Title: new LAN hth feature
Post by: streakeagle on September 13, 2001, 10:17:00 PM
I am not sure when this was added, but it was exactly what I needed. Thank you HTC. Now I can play on my side by side computers without netlag or problems caused by sharing the same cable connection through a router (both computers couldn't be in the same room at the same time once I started using my router due to IP sharing limitations imposed by the cable router). Bravo HTC! Thanks for listening  :)

Yes I am serious! LAN mode is an available option in DX8 Beta 14 (I don't know if it was available earlier). I don't remember HTC announcing this feature, but I remember asking for it  :D

When you choose to go to HtH, there is a checkbox for LAN mode. If you check it and you choose to create a game, your id is "hoster", if you join a game, your id is "userX" where X is a number between 1 and 7 maybe? I have already tested it on my computers and it worked great. Now I can put an airplane on autopilot and test gunnery on a real target flying straight rather than on those drones  :)

I think this would also be very useful for comparitive performance analysis: ie start two aircraft at same speed and altitude then put them in an autoclimb and see who climbs faster.

This has all kinds of research and training potential besides allowing for the obvious play benefits.

Now "test simulators" won't have to tie up the HTC servers with their flight sim demo (I heard it was a store where they allowed customers to fly AH hth on up to 8 computers).

H2H Play has never been run on our servers, the only diff beteween lan play and normal H2H is how the clients are given the ip's to connect to. If you connected two machines on a lan threw the old H2H all game trafic is still local.

If it does, I hope the responsible parties get beaten down...
