You have $600,000 to throw away on a gullwing?

My uncle has a machine shop that used to have a Mercedes collection behind it.  The owner of the building had a gullwing back there.. original condition.

The number plate is an old British one, from 1962 or earlier, although it could be a later car with an old "vanity" plate attached.

Ex-girlfriend's dad has a gullwing in his garage under restoration.  Used to help him with it quite a bit.

Lemme tall ya, I was more dissapointed about losing the chance at inheriting that car than I was about cutting the chick loose. :)

Well we got lotsa nice pics.  If I were to consider American Iron my first choice would be, top pic.  DeLorean second and Avante third.

eskimo2 asking price is somewhat over a third of DejaVu's price. :)

SirLoin: Yes I do believe you may be right. ;)

My current parade car is 2nd pic.

I like BLUE.

Some very pretty cars.  Except for one small problem.  They all suck.  There is one dream car, and it is this:

- 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-500 Convertible.

Like I said, there is only one dream car.  The rest are simply ones that would kinda cool to have.

Yep MrBill thats an old black British plate but I think the first "O" has been tampered with - looks wrong.

They changed to white on front of car and yellow on rear in the early 70's I think - maybe earlier.

You found one for $225,000?  That's not a bad price... but it is alot of money.  Classic automobiles have become a super shakey investment.

BTW.. at that price.. I'd check for authenticity.  Its kinda low for a gullwing.

I'd rather have something contemporary. TVR Tuscan - comparatively cheap and British made:

There was the geeky girl in highschool that used to drive one of those to school.  Her dad gave it to her when she was 16.  It was all original (even oxidized paint) and totally straight.  Damn that was a sweet car.

My first car was a 66 Mustang. I often ask myself why I got rid of it.

Then I remember. Compared to even the most sedate family sedan of today, that Mustang handled like toejame.

Yep, thats why the con job check remark was inserted in the first post.  I thought the plate looked skewed also.  Prolly cost me the price of a
new car just to send a expert over to check it out.
ERROR REPORT  the parade car pic I posted was a friends TF, I have a TD they look the same except for the headlight placement and a couple other minor details.

If we are talking American iron, this is my favorite, modified heavily of course.  I'll take mine with a 440  big block with 6 pack, stoked and bored, racing cam, headers,  all the good stuff....
I figure if a muscle car gets more than 4 miles per gallon than it can be tuned for more power.  The gas guage should double as a tachometer by moving visibly when you rev the engine.  A real car should be able to light the tires in 1st, 2d, and 3rd gears, and eat the 1/4 in <11 seconds.  Who cares about how it corners, its all about going fast in a straight line!  Seriously,  I like cars that can handle too,  (BMWs are probably my favorite for that, cant beat the M3)  but ever since I first saw a Challenger as a little kid,  I have wanted one.  Who cares about a sound system when you have 440 cubic inches of American iron converting dead dinosaurs into window rattling, pavement melting, power?  First good one I find that I can afford, and my entertainment budget for the month will consist of nothing more than gas and tires to keep the beast happy.  Oh yeah, make mine jet black.......

My first car was a 1956 chevy bel air 4 door red and white and needing restoration. I got it when I returned from the gulf war...nothing to spend money on over there..

I used Danchuk in california to get parts for the restoration and since I was a helicopter mechanic I had plenty of tools and the sheet metal guys helped in switching it from a column shifter to floor shifter.

I eventually painted it black and white myself, the paint looked wet all the time it was breathtaking.

The closest picture I have found to what I want looks like this (it's a 55, I like the blocky lines with the bird on the hood instead of the rockets and longtrim):

but convertible would be better.

right now I don't have a safe place for one but as soon as I get a garage I may do the restoration thing again..

runners up would have to be...

Woof.

and probably

How you guys can pick just one is beyond me.

Went the muscle car route in the 70's.  FUN! Great appeal to the eye, but only good in a 1/4 mile...bring a muscle car up to 140 mph, or try negotiating a 20 mph curve at 60, and they suck (Most suck, there are a few, like Corvettes, that do okay).

I prefer the best of both worlds, quick acceleration, great cornering, excellent handling at top end:

Priced good (under $40,000), good 0-60 time (5.9 seconds) good top speed (155) good HP (225 hp, 214lbs. torque)and not a bad 1/4 mile time (13.9 seconds)

BMW??? VOLVO???? these throwaways dont belong in this thread. Do you think anyone is gonna want to collect these boring things. They dont sound like dragsters, they would look silly painted Plum Crazy, and whats with the lack of 8 cylinders? collector cars?? NOW WAY!'

Not that I wouldnt give my left testicle for either one. I would sell it outright, get my car fixed, and go back to college (without begging uncle sam).
