Being that those lovely fellows in Al Quada keep bragging about the USA about to end, what would it take? Is it really possible with bio or chemical weapons to destroy the entire USA?
If the USA is hit hard (millions dead) with bio or chems what would the likely response be and what should it be?
Also, lets say the USA is effectively terminated, what is the likely disposition of greater Europe, Asia and central/south America.
-
The most likely scenario would probably be ......
Just me and Claudia Schiffer left alive with a whole supermarket of ribeyes and 18 yr old scotch...........
sry....:D
-
It would be really tough to take out the whole of the USA...BUT:
Assuming it was bio or chem weapons then surely the effect would not be limited to the continental US. If biological weapons managed to do this people in Europe and the far East would soon become sick and spread the disease throughout their countries....there is no way to contain such a massive strike. People would be getting on flights when in early stages etc.
Also, as the US supports the world economy the entire planet would spiral into economic chaos...the ramifications of which would be devastating.
The terrorists would be destroying the entire planet effectively.
Reaction to this...
Personally I would go looking for Midnight Target and fight him for Claudia's affections.
:D
-
From what I've read about bio-weapons it would be VERY difficult to spread it all over the US. because:
A. everyone would have to be able to catch it.
B. It would have to have a period in which it stays in the body and infects others.
C. It would constantly have to be chaging and evloving and conituning to be infectious.
D. you'd have to infect at least 50,000 people at various part of the country with out them knowing.
E. They'd have to be smarter than the CDC.
F. It would have to be transfered in a "multi platform" manner. (fluid exchange, sexually transmitted, fecial matter ect.)
Currently we as people do not have the technology to engineer such a virus. I have some stories but they're too long to type out. So, sleep well tonight and don't worry.

I could bring the U.S. and most of Europe and the Pacific rim down in a matter of months with less than a million bucks and no chem/nuke/bio weapons.
-
I could get 10,000 other gigolos for that price, and I sincerly doubt your ability to pleasure that many "clients" in your life time, let alone a month.

I don't have a million bucks :( what could $100 get me? A small train? :D

100 bucks gets you the Dakotas.

attacking individual population center will simply strengthen the will of any nation.
with a government as sophisticated as ours and the technology to maintain itself to the very end it would be a pointless excersize in attacking it through its military or directly.
However a sustained and escallating campaign of terror, well beyond what we have seen yet, will erode away the peoples confidence in the government. Once this happens then a break down of the Nation will be inevitable. The Nation will begin to "tribe up" along race, religion, ethnic back grounds and geography. These groups will end up in open competion to fill the void and assume control. Balkanization......
We have one of the most non-homogenous societies in history. The things that keeps us glued together is our economy and the security our government gives us through its laws.
Destroy both then folks will look elsewhere then the kooks will come out of the wood work each with their promise of "rebuilding" the Nation.........ofcourse in their image.
Soon we will be 300 million in the US the question is how bad will it have to get?
-
geez...i hope they miss the ohio valley!!!!!
-
I agree.. attack the US directly and you 'wake the sleeping giant' as witnessed by recent events.
subtle indirect attacks on our society and commonality have been taking place for years.
In the end.. it depdends on what you mean by 'take out' the united states.
change yes, 'take out' no.

I think Charlie Daniels said it best:
In America
Well the eagle's been flyin' slow
And the flag's been flyin' low
And a lot of people sayin' that America's fixin' to fall
Well speakin' just for me
And some people from Tennessee
We've got a thing or two to tell you all
This lady may have stumbled
But she ain't never fell
And if the Russians don't believe that
They can all go straight to hell
We're gonna put her feet back on the path of righteousness and then...
God bless America again!
-CHORUS-
And you never did think
That it ever would happen again
You never did think
That we'd ever get together again
(We damn sure fooled you)
Yeah, we're walkng real proud
And we're talkin' real loud again (In America)
You never did think
That it ever would happen again
-END CHORUS-
From the Sound up in Long Island
Out to San Francisco Bay
And everthing that's in between them is our own
And we may have done a little bit of fightin' amongst ourselves
but you outside people best leave us alone
'Cause we'll all stick together
And you can take that to the bank
That's the cowboys and the hippies
And the rebels and the yanks[/b]
You just go and lay your hand on a Pittsburgh Steelers' fan
and I think you're gonna finally understand
REPEAT CHORUS TWICE

