Just a minor point concerning the otherwise nice new Spits. The carburettor air intakes on early Spitfires were significantly smaller than those currently modelled in AH. See below for the Spit I.

The same applies to the Spit V, and Seafire II. The current carburettor inlet we have in AH is only really correct for the Spitfire IX.

Yes, I agree, I posted a similar post a few days back but without the pics.
They had the SpitV and Seafire right in 1.08, now they are wrong.
I wish they would have a WW2 model guy do final QA with this sort of stuff.
Other than that, they are very nice, but it sort of takes away the MkI look to it.

Yeah, quite true Salem. I noticed that when I visited Hendon & Duxford the other day. Did the Spit IX have the oil cooler in the main centre carb intake and hence why it is bigger?

PS Salem, where in the UK are you??

Late model IXs had the larger intake that did a better job in dusty and/or tropical conditions. I believe they were fitted in 1944, before Normandy. Almost all late war IXs had the larger model fitted on operations.
The I, V, and Seafire all had the smaller model, like the Hurricane Is (which was done right).

The early Spit IX's had an enlarged intake to allow for the higher power of the new Merlins. Although having a larger frontal area, these were still quite short, superficially similar to the earlier Mk.V style.
As Squire says, later Mk.IX's (and all Mk.VIII's) were fitted with an elongated carburettor intake containing the Vokes Aero-Vee filter. This was a neat little installation compared with the early (bulky) Vokes filters mounted on Mediterranean Mk.V's, and the smaller 'Aboukir' filters, also found on Med Mk.V's and (early) IX's.
Replicant, I'm down Bath way.
cheers,
Salem
[edit]
As an afterthought, the long filter isn't really correct for the AH Spit IX either. As I understand it, AH models the early Spit IX with the Merlin 61. The later Spit IX's had a significantly better performance. So...new art...or a better Spit. ;)

I hope NATEDOG tweeks it up in a revision, its good artwork, I like what hes done. Cockpits are great looking too.
