Hate to admit, but my poor ol' Pentium II 450mHz is choking big time on 1.09. Way too often in furballs or base freeforalls my computer locks up and I have to reboot.
What is the new minimum computing horsepower needed for Aces High?

Windows
95/98/ME/2K
DirectX 8.0
DX 8 compatible
video card
PII 333 or better
Sound card and
speakers
Internet connection

Thanks, Weave, I have those minimums or a little better, but when the action heats up, my frame rate drops to 4 or 6. Unless I get away from that action, the computer soon freezes and I have to reboot.
Sigh ... same old story, flight simulators pushing state of the art home computing. I like to be on the cutting edge, but definitely getting tired of having to buy a new $2,000 system at least every three or four years.

How much ram are you running? I have a P4 1.3ghz machine that would stumble on occasion with 128 of ram. Upped it to 512 and now she just sings no matter what.:D

What vid card/drivers?
i am getting between 15/30 frames all the time (mostly between 23/30) on
celeron 400
196mb ram
tnt2
detonator 21.81
aureal sound
15" mon
U should be getting better frames than that if your video is up to it,what other proggies running?,please give us your PC's detailed "measurements" :)

I have a P-2 350
128 meg ram
32 herc vidio
My frame rate is typcally around 20,
depending on the conditions its sometimes under 10 and as high as 25.
I always shut down all programs except: Explorer and Systray.
I think this makes a BIG difference!
Use (Ctrl Alt Delete) and shut down everything else!

Halo, try using shift-F1, shift-F2 and shift-F3 to change your visual range until good FR is achieved.

Dude, build yer self a new box, lots cheaper that way. I recently built a box with an Athlon XP 1600+ for a little over $600. 256mb PC2100, 40g 7200rpm maxtor drive, sony 52x cd-rom, teac fdd, antec case/psu, msi k7n420 pro board (nForce). When I pick up a gf3 I'll have to add that to the total. Currently using the onboard gf2 mx (it's better than the tnt2 ulta in the old box anyway :D )

My setup is:
Win 98 2nd Ed
Pentium II 450mHz
256 ram
nvidia
Direct x8.0
running 1024x768
My cardinal sin is running TWENTY things in start instead of the two minimum AH recommends. Hate to turn all that stuff off just for AH to gain a couple frames.
Friend of mine tonight with latest 1.4 mHz machine was getting 33 to 39 fps while I was getting 17-22 at alt.
When I first did AH several versions ago, I could get into the 40 and 50 fps sometimes at alt. But then I started with 640x400 and got hooked on prettier resolutions. Don't even want to go back to 800x600, and I read somewhere where lower resolution does not necessarily improve AH frame rate anyway.
So ... one of these daze, the inevitable upgrade. Meanwhile I'll just avoid furballs and smoke.
Thanks for your inputs. The insight helps a lot.

Mandoble, thanks for reminding me of those visual range shifts. I toggled off ground clutter and reset visual range to the least detailed, and now I'm running between mid 20s and mid 30 fps. Big difference in quality of game play at some sacrifice of eye candy.

On a similar note:
my machine will run as high as 60 fps...but when night hits, anytime I look in the direction of the setting or rising sun, my frame rate plummets to the low teens. Anyone else see this?
My system:
AMD 900mh
320 megs ram
Kyro II vid with latest drivers
DX 8.0
Win 98
(can't be much more specific as I had alot of help building the thing.)

Halo,
If your running an old puter, somethings got to give. You don't need all that stuff running. Take some of them out, you can always start em when you need them. Take everything else out when you play, it only takes a minute and will improve your gameplay greatly! It will also help anythng else run after your done with AH. I'm getting better FPS with less of a computer that you have.

just pay for postage and ill send it.
Im in UK so probably only worth getting it if you in UK too or euro maybe, dunno if it would cost much but i doubt it would.
just email me.
has original box/driver disk/manual if you want them.
Also i have a 350mhz pentium II chip gathering dust. :D