Seems most of you've dodged the queston. It's a hypothetical question....you can't think of what would happen?
1. Europe returns as THE capitol of the world. Probably with England in the leadership position. A slow, inefficent bureucratic system with the European Union will hamper their ability to react fast and decisevly, though.
2. China retakes Taiwan.
3. Japan remilitarises, probably mostly defense forces though. They've become too used to being non-violent to switch back to being Imperialistic.
4. Japan and South Korea become the inventors off all the new research and development products.
5. Canada becomes almost bound at the hip to the UK.
6. South America goes thru a series of small, low tech wars that get rid of drug cartel powers who now have no money.
7. Russia becomes the new working class producer of goods for the world. Not inovative stuff, but lots of cheap products that sell well.
8. The Middle East invades Israel and they respond by nuking the Muslims. Israel ejects all Palestians from their borders. The EU is not yet fast enough to enter the fray to halt any of this. Israel eventually loses and the Muslims do NOT spare any lives and kill indiscriminately. Not all Muslim nations join this union. Those that don't prosper. They might also war ammonst themselves.
9. The EU tightens up and streamlines the inefficiencies of their militaries to each other out of neccessity. Although never as fast to react (too many chiefs, not enough indians), the EU eventually fields as much power if not slightly more than the USA did.
In the end it is a four way toss up between these guys, probably in this order.
1. The European Union (Con)Federation (loose unity = confederation, tight union = federation)
2. Japan
3. Russia
4. China

I think Israel could win a war against Muslim nations.

Without the support of any other country? Well, maybe with nukes, as LtHans said.
-
Wow, LtHans
I think you need to stop smoking the crack.. it's ruining your brain.
I can agree with point #1 that Europe would become a superpower again.
I think the rest of it underestimates the resolve of people in general. The picture you have formed in my head is that the middle east would blow eachother up and every other country would colapse without the US to "guide us" in our international policys and trading agreement.
You know, we'll still have the UN or will that collapes without the US too?
-
Europe *is* a superpower.
It's where Denmark's at.
-
Can I live in your place of fantasy St. Santa?
It sounds so nice. ;)
-
If the U.S. is destroyed then millions would be dead. The world economy would be in ruins. Anarchy would breakout around the world. However, Canada would still be obsessed w/ the figure skating outcome. Bizarre-very bizarre.

Check out the years after Rome fell!! We only have more people now I doubt that they are any more capable than the leaders at the time of the fall of Rome. The world goes on only the people are different, and they have shown, that no matter what era or what situation they find themselves in, they always maintain their arrogance.
-
Not bad Hans, but you forgot one rather large (possibly nuclear) war in south-central Asia.
-
It would become a post-apocolyptic world with strange deformed creatures somewhat resembling humans roaming the earth and Mel Gibson driving around in heavily armed and armored vehicles and a crazy community of children talking about the long long ago....
Yup, just like the movies!

Israel would win because they are technoligically superior to most/all Islamic countries. Israels tactics and strategy are also superior. Guerilla warfare and terrorist activities arent very valid tactics in unlimited war.
-
No-one in Australia would care, we'd just get less tourists :D.

LOL! That got me to thinking. Could you imagine some invading Army trying to futz around in hmm...Hillbilly country, or down in the Bayou's? How about South-Central LA? lololol. Just picture a bunch of pissed off Hillbilly's, Cajun's and Gangs all gettin together haha. Man you'd end up feeling sorry for the poor invaders.

You know, I was going to say that. Actually, I figured you Aussies might join up with Japan closer, as an enemy in the region (China) could be threating both Taiwan and South Korea. Then again, you may not. Depends on what popular opinion about China is in Australia, and if the idea of fighting wars is out of the question or not.
And.....AGAIN! I seem to be the only guy who has actually responded with a theory. We've got mostly jokes, a few "It can't happen" and some critiques. Am I missing something here?
I may give up on this thread. Nobody other than me has the Cajhones to jump on the soapbox and give his?

They said the same thing about England 100 years ago. Spain before them. Rome before even earlier in history. There will ALWAYS be a major power with everyone else calling them imperialistic, heartless, and arogant. Doesn't anybody remember how England of the 1800's is potrayed? They own everything, are super proud of their Navy, and treated the locals with contempt. It's currently my USA's turn at being the king of the hill, and have rotten fruit thrown at them for just being there.
Do I beleave that my country is a paragon of virtue and perfection? Not a chance. We got to this postion by being nearly the last slave owning country and by wipping out the native tribes for their land. It's only been in the last few decades that the USA has finnally lived up to our own Constitution legally. Socially is another matter, but I beleave we're getting better each year.
But on the other hand I don't give a rip what anybody argues about "who is better". To me arguing is pointless. It is much easier to tell where the good life is by watching immigrant flow. Who has immigrants? Who has people leaving? Who builds walls to keep their people in? Who builds walls to keep people out? If your country has immigrants, then your country is a better place than the countries those immigrants came from.
-
Heh, was I too subtle? I thought Hans first post was pretty good, but he missed one very obvious flashpoint
Lacking restraining influences, the war which will likely turn nuclear between India and Pakistan finally breaks out of indirect skirmish mode into full war. How that spills into neighbors east and west is anybody's guess.
