I am looking at getting a MP3 player that I can use while I work out.
What do you folks recommend?

Intel MP3 (http://www.onmagazine.com/on-mag/reviews/article/0,9985,104469-1949,00.html)
Available at Sam's @ $179 with more accesories than you actually need.

Hey Milo!
I use a Diamond Rio 500 wich comes with 64mb internal, plus mine has an extra 128mb, wich gives me enough space for songs.
I bought mine used WITH the card for $95 in the anandtech.com 'for sale/trade' forums.
Sound quality is incredibly good, and the unit itself is very small and light (only one AA battery)
The display is backlit and the menu system is powerful and comprehensive.
I think this model is not in production by the same name (Diamond changed their name to SonicBlue).
I recomend this little gadget its priceless for working out..
BUT..
IF you can afford it...
Get an Apple iPod.
AMAZING little player, 5gb in a small package, looks VERY stylish and sound quality is superb. THE best portable audio player ever made. Downside? goes for $500-

I just bought the Samsung Yepp (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005RG4O/qid=1015972478/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_67_1/104-1704320-5659125) for my wife. At the time, they were offering an additional 32MB smart card for free. Even so... $70 or so and then another $30 for a 64MB smart card isn't a bad deal. She loves it.

Oh.. and the iPod looks really stylish. Too bad it's Apple.;)

I bought a RCA Lyra2. It's awesome. The feature I like best about it is that it also has a FM tuner. Comes with a great set of headphones too. Only came with a 32mb card, but smart media is pretty cheap these days.

I have a Lenoxx-MP786 for more then a year. One of the first affordable MP3-CD players.
Disadvantages are low battery life (about 3-4 hours on 1.6 A/h accumulators) and stutters on high bitrate files.
If I will buy a portable player now - I'll buy anything from "second generation", not "full-size" but for 80mm CDRs. Now they run for up to 10 hours and 80mm disks cost ~$0.7 here in Moscow. Or something like iRiver SlimX (iMP-350)

It's over$150, but it is worth it. And it can play factory MP3-CDs that cost $2-3 here.
