Gentlemen: I have lost my mind in joy and rapture.

I just bought a PNY Verto Ti500 about a week ago.  It came with 3D glasses.  I didn't bother to try them, thinking they would suck.

I was wrong.

Oh was I wrong.

Oh how I wish I had a clean pair of underwear on as I write this, just so I could soil them again with the fond memory.

Aces High in true 3D is INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!  It takes some tweaking of the perspective and settings, but my friends, once you hit the sweet spot this is as real as it gets.  I tried FS2002 as well with the new 3D cockpits.  Again it takes some tweaking.  But holy sh*t. You'll never go back to 2D.

Please pardon my implied language.  But if you try this, you will offer the same sentiment.

I paid $349 + tax at an EB for a bundle -  Ti500 and glasses. If you buy the glasses separately, they want $80 for them or something like that.  Those are the correct glasses, btw.  The adjustments are many - there's like 15 "hotkeys" to play with.  You really just have to experiment until you get a feel for what they do and you get it right.  But once it's right the image is clear, the depth perception is amazing, and it won't screw up your aim.  Actually what I spent most of my time doing last night was carrier landings.  Wow.   :)  I have my PP certificate in RL and this makes AH and FS2002 actual training tools of value jusging flare on landing, distance from runway in the pattern, etc.  For the record I have a pretty good monitor, which is important - I'm running 1600x1200x32 at 100 Hz. high refresh is key to a good image.

The way it works is pretty simple.  The glasses are essentially an LCD shutter that blocks out each eye alternately so that the total frequency per eye is half the CRT refresh rate.  The image on the screen alternates in sync with the shutters to provide left eye and right eye perspective.  If you've ever been to Epcot and seen the Captain Eo movie, or any of the movies there, it's similar (except they use polarization instead of alternate immage/shutters).  So to your comparatively slow brain, it looks like and is a true 3D image with depth, etc.  That's a pretty simple explation - any techhies out there feel free to explain in more detail.

I can't stand watching a monitor with 60Hz or less refresh rate... it seems like you'd be watching 50Hz in each eye with the shutters on the glasses going off--don't you find that annoying? Or has the novelty not worn off yet?

I honestly haven't noticed any flicker with 1600x1200 @ 100 Hz.  And I normally do notice below 60.

will the new cards run higher than 1024x800?
I have a GF2 32mb card and mine will only do the 3d 1024 and under.  I tried it once with AH and didn't tweak enough.. couldn't stand runnin at that low of a res.  (I think it prefered 800x640).

Ordered a GF3...supposed to arrive today...unfortunately I don't think my Blue Light Special monitor will refresh at 100hz without bursting into flames  :)

Does it make you want to puke after a while?  I remember reading 3d Comics as a kid and getting sick to my stomach after a while.

Of course, maybe that is because I was head down in the back of the family suburban  :)
