SimHQ has a new article on how to use the rudder. Stop by and tell us what you think!

Great job as always...I only had 1 question.
I was always taught to coordinate the turn in a T&B fight as you hit stall speed especially...i.e. fly the ball. Are you saying thats not required....I dont always do it but sometimes if it's down to white nuckles time I'll certainly look at the ball as the stall buzzer growls:)

No, that is not what I was suggesting at all! I would recommend that we keep the ball centered at all times...the only exception being those times when you yaw the plane on purpose.
This would especially be true when flying in a high AOA situation. The last thing you want when nearing the stall is a yawed condition. Those are the prerequisites for a spin...a stall combined with a yaw.

Thanx for the clarification, so utilizing the ball to maintain "coordinated" flight turing the turn is correct....somehow it didnt read like that to me in the article...probably my error.
Thanks Again

No sweat! Nobody's nominated me for a Pulitzer Prize yet, so let's chalk it up to my writing style!!
You've got it right. Use rudder to fly in coordinated flight, particularly when you are firing the gun. Good practice anytime!

Andy,
Good article! I also read the comments on the SIMHQ MSG boards and that covers it pretty much, :)

andy, one suggestion on a pure website setup issue... have the images open in a new window instead of in the same window. When I'm reading an article like this, I like to have the full size image in a separate window. It's easier for me to go back and forth between text and image between two separate windows instead of back and forth in the same window (so I right click, and choose open in a new window).
overall, the article was very informant, I learned a few things I hadn't thought about before, or was just plain wrong about!

Nifty
Good idea! I'll pass this along to our editors.

Andy, I have to agree with nifty, I always right click, choose "open in new window"; and alt tab back and forth to see what you mean....
Apar: Dank je wel, erg interessant :-)
