Title: how many squads fly country specific only aircraft?
Post by: AG Sach on July 29, 2001, 07:21:00 PM
I am just curious for I know JV44 we fly only LW or the occasional JP/ITa iron.  We strive to make the LW iron work for it is a challenge and I am wondering what other squads out there feel the same way?

I know the 56th flies only the P47 while flying together as a squad.

As a general rule, I think it is safe to assume that most squads do not enforce a "one country" planeset.

My squad, KG200, is a friggin historical German squad- wanna know what we fly on bomb runs?  B17s ;-).  I fly mostly German iron as well, but it is not a hard and fast rule.

Lentolaivue 34 flies G-2 and Ju-88 when flying as a squadron. In addition to those we try to keep it LW iron only, but there are no Ju52 for goons or Ju-87 for killing tanks  :(

Though sometimes when flying individually people use allied iron as well.... I know I do, when getting frustruated of certain constant enemy planes  :)

9./JG 54 is German only.

But is soon just a memory in AH.

VMF-323 trains in the F4U-1D (its my belief that to become proficient as a cohesive team, one must eliminate complications such as changing characteristics of the aircraft) and we do about 75% of our mission night ops in the F4U-1D, F4U-1C (VH and GV denial) and the F6F hellcat.

For Squad Night the 111th Fighter Group flies the P-47D in both air-to-air and ground attack missions.

The BK's fly only orange/gold planes.  I have noticed that the MOL lately has flown only the red ones.   the Bk's find this only mildly limiting and we can live with it.   anything more and we would be down to 2 or 3 members and/or having a high turnover rate.

Overall, The Assassins have an axis tilt when flying fighters, but we fly most of the planes. Matter of fact, one of my favorite missions to run is the Lancaster NOE job, especially on large fields. (boom, boom, boom) P47 Jabo runs are fun too.
