Everytime I watch the National Geographic channel and see that photo, I always wondered what happened to that young girl with those eyes. Thanks for the link.

Wow.
Look at her face now, thats what the hardships of a wartorn land will do to one of the most beautiful women I ever laid my eyes on.
I'm gonna try to find a high resolution image of he young face for my wallpaper.

Subliminal message or typo? :D

Hmmm... they never say her age.
If you want a picture that pretty much captures a life of hardship, this one always comes to my mind:

Octavious, you little salamander.
I'm still getting used to my new keyboard.
You have no hope of me desiring you.

I remember when the portrait of this beautiful young woman appeared on the National Geographic cover. I have thought about her often, and also the situation she was in then, and now. I'm glad she is still alive. I could never forget her eyes. They are so intense.

I've seen 17 years of drugs, casual sex, and general partying, take a much higher toll on American woman.

Ya, not that this girl hasn't had it extremely rough, however....
Clean her up, give her some nice garb to wear, maybe some makeup and I betcha you still gotta knockout!

aww Animal just funnin w/ ya :)
and you're right, she is very beautiful.
-
yeah, but it looks like she's had her nose broke a few times since the first picture.
-
Well it said she was married, didn't it?
Life is brutal for women in those areas. They treat their dogs better.

Coupla years back at the local library's end-of-summer sale there were several boxes of National Geographics. Started out a quarter each, but by the end of the weekend they let me have 'em all for free. There were a coupla of copies of this issue in there. I've got one framed and hanging on my wall, along with some of the other famous NG pics.

NPR interviewed the photographer this morning. He said she was now in her 30's with 3 kids. The photographer (or maybe the magazine) is providing some financial support for her to help her children go to school.
