Title: Range part of voice needs to be squelchable
Post by: Dago on March 14, 2002, 09:15:06 PM
I like being able to go voice on a private channel with the squad I am in, but I dont like being forced to listen to others in "range".

We need some method to be able to shutdown that part of voice.

We need to be able to:
1) squelch in range audio
2) use ahvoice for squad comms instead of having to share a number with the arena.

Not only should we be able to squelch the 'range' channel but we should also have an option to turn the vox on or off.  The sound problem with vox also has to be fixed as well as the slight stutter you get when you hit the transmit key.  And when you select Squad for your vox channel, it should only allow your squad to hear, like the text squad channel.  My 2 cents...

Yes please make range voice squelchable. I had to listen to some 6 year old kid tell everyone in detail what he was doing every 30 seconds. His voice was like a fork on a chalkboard. And even though it said "HOST:XXXX has been squelched".....he wasn't

I haven't heard a single peep from anyone using the range radio channel.

Although I agree you should have the option to squelch it, I think it's a fantastic idea. Just a little rough around the edges at the moment.

I think the Range channel is great!  Being able to talk to others in close proximity is something I think will be really useful, especially in missions.  Not only will I be able to talk to any gunner on board my bomber, or pilot of a bomber I am gunning, but will also be able to talk to escorts - that has got to be a big plus!  :)  Same with defending fields... talking to aircraft above while I am on the ground in my Osty has got to be a plus too.  :D

I hate range channel ..........

Wish we had the ability, like the rw button in setup on clipboard with the three buttons

1 enable private channel (or what ever its called)
2 enable range channel
3 disable ah voice (some of us use other vox programs)

Any way integrated vox is cool and I appreciate it........

edit
all you guys with bad clarity or stutter check the wave in box may help...........I have it checked np if I use other vox programs with direct sound I get problems, especially rw.  I automatically checked the wave in box.

Dont know if it has something to do with the range channel but since it was introduced I noticed much greater cooperation and coordination of planes with GVs when defending bases etc.

But I agree there should be an option to squelch it as well as the feature to distinguish the source of the transmition not only by the 2 beeps which you can easyly miss but the name of the speaking player in the top right corner should be RED for channel transmision and MAGENTA for room/range chatter. And also the feature of cuting the master volume when recieving is pretty annoying. Need a way to disable it -> dont want my engine volume etc. go low when someone is talking.

Also there is something to be done with the voice compression itself because those robotic voices are awful.

If u move the effects volume all the way over to the right u can still hear all effects at same volume as voice.:)

On the one hand I agree that the range channel could be very useful, on the other hand I would like to have the option to turn it off for all the reasons stated above.

Agree with most of the above, I want private squad comms, and give out the VOX number if/when others are flying with us or in a mission with us.

The Squad channel only ability is definately needed. The CM's will be using RW for Invasion Sicily this weekend because it allows us to tune to an IP address, and this is much more secure than what AH voice has at the moment.

Other than that, I'll sure be glad when I can finally say "Bye Bye!" to RW. :)

Actually, RW has been very stable for our squad as long as its not auto-enabled thru AH[/i]. :)  Sounds like it was always at HTC's end where the problem was originally..
