ahhh the truth is such a pretty thing when it's on your side :) Way to stick it to em hehehehe.

OC? Well, it did ;)
But just the same no matter what HiTech says there the folks that 'dis' him in that topic will always hold a grudge and nothing he says would change thier mind towards him.

but he did slam dunk em huh?! ;) )

Just out of curiosity, I havent played WB in a while and find the numbers quoted to be very alarming. Is it true that WB arenas have only about 100 people in them normally?
-
Dunno about the numbers. I'd be interested if their company sounded like pro's. They don't.
This Dan “Hotseat”, is kind of embarrassing.
Has he no concept for presenting a major international software product for his company without getting all user-level hoopty defensive and competative?
A crack here and there is fine, but this guy stands out all the time.
If you have no respect for your company, have some respect for yourself Hotseat. Yikes.

Exactly how much of my flight model, host code, communication code, smothing code, user interface, are use still using jay? - hitech
That had to sting a bit. :D

I have no idea, the last time I played WB was last august. I played for a week of their free month or what ever it was. I enjoyed the community as always, but I couldn't help but laugh at the state of WB3, after 2 years of development. Most of what I saw had to be WB1.xx/2.xx code that HT did :) all the dot commands were the same, the UI was basicly the same. Planes and plane loadouts. The worst thing though was the stupid damage model and the mushbirds effect they added when the playnet dudes quit in 99. Why anybody plays that game is beyond me. I love the denial they all display, it cracks me up.
-
Only thing I have a problem with is Dale letting the russian criminals hang out in his game.
hotseat
Who are these "Russian criminals" ?
F.
-
HT is a programming God. That's about it.
My aspirations is to become half of the programmer he is - if I become that good, I'd feel damned fine.
So HT, how about telling us how you started with all this stuff?
And Pyro, and Yankee, Ronni, the lot? Would be nice to have a more in depth look at yer background.
Am working on Aces Low - a superb 3d flight sim. Just did it in java - with the basic vector math and matrices for graphics engine. It's amazing. I get around 10 fps when I'm 'flying' in the town I've created. Net code unfortunately is a bit hosed. Heh.
Converting it to C++ now, just straight off, for the fun of it. One day, AL will be a serious competitor to AH. :D
-
heheh i love it i just love it ... :D
-
ex-programmer myself.
to Dale .. guess this means I buy him a beer at the con or something...
better yet!!.. I'll keep paying to play :)
-
Who are these "Russian criminals" ?
====
Probably a reference to "Freehost"...a version of WBs 2.xx reverse engineered by a russian and made available for free net play across the globe (I dont think any of those guys are subsribers of HTCs game).
Are there any russian players in AH?
-
Think I've met two russian players in AH yeager, can't remember their names though and I don't think they still fly. However, why on earth shouldn't HTC let them in just because the put up a free host of of WB, and then updated the game it self more frequently then WB staff did?
oh, ops, went away from the topic there...
-
i think vfGhoste was a russian. not sure tho.
i miss him:( he was always fun to fly with/against
-
Hblair talked up AH while it was still in Beta, me and Milenko gave it a try, but I wasn't convinced, I was having a lot of fun in the WB Challenge Ladder.
Then 2.77 came out, and the damage model went to hell, people asked HS what was up and could it be fixed. His reponse, to paraphrase him, was "we know about it, we don't care, and don't have any plans to ever fix it".
Then when people asked the reason for the terse replies and snide comments, he said he didn't have to be nice, that wasn't what he was paid for. Hhhmm.....moderator of that forum doesn't give a toejam about the customers.........
HELLO AH!
Got me a better vid card, said goodbye to WannaBe 2.77 and haven't regretted it.
I've missed some of the guys over there, they ain't all bad, ==sd== is a heckuva trainer and all around good guy.
But when I downloaded WannaBe 3 for kicks, just to see what they had done with it, hell, two years after I left it is still not even close to the AH Beta I came to.
Now they've raised prices again......
I hope iEn keeps that sim going, competition is good, and each time AH pulls further ahead of the WannaBe sim, it show how utterly stupid iEn was to let HiTech and the crew get away from them.
HTC!

Oh my god.
I fell off my chair laughing at work over that one...
*pant*pant**must breath**pant*
now everyone's staring at me....
:D
-
eddiek,
yeah the players over there are for the most part great people. I had the pleasure of flying with them for almost 5 years and still miss alot of them, like prop all the trainers who were there when i was a trainer. They're all good people, I just can't for the life of me figure out why they'd still give money to IEN after almost 3 years of AH setting the standard of WW2 MMPOG and superior customer support
HS is an arse (this in itself I would think should drive away most of the player base) I quit because of that fool (HS) when I was a trainer (waited for 3 years to get that job too) and got my WB for free. I can't imagine giving him money.....
-
AH customer support is top notch.
I've called down there several time, YANKEE is always pleasant and willing to either help me or direct me to whomever CAN help me if the problem is beyond her.
There were some good trainers over there, ==sd== just seemed to stand out......the guy took the time to work with me in H2H when I told him I had an upcoming duel on the Challenge Ladder. We stayed online working on strategy for over 2 hours, then I went out and swept the match.
I don't begrudge anyone their choice of sims, I just know what works for me. Sometimes we AH'ers give ourselves a bad rep going over to the other sim's BBS and talking trash, I try not to, but I get damn tired of seeing this sim slammed the way they do sometimes.

