I work as a techie for the largest ISP in PR.
A few minutes ago I got a call (long distance) from someone in the states (speaking with a southern english accent) REQUESTING a list of all the emails we serve.
I told him that we have a privacy policy and that we dont give that information out. Then he offered me to purchase the list. I told him we dont sell that information.
Then.. he asked me to purchase the list from ME.
I asked him what was his name and if he had an account with us (i asked as if it were normal procedure, but I wanted his info for investigation). He got worked up, and told me that "we had to solve the first problem, and then we could move on to other matters"
I told him I had his phone number, and then he hung up on me.
Damn retard.

yeah, this is an example of modern solicitation...They don't just ask a few handsomehunk questions and hear you hang up on them,...they pretend "know you" or your company so they can try and extract a link for personal information...or...err,mailing list...for their spamming pleasure........Lead them on and then give em the cockola!!!!!!

We had an odd thing happen here where I work, some feller emailed our entire group for examples of Unix scripts that we've written. Needless to say, we turned his email over to security. At large companies, you just don't go around asking for examples of scripts people have written if you don't work for that particular organization.

When I first read this post I thought it said: Lead them on and then give them the coca cola.
I thought that was funny...
