Better than that, I've played the game
-Sikboy
-
you've got to admit its a great advert and im tempted to see what its like purely because it looks like more than one plane flies together!!! :) is cooperation any better in FA3?
-
Looks like IL2.
-
you almost have to have a neuclear system for it to look that good.
-
What's "Cooperation" ?? :)
Anyway, can't help but say 'wow' the amount of effort put into editing that advertisement. The scenes are admittably the best of its kind. Of course, what is inside the game is a completely different story  .
However, the graphics are really entertaining. The flashes of hits on enemy planes are very good, considering our AH hit sprites are also very old. The way parts are blown off is also good(I actually note the two~three gradual levels of damage on wingtips alone :) )
I think the difference comes with the light factor and glare effects. AH supports only one source of light in the physical environment, and that is the sun. All the other light sources are non existent and represented only by bitmap level colors.
Anyway, FA3 is a neat eye candy. :)
ps) couldn't help but laugh when the narrarator was saying 'realistic flight environment'. The scene was a cockpit view looking downwards into the rudder, which is clearly padlock tracking an enemy under the plane.

cc that hazed... very nice advert. reminds me of what bushman did for WWII Online. The speaker's voice sounded like a droid of some sort. ... AND was that a P51 rolling from a CV in that last scene?!
-
Hmmm...for a second there I thought I wandered into the O Club.
-
Isn't PadLock Purdy!
And just when it thought I had it out of my system. Ohh guilty pleasures!
-
HTC needs to use something like this to promote AH me thinks +)

cc...nice advert. I like the way crap flies off of aircraft when you're hitting them, even if it looks like crap there, and I liked the water effects - the water "spray" or responding to the prop flow of the P51 (heh) taking off from the carrier and the ripple effect that the bomb had in the water.
Don't know what's real or what's not, but those are things I liked seeing.

too bad fighter ace is so arcade because aces high is just about te ugliest sim that people pay for now :(
those carroiers and the bomb water effects when you bomb the cvs are cool. aces high graphics are just too 1998 ish for 2002.
-
I played WB in 2D because it worked better there.
I play AH with 1998 graphics because the playability is the best in the market. That just about covers it.
I would never trade good modeling to eye candy.
-
neither would i. thats why i have an aces high account and not a fighter ace account :) but there is no reason you cannot have both.
-
I played some FA3 over the weekend, and the ONLY things that look good are the effects and aircraft, and then only when you are near to them. At distance, everything degenerates VERY quickly, and the terrain looks plain awful in comparison to AH. As for it even being in the same time zone as Il-2... it is not even close in ANY respect.
There's pretty, and there there is usable...
Add in the X-Wing flight model and laser beam guns, and you've got a nice window dressing.
-
Speaking of AH advertisement...
hmm..
anybody know something about producing Movie/TV stuff :D ?
It'd be interesting if we try our own version 'advertisement' by editing cool clips and making sort of a 'AH Documentary' :D Putting the most glorious scenes, fights and effects in there :)
Count me in if there are plans of this sort of advertisement!
I'd be happy to play my part as the 'bad guy taking crap and going down in flames' :D

naaa they dont have glasses ...... so keep it :D

Hmmm... interesting concept for team play. German fighters providing cover for German bombers.
-
AH AVI movies are on the way.
"You will also be able to move your viewpoint to other aircraft in your films instead of just being slaved to your own. This will also give you the ability to capture films to an AVI format."

Nice ad
I also liked the water effects....the ripple as the aircraft launched from the barrier, and the huge water explosion when that guy tried to bomb the destroyer. Nice!
Seems like nice eye candy. I also liked the effect they showed of the bomber taking off, Im not sure if it was dust or exhaust showing as the lifted off.
Flying "outside" the cockpit? Holy arcade game concession :)
Didn't notice....were there hi alt contrails?
-
The bomb hitting the side of the carrier was really nice, we truly need an all inclusive sim good graphics, explosions come to mind. I did like the the way the wings tore off. Just to much of an arcade game in the FM department, but does have some cool things to look at though.
-
someone should turn the sun on in that game - it looks like a bunch of shadows fighting.
-
looks similar to IL2..
but with IL2 winning hands down.
-
Hmm..i can't seem to download it. It stops buffering at either 58 or 64%.
Does anyone know why it might do this and what I can do to rectify it?
-
It doesn't like you... kill yourself... :D
-
Poor taste to spam our board.....I'll hold my tongue any further until HTC does their little avi ad...let's just pray HT doesn't do the voice over:D

Let it DL, i had the same problem but i left to go to the bathroom and the DL finished.
also what are you using to play it?
-
Liked the Damage (the wingtip shot part) & did you notice
- Bombs fall in salvos
- Dust effext behind the GV's
Dunno about the game itself, haven't tried it yet.
-
The eyecandy is very nice in the game. However as usual the advertisement leaves an optimistic picture of the whole. There is no more teamplay in the arena's than in AH.
Added to the already flaky FM is the fact that _nobody_ is in the full realism arena, it's just another arcade multiperson game.
Full realism arena btw has no icons as a forced default. :)
Maybe that's why all newcomers turn away from it. It's hard enough to try to cope with the tunnelvision(tm) FOV it has.
-
Very cool.
I downloaded FA3 again because of it, didn't like it much at all. That's a good AD I must say.
(Funny how good as it looked in the AD, nope, it ain't.)
The Il-2 films are as good or better, and "what you see is what you get". Really.
Not seen much hype on that of late though. Wonder why?
I figured the AH crowd would be just loving IL-2.
-
Probably has to do with the fact that IL-2 is not much of a MMOG, I'm not into boxed offline stuff anymore.