yeah I won't go over there and trash talk WB, too many friends over there.
BUT :D
I will trash talk it here, though not the code because most of that's HT's and it's the best part of thier game LOL. You know I almost took a job there about 3 years ago, 1 month before I quit playing WB. (did i mention it was free for me when I quit? :D)
Honestly though I really was suprised by the WB3 beta back in august. I couldn't believe how much like the old WB it was, just a new paint job is all they did for 3 years!!!!!!! 3 years!!!!!! ok 2.5 years, but still. Look how far we've come over here in the past 2.5 years.
You gotta love HTC's K.I.S.S. buisiness model (KeepIt Simple Stupid! :D) it works better than the corporate thing, and they probobly make more money too!
-
I've had the displeasure of reading quite many of HS posts now, and he's always anoyingly rude, just don't give a rats bellybutton about the community, and as soon as Target Korea was anounced he made an F86 for WB3... HA!
Besides, WB3 ailerons are connected to the stick with a very cheap rubber band and it takes a year for it to actually react, 190 FEEELS GREAT LIKE THAT! Ok, let's roll, stick fully left, 1 second... 2... 3... AND WE'RE ROLLING!

You just pegged the worst thing with that sim besides the people who own it. By the time the damn thing starts rolling it's already time to roll the other direction. I think I saw somebody over there say that you have to do like full left aileron, stick center, full right aileron, stick center.... basicly the way i read it was that you have to center the stick after each control surface movement, then do the next movement after it's centered long enough to register (.5 seconds 1 second I don't know) Yeah! that's a simulation of flying!!

As long as were discussing WB...
About a month ago I figured Id give it a try - tried to sign up for an account and couldnt get the CPID I wanted... ok - so I took me back... choose another... taken... again.. taken. Then I get the message "You have attempted to create too many accounts today." Ok fine, diddly it - WB is crap anyway, right. :P So I get my credit card bill and I have 3 charges for 24.95... pissed am I. So I call... I get an annoying "siren" at account maint. line... tech support doesnt answer and every one of my 6 emails has gone without a response... WTF am I supposed to do? Anyone have a service number that DOES work!?!?!
-
eddie.. I agree about ==SD==
and I agree about HS.. what a joke.

I'd call the south carolina attorney general  :D

Call your credit card and dispute the charges. They wont stick.

It took almost 5 months, plus a letter to iEN and a copy to the Missouri Attorney General to get my account closed at iEN.
Hey, I like the folks who fly WB's however, the company that operates it suffers from Cranial-Rectal Inversion Syndrome.
-
I had to cancel my CC in order to stop WB from chargeing my card
Now thats customer service:rolleyes:

Or better yet, give me $1000 and I'll go down to their offices (about 30 minutes from here) and put the smack down on HS and friends for ya, baseball bat and blowtorch style.
For $1000 more I'll film it. :D

I still play WB, because of the people there. Here are the cold hard numbers that i usualy see:
OffPeak 2.77: 5-25
Peak 2.77: 17-46
Offpeak 3: 11-28
Peak 3: 30-80

Damn that's sad. What about durring events? That was what I personaly missed most about WB besides the community.
-
Let me tell you what, if and when WBs3 goes retail you will see many hundreds (if not more) instead of low 80s during peak and those who love that little community will get the shock of their online lives as a result (not to mention the all too predictable problems with customer support which will increase proportionately).
I left WBs because I knew D&D and crew had their toejam packed tightly together and if I loved WBs, which I did dearly, then the next deal would be better and it was and remains.

OK, I gotta chime in here a bit. I hardly ever lurk AH boards but I picked the right day ...
First off, hello uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud ie :)
Secondly, you will note in the agw thread that HS (if not some other people) responded tactfully and, I think, honestly about % of Dale's code left in WB3. (Stunning several dozen ex-WB AH players who are used to HS's blunt responses...)
Personally I wish they had thrown out everything from old WB to do WB3, not that I am trashing Dale's code (maybe his SPELLING hehe) but that there are many limitations you put on yourself when you elect to take a bunch of existing code into a new project instead of starting tabula rasa.
Thirdly, WB pulls about 60 for Scenario Lite on Sunday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday, 120-odd Euro types for EMC Wednesday, 90-110 for Target For Today (like old WB Weekend Warrior) Thursdays, and 250+ Sunday evenings for the Squadron Select Series (S3).
I usually see 80-120 in WB3 main arena and I don't fly 2.77 any more if I can help it.
No WB vs. AH flames here, just the facts as I know em.

