Just bought a DivX CD with that beautifull movie! Was looking for it here in Moscow for almost 10 years! Saw it in the movies when I was in college, but never saw it on a tape...

Is it true that it was the most unsuccessfull Spielberg's film?

With John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd and some other big names, 1941 I would think made more money at the box office. Eventhough it didn't do well, Empire of the Sun is still one of my favorite movies.

I checked out 1941 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0078723) at the IMDB and it says the film's runtime is 118 minutes, but that the director's cut is 146 minutes. I never knew there was a director's cut of this movie. Is that what you purchased?

Boroda....there is an old movie called "The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming". About a Russain submarine that accidently runs aground at a small town in New England. Very funny and well done. Alan Arkin plays the Russian sub commander. Probably made in the mid 1960's.

It was 1966 and the Director was Norman Jewison.

Post by: osage on March 02, 2002, 03:52:08 AM: I love that scene in Empire of the Sun, when the kid finally gets to see a Mustang as it buzzes the prison camp in the late afternoon light. The flash of silver and the sound of the Merlin has that indescribable effect on the hairs on the back of your neck.

It really does kinda fly like a Cadillac.

The Japanese Zero fighters are in fact North American built Harvard trainers modified to
look like the Zero.

Tom Danaher, who flies one of the Japanese "Zeros" in the movie, was credited with the last U.S. aerial kill when he was a pilot in U.S. Navy at the end of World War II.:cool:

I have seen that movie about a sub crew, but it was more then 10 years ago, so I don't remember much. Gave me an idea of how Americans view Russians ;)

Does anybody know the name or where a copy of this documentary can be bought?

Brian Keith is playing the Sheriff and I like this actor very much because of his sarcasm.
I was very sad when I heared that he committed suicide some years ago.

But anyway - if you havent seen the film - check out for it. You will laugh very often :D :D :D

The documentary "A China Odyssey" is included as an extra on the DVD and laserdisc versions of the film. It doesn't appear to be available as a standalone video.

Mark Hanna and his dad, Ray Hanna did the Mustang flyby scenes.

You may have heard agbout the death of Mark Hanna in 1999 from injuries sustained in an airshow crash of a Spanish-built "Buchon" Messerschmitt.
