Title: Reformatting computer with WindowsXP
Post by: fdiron on February 22, 2002, 11:56:04 AM
I would like to reformat my computer. However I am not real sure how to do it. It is a custom computer and did not come with a startup disk. I do have the windows XP cd though. Any advice on how to reformat would be appreciated.

if XP is like Win98 you can make a start up disk from the OS but you do not need it if your machine will boot to the cd rom.

see if you can change the setting in the bios to cd boot and try to boot to ur XP cd. from there you should be given the option of reformating and installing the OS fresh

During the boot process hit DEL (or whatever it is for your machine) to enter the Setup menu.  In there someplace you should be able to specify what the boot devices are, and in what order.  Make sure CD Rom is one of the options, and that it is before Hard Drive.  Also sometimes you will have to "hit any key to boot from CD", but it should prompt you for that.
