Ive been with AH now for a few years, i play as much as i can and find it to be one, if not THE best online fighter sim there is to date.
I came from Warbirds which i spent a couple of years and to me AH has proved that its dedication to the game and the way it listens to its players is quite astounding.
The last patch, not just a patch with a couple of aircraft and a few tweeks to the code, but a patch that Included more aircraft, tweeks PLUS a full extra package for editing and recording our AH film files to AVI.
Not only this, but it also included AHvoice, and wether you love it or hate it, AH voice IS a wonderfull add on to AH which dose add to its immersion factor and realism, plus it has enabled me and others who actually like it to have far superior communication with each other than ever before.
AHvoice is another step forward in on-line gameing, where soon people will be able to talk CLEARLY to EVERYONE in all online games.
IT IS CALLED PROGRESS..
If you dont like it fine, i understand. hopefull they will add a switch off option for you guys later.
But gee whizz reading some of the posts, some of you sound like a bunch of school children, boo hooing that everything isnt the way you want it right now!!
If there are bugs, well thats the price of upping the anti, and i know AH will be working hard to fix these.
People leaving in droves??? WTH?? when i first joined AH had about 200 max, now we have 400 plus
people really need to take a loook at what they are getting for their few cents a day, the price of a newspaper.
Constant updates, far quicker and fuller than WB ever had
Large add on packages allowing you to have more funtiionality and enjoyment to your game.
Debateing and saying you dont like somthing is one thing. Moaning like a wounded pig, calling everyone who likes somthing you dont names and insulting them is just plain rude.
Funny i though the AH community was full of Aduts enjoying shareing a like minded interest in WWII dogfighting, seems i was wrong.
Shakes head.

Hmmm... AHFilm looks cool. I get BSOD everytime I try to record an AVI. I can't share your thrill for it.
Obviously, AHVoice works for you. So far when it has worked for me, it's about half as good as RW. Again, I can't share your thrill for it.

It's ok, Obear. This is just the typical post-honeymoon whine fest that happens after every release.
I predict by next week we'll be seeing the "When is 1.10 coming out" threads. :)

Ya, you have to remember that this is a case of the bad apple ruining it for the bunch. I think the small miniority will squeak and moan if they made any changes. It'll even out soon enough. HTC is one of those companys that really does listen to everyone. Not like some *coughwwii online* *coughWB* companys. Sorry, somthing in my throat.
:D

I have no probelm with people expresing there views, its just the rude way some poeople do it, if things dont work or they dont like somthing, they dont just have there say, they insist apon litrally slaging the game off and insulting others that are getting on fine, this is the rudeness that is unessasary.

Until now, I haven't been part of the "small minority." I've had no trouble with any of the other patches. It's damn frustrating and I'm probably behaving poorly... apologies.
Of course, I know that HTC listens. That's why I'm still here.

I agree with you 100% Obear.
But what can ya do? Some people were raised to be polite and others weren't. Just don't let them get you down. Keep the high road and don't let yourself get dragged down to their level.
There a lot of people on this BBS that agree with you. :)

Yeh i guess so :)
I love AHvoice i have to say, last night was such a blast listering to all the 6 calls and planning in one of ripsnorts missions it just felt so real, sweet. Thanks to all that joined in and made it a great flight.

Yep Obear1971 your right!
Sure there are things that could be improved but it's always a matter of how to tell something u don't like and when i read some posts about 1.0.9 I really ask me what kind of people are posting there. I see statements like: "Make this", "get rid of this !&%§", "WTF" ... this is painful, annoying, disgusting. I really like those people to be in the same situation like HTC. Do something u think it's nice and an improvement and get offending threads that tell u u've done totally it wrong, bad and it's useless.
Critisism is important but some people should take a coursus in which they are told how to explain themself without hurting others.

You'll never hear a 'rude' word from me.
(I pulled the plug on AHvoice so hard it hit me on the head)

Oh, I know the feeling. It's very frustrating and your feelings are justified. You pay for a product and not being a beta tester, right?
hug?

...I thought perhaps we could use something to lighten the mood a bit.
This is a little something I am throwing together for a few of my classes- they are in Flash and need a year-end project. This stars "Yours Truly" in his first feature film.
Go ahead, make fun of me, forget about your other probs for a while, and thank your lucky stars you aren't me. ;)
This is big, 6 or 7 MB, so be warned! (http://www.nlcs.k12.in.us/deckardb/friends1.swf)

You probably just got sand in your boxers from livin in BFE. Just shake em out and you'll be back to normal!

Well just my li'l 2 cents worth...
We now have the film editor, we have AHVoice, now mebbe HT can focus on the actual sim itself +) improved gfx, larger planeset, cooler strat, more ordnance options etc etc +)

How much more would you pay per month so HTC can hire a full time QA Staff so you do not have to beta test ?
Just saying . . .

And what software company that has a full time QA staff has EVER released a bugless product.
HTC has always worked diligently to resolve issues. I trust them to continue with that trend.

Ya, if it was more than a 2 day to 1 week wait time for a patch, I wouldn't play. I understand that it's a work in progress. Even if they are putting in poopy little allied planes to be eaten by the german WAR MACHINE!
*sigh* first and last mention of that. ;)
-
AHV ain't perfect, but it ain't half bad either. Doesn't drop connects and lock up everything like RW would sometimes. Doesn't sound anywhere near as good as RW tho; it makes everyone sound digital and fake (except TeeeRex, he still sounds like TeeeRex! lol) However, I like the tuned channel and range channel options. Duedel saved me yesterday using the range channel.

