Title: This time it was a REAL gift..from my wife
Post by: Curval on March 18, 2002, 07:35:11 AM
When I became a CPA I recieved my certificate in the mail and there was no formal ceremony or anything.  Recently I applied to the Bermuda Institute of Chartered Accountants to get my C.A. designation.  It was granted and I was informed that I would be invited to convocate with other recent graduates on Saturday evening.  So, I was the "old guy" there.

But, my wife had a little surprise waiting for me on Friday night when I got home.....I was in shock for the rest of the night.

I have no watch, no cell phone, no beeper.  I refuse to be a slave to "time" or instant communication. :D

Three accountants were up for the same job.

They were all asked, "What does 2+2 equal?"

The first said without hesitation that 2+2=4

The second said that due to compounding interest 2+2 would actually be equal to 4.586

The third said, "What do YOU want 2+2 to equal?"

The third guy got the job.

hehe

Accounting really isn't very complicated once a person understands what debits and credits are all about, combined with knowledge of the relationship between a balance sheet and an income statement.  It took me a while to figure it out but once you "get it" it is like a lightbulb goes on.

I actually do very little number crunching in my job now...I run offshore companies and advise clients on off-shore structures.  But, I did "put my time" in the trenches when I first started.

My wife is a CPA and she always talks about taxes like I talk about flying. Neither one understands the other but we keep talking.:)

Right on! I have none of these things either, and if that isn't enough, I regularly don't answer my regular phone... even at work. :)
