Title: Possible new tank sim
Post by: AKSWulfe on March 13, 2002, 11:36:51 AM
From 1C/Maddox, the team who made Il-2.

These are supposedly early screenshots from it:

Minimum 1Ghz CPU for it.

WOW!  Looking forward to it (not the PC upgrade expense though)

I never was able to find "PE" in a store near me and no one I knew had a copy to even sell when I tried a year or so ago to find it.  Not even a warez version on the net to see if the MP part was fun. :(

Operation Flashpoint has a WWII mod coming too. Looking forward to seeing that one also

Just loaded OFP last night (thks again Swoop!) only had about 30 min. but the graphics were identical to that of Medal of Honor.

Westy, I think you would be disappointed in PE. I just bought the updated release a few weeks ago. It was probably a great game 2 or 3 years ago, but the graphics were just too dated for me to enjoy. Think Mig Alley on the ground, and that's about what the graphics in PE looks like. I played it for a few days, now it's sitting on my shelf collecting dust. If you really, really want it, send me a private message and we can work something out.

I hope this new sim is as well made as IL-2. I think a really good tank sim will be a welcome release.

Mmmmm my russian is quite poor but
"strategiia v realnom vremeni" seems more like "real time strategy" than "simulation" to me.

Anyone of the russian speakers can tell us more about the thing?

Nonetheless the screenshots look awesome and in fact in games I like better to look at tanks from the outside and just tell them "go there" and "fire", the interior is usually a mess and too hectic being TC, driver, gunner and company commander at the same time (I suck at PE and Steel Beasts).

Oh, maybe it is an RTS game. I dunno, I can't read a lick of Russian. I know Maddox is supposedly working on a tank sim, a new flight sim and I guess this RTS game too.

cc. Thanks for the replies (re: OP:FP  &   PE).   Still, PE was touted as the best tank sim out there for the longest time and I did have fun with it's demo for quite a while.

I've got this new one book marked to watch!

You are kidding, right?

MOH graphics are light years ahead of OPF in quality... but OFP is modeling a completely different world, so they have to be.  OFP is great at what it does, but for pure eye candy, the Quake III engine won't be beat until the new Unreal 2 engine comes out.

It just means that while you are sitting in your little simulated tank, the strategy on a grand scale is simulated on the background to provide you with environment and things to do and look at - as opposite to scripted missions.

Real-time strategy is nothing new - Falcon4 is a great example.

[bad russian translations removed, I saw the english link]

I´m still seeing more a "3d Close Combat" (which I will run to buy) than a "Panzer Elite meets Falcon IV" (which I would run to buy)

Thinking of it now, it would be cool a MMP game that could be played both ways, some people acting as commanders clicking here and there on little tanks with their mice à la close combat, and cursing the real people busy inside the thanks struggling to count the turns it takes to crank around a damaged powerless Tiger turret (yes, I think Oleg would get to model accurately that). That could solve the "WWIIOL anarchy".
