i used to have the worst time with night.
i checked my monitor, vid card etc still no luck....
turns out my monitor resets to 50% brightness everytime it is away from power!
huge difference. it's kinda obvious but it may help ;)
-
Doesn't turning up the gamma sort of defeat the point of it getting dark?
J_A_B <--thinks nighttime should just be done away with in the MA
-
yes you're absolutely right, adjusting gamma is cheesy.- but monitor brightness is a whole different story than gamma adjustment. at 100% it is just 'regular' darkness.
adjusting gamma on my card washes everything out and makes the colors all wrong.....what i am talking about is seeing darkness as it was intended - still dark but not impossible.
before i had to stop playing at 4pm game time because i couldnt see the runways - i couldnt even fly thru a cloud bank or in the early morn hours- now it is completely different.
if your monitor is at 100% now turn it to 50% and you'll see what i was playing in.
-
Same i couldn't care less for nighttime, its pointless with brightness and gamma adjustments

heres a tip fer nightime......
log as soon as the suns begins to slip over the horizon........
Nightime sux..............

I like the night. Wish there was a way to make everyone happy...
-
Adjust your Digital Vibrance slider. It made a world of difference for me.

Night is good for one thing... bombing.
Vehicles can't take advantage of it because the trees kill them. Dogfighting is cheesey because it's nearly impossible without using icons.
Right now, it seems pointless.
A few things might make it better.
1. Headlights for the vehicles.
2. Searchlights for the AAA.
3. Synchronize the game time to real time so that night always happens at the same time. This way, we can plan for it. Imagine... night-time jabo raids that arrive on target at sunrise.
4. Maybe the duration of night should be longer. That way, carriers, and raids can move greater distances under cover of darkness.
5. Dim the cockpits. This will help night vision.
-
ok well if you can't see the runways well enought to land at 4pm game time it might be helpful...
-
Just for fun why not landing lights ?
Or position lights on the wing and stabilizer ?
Just for fun. TH eposition lights should be able to switch on and off.
IMO that would be a nice feature
freeze
watch ur step i may be around :-)

I can adjust all sorts of things to make it "not night" which is what most folks do......
Theres really nothing like about.........
milkrunnin or icon shooting..................... .
and if all else fails then adjust you vid/monitor settings to make it "not night"
any way best tip I have for night is log..........
-
log on nightime ?
Why isnt it fun to play booo in the cover of darkness ?
just adjust ur gamma form ur vid card and the night loose their fear
-
Firstly, the allies and enema had no option to adjust gamma and such, in WWII. Nighttime rules, and it is a part of this SIM. Get used to it! I darken the house-if possible-and it makes the night sooooooooo k-kool! :D
This is a feature and benefit of Aces High. Look at it like this... if you didn't blackout in a hard turn, or if you didn't have to use rudder to takeoff or land, would it be better? I think not. Then we are talking Air Warrior, and other substandard sims. HTC has made this a great SIM and something that resembles the good, and bad, of flight and combat! I for one, love it. To each his own.
Night Rules!

honestly i kinda resent that. either you didn't read my post at all or you're just using my post to advance an anti night agenda.
either way i thought we played enough for you to realize i'm not one to tweak anything to cheat - i guess not.
one more time.....i am not suggesting you tweak your monitor or gamma to make it 'not night'. i am suggesting you make sure your monitor isn't half of normal as mine was.
is your monitor 'properly' adjusted? if so then take it's current value and reduce it by 50% then you'll have a notion of what i was playing under. then tell me that putting it back is a tweak.
- can you see the runways at 4pm gametime? i couldn't.
- can you land if a field is under a cloud? i couldn't.
- can you play wolfenstein, moh etc? i couldn't.
at my current setting night appears black and the only light is a orangy glow around the fields. if my screen were tweaked it would appear greyed out - it doesnt it appears black.
before, there was no distinction between fields sky or anything else all i saw was a glaring panel not even stars.
this isn't about adjusting anything beyond proper - it's all about ensuring you have the settings right in the first place.
if they are past normal then it's bad but it's equally bad if they are 1/2 of normal isnt it?
this isnt for people who want to tweak anything this is for people who can't see for sh*t in places where they should be able too - like afternoon and morning.
night is still difficult and dark and if you don't like that then no problem that's totally legit, but i would like to fly the 110 at night as it was flown for the biggest part of the war - the fields are now just bright enough for me to land, which acceptable.
the sky is still dark, the planes are still only visible by icon....save the cheat remarks for the real cheaters. others may have their monitors too low, and it'll cause them to have trouble seeing in places where they should be able to see better, this is targeted at them -->solely<---not a guide to greying out night so you can cheat.
-
lol i didnt say it was a cheat I said I just log instead of adjusting it on my end.
You can do what you want......
Night time in the main is in no way representaive of rl nighttime flying. Its hardly simulating anything.
If you like it then fly it.........but I guarrantee most people do 2 things..........adjust settings so it aint night or log........
So my tip for dealing with night is just log...............
and your post is titled "nightime hints" not "monitor tweaks"
-
logging isn't a bad idea eiher because if the next guy is looking at day and you aren't then he has an unrealistic advantage.
i'm still waiting for searchlights and flak guns firing over the bigger bases and cities. then fighters that weren't radar equipped etc could operate as they did in rl. proper landing lights would also be nice.
so much could be done with night - it seems incomplete as is.
-
I agree with Wotan 100%
Most (not all but most) of the guys who like night are those who turn up their brightness and gamma and basically fly around with a stupid, unreal advantage.
Then again, who WOULDN'T like being able to fly around in day-like conditions getting a bunch of kills on people who can't even see you to defend themselves (I did this at a friend's house once and that's exactly what it was like). I mean, talking about an easy way to build up your score!
Sorry, but that's not my cup of tea. Night is pointless. Heck, even the people who would normally benefit from night--bomber and GV drivers--really don't because of the jerks who "adjust" the night out of existance. And no, I don't mean you mrfish, I know what it's like to have a dark monitor.

Using Digital Vibrance doesn't turn night into day, it allows me to see more detail, especially during the rise and set of the sun.
-
I don't adjust my gamma, monitor brightness, or anything else for night flying.
I like night flying just as much as day flying, I just wish more damn people would take off in bombers during night so I can intercept them.

I don't adjust the monitor. I adjust the room... lights off.
IMHO, if you wish to adjust your monitor to cancel the night, go right ahead. You're paying $15 per month so enjoy it anyway you like.

note to self: consider reading comprehension level of audience before next post...

ok just thought i would add this to the discussion +)
I used to play a quake2 mod which was called GLOOM (i think...)
Anyways it involved marines versus bugs basically.
As a bug you could hang from the ceilings, hide in corners etc. The maps were typically quite dark...
It was a great mod!! I had a blast playin as a bug +)
Guess what destroyed the mod?
Gamma and brightness adjustments... it became so one sided the balance was lost.
