Nefarious' thread and the conversation I was having with Ripsnort got me thinking about this. I thought I would open a thread to capture your favorite mission types and mission plans for those who like to plan missions. The goal is to help some of us newer planners have a bucket of ideas we can go to for missions.
So tell us about your favorite types of missions, the plan for the mission, and how the mission is executed.
E.g.- saw a post from Hangtime not too long ago about capturing a number of bases in sequence using a flight of 6 B-26's, CAP on adjacent fields + taking out fuel at adjacent fields. What does the plan for these types of missions consist of? How many flights? What is the load out? How is this mission executed?

Even though I'm aluftwobble, NOE lancs with typhies clearin acks on large fileds are the funnest for me.
:)

I'd like to share, but its proprietary info within VMF-323 only. Sounds kinda korny, but if I shared, then everyone would be doing it...I have one particular mission that is 37-1 in successfulness.(the one time it was not successful, the lone goon disco'd just as he touched down) I don't like to give that kind of info out...however....
My favorite type of missions are all one country-type aircraft, ie, British jabo's, Japanese Jabo's, etc. Another is, AR234 raids with TA152 escorts, those can be real fun!
ANY NOE mission. :) Ya, most die, but damn, that will really get your awareness up!

I allways liked the large Jabo/field capture missions Zigrat used to run back in the good 'ol days. Also deep strat b17 raids into enemy territory with heavy fighter escort are great fun too if a little harder to put together and coordinate. :D

My fav are the amphibious assaults.

Understood Ripsnort. Not asking for anyone to share stuff they want to hold close to their chest. No offense taken by not sharing :).
Now to the missions stated so far, tell us more about them please.
E.g.- NOE Lancs & Tempests raid on large fields- how many lancs, load outs, what are their targets, etc? How many Tiffies do you bring/ # of flights and what is the load out? Are all assigned to AAA? Do some fly CAP? Do Lancs and Tiffies hit field at the same time? etc.
E.g. Amphibious assault- how many LVT's? escort craft? Fighter CAP? Jabos?
E.g. Zigrat's Jabo field captures- how many flights of aircraft? What types? etc.

Personally, for jabo's, if a plane can carry 1k bombs, I load them, whether they hit AA or Hangars, the reason being is alot of newbies join missions, since they're not too good at hitting with bombs, just a near miss with a 1k bomb will take out acks, or soften hangars..and, if all targets are down, 1k's are damn good cockroach killers (GV's).
P47D is best Jabo A/C IMO, carrys a big load, followed by the F4U-1D or 1C. Both can take an ack hit or 3 and keep flying (good old radials, like Verm sig says.."Inlines are for Nancy boys...hehehe) Check out my training films in the link in my siggy below, download the F4U-1D jabo film, basically, you only need one plane to take down a field to prep it for capture, but in todays world, its important to kill hangars as well...
Incidently, if you ever want a real lesson in jabo, join as an observer with Blitz sometime, that guy is friggin' unbelievable, can take out all ack in two passes, without taking a ping, in a P51D. He's VMF-323's only MOH recipient.

Two passes??? That's freakin' incredible. I will have to find this guy Blitz see how he does it!

The insane "100+ C-47's w. 3 P-51 escorts mass drop"
Historically correct (no not anally retentive historically correct) missions with Krautplanes.
Historically correct (no not anally retentive historically correct) missions with Commieplanes.
Not too many plane varieties! It sucks when we have 2 Il-2, 3 Yak 9u, and 27 La-7. Max two types!

Nothing beats a good vulch!

LOL bigUC! I haven't seen that one yet- the mass C-47 raid. Might have to try that mission some time.
-
It use to be fighter sweeps with killer turn fights at 3k in SpitV's. That darn 109G-10 is growing on me big time though. Now it's a G-10 turning with ponys at 15k :)
You pony jocks know who you are LOL

Squid Cookie raids.