HEHE I've been waiting all day for somebody from WB to come over here and eat my lunch...........
I'm glad it was you bcnu :) how ya been? I agree with you're first 2 paragraphs. To be honest I was quite shocked at HS's response too, he was respectful ;)
I can't believe the numbers are so low durring the week. I still hope to fly with all you guys again one day over here :) I really don't understand why more don't. But then I didn't understand why every old WB vet didn't jump on the AH bandwagon from the start. Then again there's alot I don't understand
good seeing ya man, and why don't you give the old HTC 2 week trial a whirl. It would be great to see you in the arena :)

Funny how HS is tactful and mannerly only when HT is around. Is it because he knows HT will set him straight if he tells the usual story about the "old code" ? hmmmm...

Never met this Bcnu guy but he seems pretty nice, now AH community has got a new goal, bring him and his squad to AH ;)

:::Throws $10 into the pot for the "bat and blow torch party":::
Spoke with the Discover people today - very helpful. They are in the process of explaining to IEN that their charges on my card are bogus. Hopefully this will pan itself out on the next few weeks and I will be free of the Stalinist grip IEN unjustly has on my finances.
I read the posts from the link provided at the top of the thread and got peeved... tried to create an account and start defending HiTech but got "we are not taking any new registrations at this time." Regardless - I hope that some WB'ers browse this BBS and they see some of the negative feedback they are receiving as a result of the "customer service" provided by IEN.
In terms of the game itself there are some things I do like about WB... by comparison there are ALOT I do not like. The flight models are crap - feels like FA3 with stalls... and whoever posted that the grafix in WB are better is on crack. The simplest of things makes AH better... the little things - like actually modeling every shell out of the barrel... WB only models the tracers - try shooting at the ground and youll see what I mean.
I guess the bottom line here is that WB is not only finished in terms of "the sim every AW'er wishes they could afford" - it is finished in terms of "flight sim with a following." WB is through and despite the fact that at one time it had a respectable community - it is now full of pompus egotistical morons in denile. Time to close your doors IEN - not getting anymore of my money - which according to your members list is roughly 30% of total income it seems...

good seeing ya man, and why don't you give the old HTC 2 week trial a whirl. It would be great to see you in the arena :)
Oh no it's turned into a recruitment thread ... I've already *been* in AH, I was in on beta days. Maybe my memory is slipping but didn't we shoot each other down a few times back then?
Why people stay, or leave for that matter, is complicated. Some people were motivated to leave by friendship (snak left same time Mo and crew left, for instance), some by anger (lots of posts here about how HS ticked someone off), or boredom, or because their squad all left too, or even (gasp) because of flight modeling or somesuch; or they stayed for the exact same reasons. I know it's shocking, but people disagree about flight models! There are even cases where the cluster**** which is the story of TCFAICI played a part.
They might also have stayed in WB because they were Mac pilots. (I'm not even going to speculate on trying to take a G4 Mac, run Linux on it, then get WineX to run on that for AH).
Also a LOT of people have accounts almost exclusively to fly the S3. (http://www.s3events.com)
Recent versions of WB3 have started to actually use HS's modeling rather than 2.x modeling, which you may or may not like; funny thing is the FW190a4 handles more like old 1.11 WB than any of the WB2 versions (which is good for you Luft-waffle types). Also 1:1 bullet modeling is in at last.
Anyway I was over here to grab AH anyway for a piece of writing I'm doing but I'd be surprised if I signed up for the free trial; life is busy in RL not to mention squad, CM duties, and taking time to post here :) Guess I picked the wrong day to do a download, I'll let you guys have 1.09 AH for a day or two until servers stop belching smoke. I'll probably grab the latest WB3 instead for now.
Wilbus, I will not be pushed (go look up the reference, it might do you some good) ... but if I was subject to things like recruiting drives, you would be better served by not trash-talking the people you are trying to recruit before you recruit them :) (and Target: Korea has been announced for a LONG time before the last WB-CON, they just happened to be showing demo code around that time).
Be seeing you,
6
P.S. As of this writing about 215 people in WB, FYI (90 WB2, 125 WB3). That's a single data point with no marketing value at all. Obviously the number gets bigger on Sundays when the people who are primarily interested in Big Events all show up for S3.
-
I wonder just how many of thsoe 215 players are really paying for their accounts?

Heck if I know, but probably all but a very few. Is that comment really necessary?
Seriously, I take no @#$@ from people who post on a.g.w. flaming AH (as opposed to disagreeing civilly about FMs or whatever) and you don't help your cause with snide remarks over here either.
Ya know, once upon a time we were all one flight-sim community ... of course back then we were paying $6/hour to fly half-time relaxed realism Air Warrior. If there was really a perfect sim we'd probably all be flying it.

Damn fine attitude and good posts.
I think you are getting some knee jerk reactions from some the responses. It is rare that the two communities cross post to each others boards without some type of flame war ensuing.
I just wanted to let you know, I think your posts were spot-on and your reactions displayed a high level of class.
