable, and the arena more interesting.

Maybe a bonus for top ranked players having a colored stipe or nose or something.  Just those with 2/1 kd ratios or whatever.  I feel it should be OPTIONAL for those who qualify, but many would be glad to garner more attention.

Finally and hopefully this is comming in 1.09    make squad logos visable in films, along with all the other things that are missing.

Very good ideas!! Didn't WB have a deal where you could paint your plane they way you wanted??
