Because the US is spanking that bellybutton :D
-
wooop woop wooop!!! 22 years to the day from "do you believe in miracles" :D :D :D
But you understand, the USA must be cheating! How could college boys beat steroid built up Russian hockey pro's? ;)
-
w00t :D Bring on the Canucks!
-
We'll be there don't start without us!
P.S. Word has it we might let our woman play....just to make sure ya'll got your cups on
-
college boys? I don't know much about hockey, but i saw a guy named Brett Hull on the ice? Wasn't there a Nintendo game back in the 80's called "Brett Hull Hockey"? Is he teaching at a college or something?
The ruskies gonna nuke u for this ;)
-
He was talking about the 1980 games when a bunch of kids beat the big bad Russians.

That was a great game. Great comeback by the Russians in the 3rd. I'd rather see USA and Russia play on Monday than USA and Canada.
I don't know what the Russians could complain about in this one. They are all NHL players, so the officiating style of NHL refs should be no problem for them.
There was a shot by Samsonov(?) that almost went in, and I think Fetisov wanted a video review. The refs didn't seem to mention it to Fetisov, but Gary Thorne (CNBC announcer) said at the time that the upstairs officials were reviewing it and ruled it a no-goal. The replays shown on TV clearly indicated it hit the post and did not cross the goal line.
Maybe that the US scored all their goals on powerplays? I think they called only one more penalty against Russia than against USA. I saw several fouls by Russian players that weren't called. The US team just did a better job on the powerplay.
Near the end of the game it looked like Roenick might have covered the puck in the crease. Russians might have had an argument for a penalty shot there, but I didn't get a good look at it.
The biggest violations I saw were the Russians sending out all 5 skaters even though matching minors had been called in the last minute of the game. This was corrected by the refs before the puck was dropped but it sure seemed odd to me.
Also at the end of the game Russia delayed the game twice by failing to get into the faceoff circle when the US was ready. By rule the refs should have dropped the puck regardless of what the Russians were doing. But Fetisov wanted some time to talk to his players, and afraid of further controversy, the refs wimped out and let the Russians get away with it.
Overall a great game and I'd hate to see the Russian Olympic delegation further humiliate themselves by protesting the outcome. Better luck next time.

Go Team Canada!

If Canada wins that game I will eat my hat. They have been unimpressive so far. I think Canada is the fourth best team in the tournament behind USA, Russia, and Sweden. USA did a better job of choosing players who are suited for the Olympic ice and rules. Canada's goonish defense and slow forwards will be exposed. And even if their skaters play well, Richter is playing like he did in World Cup '96. Canada will remain the best Girl's hockey nation on earth. USA all the way. :)
Tell you what let's make a bet.
If Canada wins, I'll fly nothing but Bf 109E for a tour when AH 1.09 comes out.
If USA wins, you fly nothing but Hurricane I for a tour when AH 1.09 comes out.

Shouldn't even odds be 109E and Spit I, or Hurricane 1 and 110?
You can't be that confident if you won't go evens. ;)

"That was the best game I've ever been in," U.S. forward Jeremy Roenick said.
Not for Fetisov, who criticized the officiating -- just as many Russian Olympic officials have for several days -- after every U.S. goal followed a Russian penalty.
"There's not much you can do about it right now," said Fetisov, who was surly and defensive afterward. "An agreement's been signed that is designed to have a final between Canada and the USA. You have this final, you have NHL referees. ... They live here and they know the North American players."
Just plain old pathetic. Guess they're going to want a do over....
-
Pretty lame statement by Fetisov, considering every single one of his players lives in the US or Canada and plays in the NHL with those same refs. Sore loser looking for excuses. Glad to see by those comments that some of his players are taking it like men.
-
If the US brings the same crooked refs they bought for the girls game maybe they have a chance..
-
Wow welcome to Whinerlympics 2002!
-
Nashwan 110 is no match for a Hurricane. 303 Squadron had a 6:1 kill/loss ratio in the Hurricane I in the BoB. If they model it right it should have no problem against contemporary Nazi fighters.
Flying a Messershit is like wearing a hair shirt for me. I think the Hurri is a fair trade. :)
-
Biased officiating alone doesn't result in something like 40 shots to 11 shots on goal... after two periods.

-
DMF the scorekeeper was clearly a capitalist lackey who wrote down two US shots for every one he saw.
-
All the players should have to represent the countries in which they reside,,,,,oops 80% live in USA!....speaks for itself

I think we should all try to remember that the Russian athletes have not been anything but sportsmanlike in every one of these issues.
to them and go USA.
-
I'll follow funked's bet
if the USA loses, 109E for the entire new tour
comon newwguy, dont have any faith?

"...Canada's goonish defense and slow forwards will be exposed. ...".
Wow. Have you been watching Canada's games? They got better each game, outskating Finland and the Czechs badly. They've had hard luck around the net so the scores were close, but they outplayed them both.
P.S. Anybody with Sutter and Chelios on defence shouldn't be criticizing. They have long had the reps of two of the dirtiest and make Canada's D look like choirboys. :)

Yeah I've noticed that too, the players have been contradicting the coaches and political leaders. S! to them, they are the good ones in this, but their leaders are freaky cry babies..

