The beauty. I really would appriciate it if we could get this (not this camouflage) in one of the next Versions. Would be nice for early eastern scenarios.
Take a look here (http://kithobbyist.com/VVS/ModelArticles/Massimo/mig3.html)

A "high" altitude (By Russian standards) interceptor that was obsolete by mid/late 42.
It played an important role in the defence of Moscow in late 41....... was the most heavily produced plane in Russia for one month (I think around August 41).
Very unpopular with pilots.......... even more so than the Lagg3.
Apparantly it spun easily and was very difficult to recover.
Cant deny its pretty tho
Alexander Pokryshkin was not the top (highest scoring) VVS ace although considered to be the best exponent of ACM the Russians had.
He mastered every thing he flew from I-16, thru Mig3, thru P39 to La7 and back to P39.

I was under the impression that this thing hauls bellybutton by 1940-41 standards. Does anyone have hard data on it? I doubt it will find a home in the MA, but perhaps in the CT. It's one of those planes that I've always wanted to fly online.

You're wrong, brewster was uber compared to all those pesky soviet/allied planes..

What Tilt said. Even so I always thought it was one of the sleekest and good looking aircraft of WWII.
And we need it for scenarios!!!!!! :)

While I don't count internet sources as "hard numbers" (and this post is about as well researched as my 4th grade science fair project) This site (http://www.ophetweb.nl/ww2w/warbirds.html) Gives the Mig3 398mph at 25k. Not bad for 1940-41. It seems like it was built for the wrong side of the war however. I imagine the Germans could have put it to good use as an interceptor, whereas the Soviets spent so much time supporting the Tank battles down low. As far as gameplay goes, it would give the Reds another hi alt plane to go with the Yak-9U. In this sense, it would probably be good in the CT, but not so much for Scenarios, since most eastern front scenarios will be played out in support of tank battles. I guess you could use it for hi alt cap, but, from the reports it might not dive so well stability wise (this is just a guess, going by the coments of "unstable flight charactoristics" so even then, when they have to come downstairs they might get chewed up. I guess we'll not know until such time as it gets modeled, and unless someone can come up with a really good reason it should be modeled any time soon, it wont be.
Once again, this is super preliminary opinion based on a single internet source and foggy memory. It surves only to encourage further investigation, and not to make any real point.

Wow! I like it! Iwant it!
it had 625 km/h at 7800m! Great for 1941.

MiG 5 and MiG 7 would be very popular in MA methinks.

Its definitely time we had a MiG in AH

There is Mig 3 in WB FH. It's almost completely unused plane. It isnt nearly as popular as I-16, Yak-9T, Yak-3, Lagg-3,La-5 or La5FN.
Yes Mig3 is good plane above 6km. But it's performance is just too poor below. It has no change against 109f4 which will outperform it in everything at lower alts.
I think it's unpopular because it's plane that dies if it goes low. It's not fast low, and it doesnt turn very well (109f4 follows it easily) If it tries to turn harder it will spin..and not recover. It can't climb..and it doesnt have the guns.
Knowing altitudes you usually fight in AH. I can say mig-3 will be mostly unused plane. I don't think many pilots are willing to take it high and can resist staying there even if only con you seen in last 30 minutes dives low.
I would advise not asking plane only for it's looks.
How about really useful planes like P-39q-10, Yak-3, Yak-1, pe-2, p-40, bw-239....and so on?

I think she fits better the planeset :)

Hi Illo thx for response :)
Sure your right and sure there are planes to be modelled first but to argue that if a plane is inferior it makes no sense in AH is IMO not right. There are many planes that are inferior to others at distinct situations. I think modelling a plane in AH only depends on RL i.e. if a plane saw action in certain scenarios it should be modelled (depending on the models built).

So i guess my first post doesn't make it clear: I love this plane but I only want it in AH because it was a very important plane in the early WWII independent of its performance.

