Why is mandatory AHV better than optional AHV?

				You can turn it off.

Go to setup/voice, and turn the volume slider all the way to the left.
-
Turning the volume down is not the same as turning off the application. A lot of people are reporting reduced framerates. It seems reasonable to give people a choice whether or not to run AHV.

Way I understand it AHV is no longer a seperate application, but an integral part of Aces High now.

When AHV was a seperate application for you to start before starting AH it was in beta its beta stages, so most of the bugs could be worked out before it was integrated into AH.

				my two cents on this...

I have a gut feeling that AHV needs an option to be switched off if the user wishes.  The reason being is that with the release of 1.09 all of a sudden everyone in the arena is "forced" to use it by default.  What this does I think is that it puts extra work on the servers, while before those who wanted to use AHV had a choice, leaving the servers alone.

I am no expert in how things are configured on the HTC end, but we are seeing more lags lately.  Some people attribute that to more players online, some people attribute it to AHV.  If HTC feels that this lag can be taken care of by putting newer server or providing a switch to turn AHV off completely to free up the server...

I agree with your last post FDutchmn. Since 1.09 and the introduction of the AHV as an integrated function I damn near can not play the game. When it (AHV) was not integrated I had not trouble using either it or BattleCom for voice comms. However I did not care for AHV and its voice quality and I still don't. Now with that out of the way I find that even having a ping to HTC in the 30-50ms range once I enter the game my frame rates it becomes unplayable. My frame rates have taken hits into the single digits with just 4-5 icons in the area around me. I used to get frame rates pre-1.09 in the upper 60's to 85fps range.

I vote to either separate it completely again or to make it an optional function for those of us wishing to use another voice commo program.

Same here.  No FR problems.  I would just like the ability to disable it.

I did an upgrade Skurj and that was the only thing I lost in the upgrade. I think I have it worked out though because I had read of a problem with the TM F-16 FLCS. TQS and RCS. For some reason it would not hold calibration and it would get dropped randomly. I have a possible solution I am going to try when I get home from work.

oh but please don't forget that the integration of AHV enables vox to be recorded on film.  That can't be done if it was separate.  That is one of the best features in 1.09 :)
