I would like to know if there are ANY real life pilots on AGW or the AH BBS who have "time on type" for ANY of aircraft flown in the virtual skies of either flight simulation.
If there are, would you please respond in this thread, indicating aircraft type, model and number of PIC hours logged, both solo and dual?
Please, I would appreciate it if you would NOT add to this thread if you don't fit the criteria above.
Thank you

You may want to look up Whitey or Knfe of the Buccaneers, I think they have more than a few hours in Whiteys B-24.
-
Hey camel,
Whitey has a C-45, not a B-24.
The C-45 is basically a Beech 8, I believe.
Beech 8 designed in the late 30's and Whitey's C-45 was manufactured in 1943 or there abouts.
Twin engine (450 hp each), 5 passenger (plus pilot and co-pilot) aircraft. Beech 8s were converted to Nav and or Bombardiar trainers during the war. After the war, they were re-converted to personnel transports again and sold to private buyers.
Whitey also owns and flys an AT-6.
knfe flew F-15 in the USAF.

a few hundred hours in a PA18 Super Cub (ours built in 1947) does that qualify ? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

have 5h in a piper J3c, built 1944, does it count?

400h in a KitFox IV and about 100h in a Murphy Rebel (but PYRO said he'd never model them) and .... ah, yes 30min in a 1945 P-51D Mustang "Miss Torque" ... uhmmm didnt know Torque was married ...

Howdy: In respond to your inquiry, The A/C in not yet in inventory in AH, But I have about 50 Hours second in command time in a B25 that was once used by Bendix corporation I believe it never saw any real action. A Local owner ran company bought it for about 10k (took twice that much to refurbish and keep running each year). great airplane tremdious pwr. It was truly a pleasure to fly it.
ps": it was really different climbing the crew ladder to the cockpit. could almost hear the sounds of Glen Miller playing in the Mood somedays flying her.

Wow..that's great AKNiteflyr. Personally, I'm only a real life Private Pilot with a 1974 C172(M) and a total of 1 hour of B17 "Aluminum Overcast", time on type as NON PIC in right seat.
The thing that struck me about the B17 was how THIN the skin was. It reminded me of the skin of my C172. I guess it had to be to permit a large bomb carrying payload. I simply couldn't imagine being inside it with flak and 20 mm rounds passing clear through the fuselage. The ONLY area I could find with any armor protection was the radio operators section, behind the pilot. I've seen a lot of noise on AGW and here, about how much it more it should take to bring down one of these big beasts. I would have thought it was easier than we think because the really thin skin (covered with all kinds of aircraft systems electrical wires), would have permitted even 30 caliber ball ammo to easily pass through and injure crewmen.
Was the B25 fuselage that thin too?

Yes.

badger...forgive the slightly unrelated content...
but i have always wondered what was keeping AH/WB/ect... from simply putting thier money where their mouth is and taking the time to model a c-172 or other vastly popluar civilian plane that is the bread an butter for most of the private pilots who fly the game...
suddenly with a c-172 to try out... it would be a simple matter to determine which flight model is the most realistic and where the problem areas on the models are

I guess I was used to the thickness or lack or thickness in ref to A/C skin, personnally I thought it was no thinner or thicker than possbily gooney bird skin but it was increbly strong. We used to buzzz a local grass strip and pull her into a chandelle do a couple of steep 720's.
doing some single engine work was no problem lots and lots of power albeit no bombload. Just a couple of pilots enjoying the flight.
It definately was a Hoot: George Perez Jr 2096637cfi/mei....
10,000 hrs total time
7,500 hrs pic mixed between se, me a/c also mixed in some Beech 99 time lear 24 sabra 60 and shorts brothers skyvan twin beech martin 404 DC3 almost anything that moved on the flight line coving almost 20 years of flight. also was USAF radar operator abroad EC121H flying out of Otis AFB, Mass. but thats another story (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Bigred i think you win the prize for best suggestion of the day.
The modelling of any aircraft which is going to have more "real flight time" to compare the FM with is a great idea for testing the validity of the games FM.
But of course it would only be valid for testing and therefore not for the game itself in the short term.
Would any time be allocated in this direction ? hmm i doubt it really.
But nice idea all the same.

I once saw an F4u at an airshow that was being restored. I was able to feel the metal skin covering the wings. It was thin enough to bend with my fingers. I dont think any U.S. WW2 plane could resist a 30 cal bullet. It would simply be too heavy to fly if it could stop a 30 cal bullet.
-
Bigred that is a GREAT idea and is EXACTLY how you refine the accuracy of simulation code in the engineering field.
However I still can't see myself switching sims because a guy says it has a better C172 model. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I have a half hour in a AT-6 Texan, does that count?
