Title: Xtreme Air Racing Demo & CD
Post by: streakeagle on March 23, 2002, 02:36:37 PM
A week or two ago I just found out that XAR finally released a demo. I tried it out and was more than impressed enough to order the CD. The CD finally came in today.

Unfortunately, you have to race at the easier levels to work your way up to racing at the advanced (Platinum) level and to earn the privilege of choosing any aircraft you want to race with. Of course the Bronze and Silver levels accessible in the demo are cake for AH players. I haven't tried Gold yet since I have only completed the Bronze race series since I got the disk and need to complete Silver next. But, it looks pretty good and it is fun to fly through the other plane's wake. Overall I really like this game. Of course you need multiplayer rather than AI to really get the full value. I am in the process of setting that up right now.

If you haven't tried the demo, it is pretty cool but doesn't permit multiplayer and only lets you choose two aircraft. I think all this game needs to be a hit is some fresh publicity for the demo. Give it a shot: http://www.xtremeairracing.com/

If they come out with the updates they mention on their site (more aircraft/racing classes and more tracks), this game is just going to keep getting better.

I didn't realize Platinum became available to single race after I had finished winning Bronze race season. Platinum is proving to be difficult to win. Even with the engine wide open and everything turned on (nitrous, etc.), they all leave me behind. Maybe the aircraft needs custom setup (engine, wingspan, etc) to be competitive?