Sorry funked, I forgot that I had replied to this post! You are on for that bet. Heck I'll fly whatever you want, it dosent matter, USA is going down. Watch Lindros tomorrow. He hasnt played well most of the tournament, but he came out with a chip on his shoulder yesterday. When he plays like that, look out. I also predict we will expose Richter for the pretender that he is. Canada 4 USA 2.
Pongo, we will have NHL refs, so we wont have to worry about seeing another home court advantage reffing fiasco like we did in the womens final. Call it whining if you want Funked, but NOBODY gets 11 powerplays in one game, with 8 straight. Especially against a team that had only 13 powerplays against it in the whole tournament. If the situation had been reversed... Oh my! Oh yea, we won that game, so who cares!

The best hockey is womans hockey! :p

That was some good hockey funked, reffing aside. I have often laughed at womens hockey but i gave it a look and found that those girls play with more emotion and heart than the men, IMO. At least when its Canada vs USA. They really want to beat each other at championships after playing each other 10 or so times a year. Not to say that the men dont, but I dont see the same animosity towards each other, which makes for such good hockey :) Hehe, yet another thread gone astray.

Cat fights in full body armour.
MMMM... :)
*RRRROOOOWWWRR*

Why the heck would they even consider having refs from either country that is playing?

Yep... heard that one before...
Funny thing is... half the hockey games I go to have no fights. Also, for every fight you see, there are about four that never quite made it to a full out swinging match.
-
I used to go watch the Bruins in the mid-80's and whenever Jay Miller hit the ice, you knew the gloves weren't far behind!
I really don't know if he could even skate...he was never on the ice enough to find out.
It's a different game now, and I think it's for the better.

I saw Miller a lot when he played for the Kings. Miller and McSorley on the same team was pretty entertaining. :)
-
i love hocky fight and i wondered what would happen if a USA player and a Russian player duked it out. Who would win. And why do all the good Russian hocky players names end in "ov"
Fetisov
Samsonov
Gustov
That last one was a joke:D

Fighting is actually up quite a bit in the NHL these days... then again, only the goons are fighting, not anyone of any importance. If people didn't like fights, in general, then guys like Mike Tyson wouldn't have made the money that pays the lawyers to keep them out of prison :)
I hear Herb Brooks is slagging the Canadian dump and chase style. I'm not sure I'd want to play run-and-gun with the Canadian team, they have a lot of talent and are every bit as quick as the US team.
Strange agreement that these games have NHL refs. It basically means the only refs for the games are either Canadian or US. The NHL refs contract apparently specifies that they have to ref any game that has a majority of NHL players in it. Part of the agreement to allow the NHL players into the Olympics required NHL refs to participate.

Viper I don't think fighting is a big part of hockey outside of North America. The foreign players blow up occasionally but most of them will just use the stick as a weapon. Most of them I've seen drop the gloves got their teeth handed to them. The only guy I remember being a decent fighter was Andrei Nazarov, a huuuuuge Russian guy who I once saw knock somebody out with a head butt.

THEY USE THEIR STICK TO CLOBER EACHOTHER!!!

This is bizzare stuff....that so called intelligent people could fall to this level of thinking is almost to much to get my brain around.
At first I thought it was just an attempt to influence the IOC (re: the Jamie Sale and David Pelletier episode) with the hope that Russia could get away with more medals but now that Putin has put his two cents worth in I am not so sure. It's not unheard of for the leader of a country to stir the flames where the Olympics are concerned but it is unusual for this to occur when the evidence to said crime(s) doesn't exist. No doubt some will argue that it does and they already have but to me it is like the fart buying the prettythanghole...It stinks and it lacks substance and truth.
Politics run amuk in the modern age indeed!
-
It was a fair game. USA was better (in first two periods), and won.
At least every second window was lit in Moscow at 3 AM - the whole country was watching them. I watched it with 3 friends - and we almost broke down the furniture
I think that officials should better call judges from "neutral" countries - so the very question of judgement couldn't be raised at all. At least we didn't see that famous Canadian "wrong stick angle" from 1981, when that loosers took away our prize.
Some people here are furious at Russian "NHL" team. "Can you imagine that players winning the game with their employers?" they say... NHL players attract negative emotions since World Cup 1999 in Leningrad, where they couldn't even make in to the play-offs, and got 13th place, losing to Belarus and Latvia. People got mad - "Pack your bags and go f#$king back to your America!" :( The only decent five there was from Magnitogorsk "Metallurg"...
Funny, but Belorussian team consists mostly of players from Russian championship.
Frankly speaking, after that failure I hoped Belarus could win third place :(
If only they started playing from the very start, not in a third period!!! Damn, they COULD kick yankees face against the ice!
And why do all the good Russian hocky players names end in "ov"
It's simple for a family name - Samsonov is a son of Samson, Pavlov is a son of Pavel, etc. Don't mix it with "second name", that is a form of your father's name - I am Pavel Yurievich Pavlov - Pavel, who's father is Yuri, from the family of Pavel's - pretty stupid, like Paul Paulson ;) but easy to remember ;) I think I should name my son Pavel :)
-
Well, USA played like crap today, so I will fly the Bf 109E. :)
-
me too
but i'll enjoy it :)