Therin lies the rub. Everyone has thier own rational for how to advance the plane set. Some Choose National Balance (Build the Itlalian Airforce up) Others choose historical numbers/Role (Build the P-40e) Others choose MA utility (Build the Ki-84) Others Choose Scenario/CT Utility (Build the Mig-3) I think its best to try and find the plane that best fits as many of the above criteria as possible (and any other criteria that might might be suggested). For example:
1. the Mig3 Helps National Balance, giving the Reds another Fighter.
2. The Mig3 was a mainstay of the VVS during Barbarossa. It was an important design for the War, as it was one of the first modern monoplane fighters of the Soviet Union.
3. Probably not a lot of utility here. Hi alt performance limits it. Might find a role patroling for lone buffs, but if modeled as in other games, Illo points out how it has been forgotten in past attempts
4. This one is tied closley to #2. Any time you have something that qualifies at #2, it usually qualifies at #4 as well. Although those assigned to fly it in the first barbarossa scenario might learn to hate it. I'd be the first to volunteer though lol.
Anyhow, that's how I see it.

Good post Sikboy I second that

Yeah me too.
IMO Mig-3 would be ideal bomber escort in 1941-42 scenarios.
I've flown it some in FH but it's quite usual i don't fire single round in sortie. Or ping few cons before they dive low. If some stupid 109 tries to stay and fight..yes he will be dead soon.
Only problem with that is you get lonely up there. 3? Machineguns arent really good for Z&B so you can't really pick cons below. I think this could be different with AH DM tho. :)
My suggestions for eastfront fighters. (my most personally wanted list also)
Scenario: I-153, I-16(must, this was VVS in 1941, period.), p-39-q10(what is eastfront without p-39?), Yak-3(must for late war), Yak-9d(1943 must plane) and BW-239(for something to shoot these things+la5s down with)
Main Arena: P-39q-10, Yak-3 (good performance. yak-3 is in same cathegory with La7, low alt überplane. P-39q-10, faster than 190As over 1km, maneuverable, 37mm and more. Pokryshkin preferred it over La-7 and even i understand why)

this doesn't look bad either :)

Btw. duedel is babek in that same KG51 Edelweiss??
I've flown some escort to their JU88s in WB FH. I rarely have seen such impressing formations of 10 ju88s. :) All flying in correct Ketten.
-
No Illo he's not flying with us. We are only 4 people and all (dont know bout pooh) have started with AH.
Btw i second ur plane set its really deliberate but it would be ÜBER if u add the Mig-3 :D
-
hell I'd fly I-16 in the MA!! not just in scenarios...
SKurj
-
Skurj do you fly a6m there too? Same difference AFAIS..
-
Yeah.. I-16 it beats zero in turnfight and has 2 shvaks:) Very much used in FH.
Allright, dueldel...Mig-3 joins scenario list for years 1941-42. :) I just kinda forgot it.
here is about another KG 51 ;)

Zeke outperforms I-16 in probably all areas with the exception of guns and turn radius...
I-16 is open cockpit tho! +)
I fly zeke occasionally but prefer the hurriC at the moment for the firepower, and it can out turn most zekes +)

Right skurj, Fights usually end up I-16 HOing every attack attempt of opposing fighter.
Thats about most annoying part of fighting against I-16. You dive on it's 6 with 1000yards separation and it can still pull HO against you. I-16 is easier to kill if you can fool it to bleed it's E. Without E it cant HO you and is sitting duck. False attacks work fine for making them bleed E.
I-16 is HO dweebs dream. ;)
-
OK, call me stupid but what the heck is "WB FH"??? I want to fly I-16...
On second thought - don't call me stupid:)
-
Well illo, i fly the hurriC alot, and not many of my kills in it are HO.
In a 1 v 1 yes there likely would be many HO passes fighting against an I-16, but 1 v 1 is the exception in the MA, not the rule.

warbirds freehost
Not same generation sim that AH is. I like AH best, but i have some hardware problems which keep me away from it. :(
btw. check your email.
