Title: join requests
Post by: chaunc on July 27, 2001, 09:32:00 PM
How can we make it so somebody cannot join?  I mean it is so annoying for people who do not ask to try to join you while you are shooting at somebody or in bombsite..or trying to take off.

I had a person who shall remain nameless (shaun01) try to join me endlessly and caused me to crash while flying next to ground.

If you find out, please let me know.

Here are my favorite situations:

1.  Gunners who join, then vanish at some point during the flight.  So, a moronic con crawls slowly up your 6 and you are thinking "OOooooh easy kill"  until, well, you guessed it, your guns never take a shot since the imbecile that joined is no where to be found.

2.  Gunners who just can't hit the broad side of a barn.  Pretty self explanatory...

3.  Chatter boxes.  Unemployed comdians who think they need to be the life of the party.  Usually identified by comments like "What movie are they playing on this flight?" and such.  While they are commentating on their life, the airplane and such, 20 cons are creeping at you.

4.  Stealth gunners.  They claim they are there, but no one, not even you, can detect them.  On occasion your guns move on their own, so you assume they are there.  But are they?  Not a fun way to fly a long bomber sortie.

Don't get me wrong, I have had a few guys man my Lanc guns for me and they have really dealt some serious death and destruction.  But, I largely gun my own and I'd sure like to find out how to light the "No Vacancy" light so these idiots to not attempt to pop in while I am in the crosshairs, planting eggs on the HQ.

Type .showjoin

This causes join request to appear in your text buffer and not the big pop up box on the screen.

I hate when guys send the join requests without asking first.  Some guy did it to me twice in very short order, causing me to get killed each time.

Thank You for the .showjoin request I will try it.  If there are any more "dot" commands that can even disable joins I would love to know.

I'm with LePaul. It would be nice to be able to kick a gunner out of the plane.

not only kick them out, but force them to bail and ride the nylon elevator all the way down.   :)  you can use that kinda like flares and chaff to throw off an enemy.  sorta.    :D

LOL, I have often wanted the ability to do that, both here and in AW!  I hate being told what to do by a gunner, and nothing annoys me more!    If I am flying the bomber, I will do what I please - I don't mind advice if it is given politely, but the final decision is mine - and gunners should respect the decisions of the pilots and concentrate on looking for the enemies instead.  When they start sending private messages (or messages via the intercom in AW) and won't stop, its then I wish there was an 'eject' button!   :D

I do a lot of gunning in AW (I don't consider myself good enough in AH) and would never dream of telling the pilot what to do!  If they want to go high - great!  If they want to go low - great too!  I really don't mind either way.... and if we manage to rtb in one piece, so much the better...   ;)
