Title: Video Woes :(
Post by: Tac on February 24, 2002, 06:43:17 PM
Turned my PC on today, was playing my games, browsing this very forum..and all the sudden my video display became blurry, as if out of focus. Im typing this looking at my screen...and it looks just like when you take someone else's glasses and look through them. :( :(

First thing I thought was video drivers so I got the latest nvidia WHQL detonators, downloaded them, removed the old ones, and as I was rebooting the system I noticed the RAM check letters looked out of focus as well.

Went into bios, its blurry (not as obvious as when in windows, but its blurry).

I hope to gawd its some sort of virus, (checked with pccilling online viruscheck, nothing came up), 'cause if its my monitor OR my Gforce3 (WAA!) im gonna have a stroke.

Will try to plug monitor to another PC, but its a HEAVY 21" monitor.

Any ideas if this is a virus of some sort?

Yep, My monitor has some same problem.  It even has the crossing shadows that extend from every dark color on the screen.  Real annoying, but it still works...Gonna wait till it dies a horrible death!!

If the high voltage power supply increases or decreases in voltage to much your video will defocus, typically the high voltage power supply will put out somewhere on the order of 25 to 36 kv depending on the size and type of tube it is, best bet is to take it to a shop for repair or get a new one, but without the training & test equipment I strongly recomend you don't fool with it, it could very easily kill you !