 Sorry for being a dweeb. You'll have to explain that Hang! LOL!
Putting you on the spot Hang. BTW- could you also please explain details of the B26-fightersweep-fieldcap mission?
-
Rip: we all know your secret:
1) Send Blitz in. Wait .2 seconds, and all acks will be dead.
2) Send 15 vulchers in. Kill StSanta on the runway 3 times, then laugh at him on ch1. Watch outburst of profanity
3) Vulch for a good 15 minutes. Laugh at Santa
4) Goon the place
:D
-
NO, more like this:
1)VMF-323 hits field X
2)Blitz is hitting field Y by himself (usually a large field)
3)Blitz calls out for goon, all acks down after .2 seconds.
4)VMF-323 is still battling field X, mass cockroaches (N1K's and M16's) have upped because VH didn't go down firt pass.
5)Blitz gets goon himself
6)Blitz's field Y is capture
7)Field X is finally capture 15 min after blitz's one man army capture field Y.
:)

Punt for anyone that wants to comment and to keep pestering Hangtime :). Squid Cookie raids???

hiya all:
Well I hav'nt been here since tour 14, but I still have an idea or two for a good jabo mission.
1. 10 P47-D's
load out. two 1000lb bombs
one 500lb bomb
ten rockets
8 50.cal guns
fuel...50%
2. 5 P51-D's
load out. two 1000lb bombs
six 50.cal guns
fuel...50%
3. one C-47
fuel...25%
The P-47's go after the hangers on there first pass, dive bombbing them with the 1000lb bombs and the 500lb bombs, the VH is a must to take out first. after the P-47's have dropped there bombs, they then straff down the acks, best to go in atleast three planes per straffing attack, the acks will only follow the first plane to get with in range. after the acks are down, the P-47's then use there rockets to finish off the hangers that are still standing. as well as help vulch any enemy aircraft trying to take off.
The P-51's primary job is fighter support. If they can hang onto there bombs long enough, they can help the P-47's in a dive bombing roll to drop the hangers faster, the FH's are the targets the P-51's should hit first. If the enemy has aircraft up before the P-47s can start there attack, the the P-51's would drop there bombs and engage the enemy fighters to keep them away from the P-47s. the P-51s can dive bomb any ground units as well if they are not busy with enemy aircraft. vulching the runways is a secondary job as well for the P-51's. once all the acks and hangers are down, and there are no enemy A/C or G/U left to deal with, the P-51's should climb to a good alt to engage any enemy A/C that might come from another airfield.
Now the C-47 should be ready to move in at a moments notice, no more then 30 sec away. remember the enemy will come from another field when they can not up at the field you are trying to attack. the longer it takes the C-47 to release troops, the greater the odds are the enemy will stop your attack, you loose the C-47 and the mission is pretty much toast. by the time another C-47 can up, fly to the field, the enemy will be reducing your fighter cap and the enemy hangers will be upping soon. that will bring a wave of enemy M-16s and Ostwinds.
In all, it should only take about three mins to level the field and have your C-47 dropping troops. this kind of mission has been done and has worked a lot. It was Zigrat who started this mission setup, and the Knights back then took base after base with this mission. But the moment you start to take to long to capture the base, it is over. Plan another mission and hit the other team, they won't be ready and you may capture a few base's before they get organized to stop you. Now if you have any questons reguarding this type of mission, Zigrat is probably the best person to ask. as he knows this type of mission better then anybody. But as I was in on a lot of those missions with Zigrat, I do know how well they worked.
best of luck in your mission planning and hope you can make them work well and have fun with them.

Wolf, you'd love my USAF canned mission, hollar at me next time your in knitland, I'll post it up. :)

Ripsnort made a couple of missions like that a few tours back - It might seem "gamey" but it was for a "good cause" (can't remember)and it was a sight to behold :D
Can't dig up any screenshots now, but a few was posted on this BBS a few months agos.

ANY Zig mission ;)