Ah...Chaos, took your advise and went to the john and yur right...the download finished. LOL :D
But it still wouldn't play....no picture. no sound.
It loaded Win. Media Player by default. But I got no codec warnings so asumed I had the right ones. :)

Mindless furballs are fun mrsid, not arguing. But dead nuts on WWII aircraft graphics coupled with a decent FM are still viable, even at the 32 player limit. Multiplayer takes a few more clicks of the mouse, but Im savy enough to navigate the 15 seconds of hooking up.
Course you could note a warp happy arena at 300+ players in a MMOG with degraded graphics is "better", I think it's just a matter of simple trade-offs and preferance.
Still, to call IL-2 a "Box Sim" is misleading. And you may be missing out. Or not. I don't care.
-
IL2 kicks butt! immersive as hell.
true, not the mega-multi player option but who cares. It's a different beast and well worth the time to get good at.
I still dig AH but IL2 is one squeakin' sim
screenshotshttp://www.nick-tucker.com/_pages/IL2-1.htm

Can't say much since I've only played the demo.
Ive heard from my friends that the FM didn't improve over the demo though.
I'd like to see IL-2 online but unfortunately I don't know anyone who owns one, nor will I pay the price just to try it.
It looks very cool even offline though. The ground terrain is the first one where I felt like falling when spiraling down :)
-
Il2 is awesome. It is by far the greatest prop sim to date Imo, however its not a massive online game like Aces High.
Even without having 400+ people playing at mulitple parts of a map at the same time, the 32 max ive seen is SURELY Plenty when online games are hosted at hyperlobby.
No worries about 1200K yard single ping deaths either. If anything the gunnery seems to be much more imo,... (realistic).
Is it me, or does FA3 seem to be looking at Il2 as a point of reference?
:p

I’ll tell you what. Buy the game, patch it, and then crack it. Spend time sorting out the views, (hint: A saitek gives you mouse control and sweet view options, rivaling AH even with the Il-2 limiting ultra realistic approach to that particular game play feature) Give it to all your friends, play COOP missions. If they dig it, make em buy it. I crack everything I buy, or take in trade, and if it’s good, buy it anyway. I support the developers. At least it dispels bad PR from demo’s as you make so painfully clear.
Listen, when IL-2 introduces the Western front maps and planesets, it will crush all flight sims of the WWII era.
Why? Because on a GF3, it is like a fluid real-time museum of WWII fighters. Granted, it has flaws. Namely, flaps are used as air anchors, planes take off like dragsters, even though ground-handling models seem dead on, and various planes have suspect performance. Improvements will happen, none, which right now are showstoppers.
In future patches, I see those flaws becoming more extinct, as the user base and the makers of IL-2 are very well in tune with each other. “Secrecy” seems a bad word there, a refreshing developer attitude indeed.
Now whether 32 players at once is enough for you, I dunno. Still, COOP mode makes for endless scenarios, without CT setup problems, sign up headaches, user time attendance issues, etc…
If you got the people to play (squad night) it is just fantastic. And going to get better which is the real kicker.
AH is the toejam, and a lot of fun, just don’t discount other means of WWII flightsim fun out of loyalty. HTC knows their nitch, so should it’s players.
And it certainly gives a benchmark for HTC to bridge the gap, see?
-
if Il2 would set up a MMOG server and charged $10 a month...it would kill ALL flight sims out. except maybe the hardcore fans of certain companies. i garentee if il2 had a MMOG server i would subscribe. still have my AH account tho. AH is my first online sim. kinda got a little sentimental value to me. i'll be here till the day it dies. but i would also be playing Il2 just as much. i personally dont have the game as of now. but from everything i've heard there isnt a sim that can touch it.
-
Kinda what I’m getting at Pimp, is players like you can still find great fun in AH, but will find fun and a necessary distraction in Il-2 given it a chance. Imagine immanent AH update time seem like a welcome surprise, not a priority to your game play geek wants!
Initially I just Wow’d at the IL-2 graphics, and scoffed at the interface as I was used to what’s in AH . Then out of update boredom, I dove into it much like I had too in AH to set it up and see what it was all about. I suppose many new players to AH feel exactly the same way, whether it is learning curve or their just used to another sim.
It’s 2 different approaches to WWII aircraft combat, each is cool, has good points, some glaring flaws. We can’t meld Combat Mission, F4, AH, IL-2, and Operation Flashpoint into one super sim. Yet….
However, discussing it might fall into the eyes of developers, which info and feedback from players ain’t all bad. Plus, peoples might just give it a try, buy it, and give resourses to the game makers to update the cool stuff more and more.
Or I could tell you about my Pontiac. Up to you.

Creamo? U using Saitek Cyborg 3d USB?
If ya are can you suggest a stick setup for IL2?

X45. Enable the mouse function on the throttle.
The increment mouse view is the toejam.
