Amazing story, but the best part was this lame attempt at schmaltz by Cafferty of CNN:

"Because I've got a hunch, without the likes of you back there during World War II, the likes of me wouldn't be sitting here right now talking to the likes of you. "


The likes of that wording should be left out of the likes of that newscast so the likes of us don't have to hear it.