Hi all,
HTC is just a great company, they can hear and learn, and that is what keep them on top. So hands off from HTC! :D
Actually as I said already 1.09 is a great step toward right direction IMHO. It is small step for HTC, but big step for AH players... Hmmm, think I heard something like that before on some other occation? :p Anyway, who is unhappy with 1.09 strat wait for 1.10, with buffs formations strat will be changed someway anyway.
Till that the best way to be heard is to make the following: post your ideas and concern in the constructive way, it does not always work, but often it does.

As someone who's been around since beta version .36, let me tell you that you cannot judge a new release until around the 3rd or 4th patch. When 1.08 first came out it suffered from extremely low fps. When 1.05 came out the program would crash about every 30 minutes. All of these issues were resolved within about a week and often more things were added in the coming patches. (P47 was added in a patch. ;) )
Just give HTC some time here and I'm sure all of you (well almost all) will be happy with the final product. :)

Obear:
I for one am not surprised by all the complaints, whines etc.
One thing is for sure; here in AH everybody has an opinion, sadly it usually fleshes out to appear more like a whine. :)
Whatever trips their triggers;)
I for one didn't care for RW at all; mainly because it didn't work and tended to freeze my screen, dump me to the desktop, reduce frame rates or, simply crap out on me. I stopped using voice in AH altogether. I am from an older sim and got used to typing...the good ole reliable:) But members of my squad are excited about using voice/vox so I try it.
This AHvoice has the potential to be heads above the other voice/game products out there IMO. I like the potential for speaking with squad mates, and for coordinating missions etc with other squads in my country. Once I get really familiar with it perhaps the voices I hear and my own voice will become clearer too. One thing I don't care for is hearing the voices of others all the time, and haven't quire figured out how to shut off transmissions I don't want to hear.
I'm not a fan of talking to talk while I'm fighting. IMO that can be distracting and important details can be missed; especially if not watching the text line.
In general though, I think HT and crew have done a fine job with it.
-
Best way is compare AH to other online games:
-AH is developing fast.
-HTC is listening players.
-Community is great (well not Animal)
-Players actually know something about history and ww2.
-
Call me a cheerleader.
I love 1.09 in a big way, AH voice may lack some of the quality that RW had, but being able to talk to both channel AND everyone else in visual range is a major plus. Plus, being able to tune someone private makes my life as a trainer SO much easier. I can say something on voice & reinforce it in text when I have time or a hand free.
As good as it is however I want more. I want a 3rd channel dedicated to wingman. One that when you
".wingman Daddog" will also automaticly tune him private. With a 3rd transmit key this lets you talk to
Squad/channel
Range/room
Wingman
Would the average pilot in AH use it?
DUnno, but ask the same question of anyone who leads flights of 8 or more pilots on a regular basis. There is no such thing as enough radio or voice channels. :)
Hey HT, Got some kickbutt Homebrewed Cranberry Mead, can I bribe you?
-
well.... I didn't ask for any of the "features" that are in 1.09 and I was not waiting for it's release. I couldn't care less. I would of course, allways like new planes.
The new "features" are intrusive and need not be. Most whpo don't like em are simply asking for a way to turn em off or to tone em down. The fact that you like em is nice but doesn't interest me. I see no point to your post.

Wow!! I didn't know we had otto in AH.

I have only experimented with the new version today, but I think AHvoice and some of the alert features are nice. Laz, with all due respect, why try to belittle the thread....if you really thought it was without substance, stay out.

Oh, I see. So now I've been demoted, and daddog is your new Wingman? What's the matter, bro, tired of getting killed with me on your wing?! ;)

I tend to agree with your observations. People in the AH community can be rude, in both the active and passive sense. In the passive sense, it’s things like not thanking someone after he just saved your life – that sort of thing.
The AH Voice facility has been a great step forward for me. Those who don’t like it can turn it off. I will keep it on. Finally, I am able to deduce what’s happening, and to join in a campaign. Just yesterday, I was working with skyman and a few of his buddies – suave, manx, witch & gremlin are some of the names I recall. Also winged with maneTMP after his official wingman spatula had left. For the first time, I felt as if I was working towards a goal. No more wandering around alone, waiting to be jumped by a N1K, YAK, or LA7. The results were immediately apparent in my scoreline. Until yesterday, I had 60 kills, 40 deaths. I am surprised I didn’t die more and that my ratio was not much worse, what with the lack of 6-calls and total disinterest shown by some of the game’s participants. Yesterday, I accrued another 32 kills for only 6 deaths, and two of those were as a result of being vulched on the runway. That’s the difference that is made by working as a team. I wasn’t flying any differently.
Later, I was flying a F4U off a CV and attacking a nearby field. No-one was talking on AH Voice. I was clearing sixes and giving 6-calls. Then BOOM! No 6-call for me :( I realised that I was amongst a bunch of Quakeheads, so I left an moved to another part of the map, where I managed to find my old WB CO, Ramjet. And things were good again.
I have been condemnatory of parts of the AH community in the past. With AH Voice now so easily available, it’s easy to find the right guys to work with, and to leave the Quakeheads to their idea of fun. It’s their $14.95 a month, and they can spend it how they like.

Obear! Waltham Abbey is in Bedfordshire; it's one of the reporting points for VFR arrivals into Cranfield Aerodrome. Did you mean White Waltham, or Waltham St. Lawrence? Those are both near me.
