The tail is part of a P47 from the 9th AF, and connects to a light in the cockpit. Who knows what its for? You might just be surprised.

Tail warning radar was incorporated into many of the late war U.S. fighter aircraft. It was standard on the P-38L and a field mod for the P-47 and P-51. It simply lit a light to notify the pilots that an aircraft was close behind it. This looks like the dipole antenna commonly used at the time.

Exactly. The reason I brought it up is cause there has been alot of talk recently about "auto ck6 calls" and people wanting to get rid of the check 6 feature we have now. People might not know that some WW2 late war aircraft actually had these "check 6" radar antennae. Personally, I think if it was on the plane, and you can prove it, HTC might be willing to look into adding it as a feature.
My book only shows that it was there, not ranges and such though. Would be interesting to know how far back and to what angles it would detect aircraft. I'm pretty sure it was a reasonably short distance.

80% of the time, the aircraft on my 6 is a countryman. I think that after a while I would just ignore it.

Actually in offline mode the drones could do something else than just circle... I dont mean to propose incorporating an AI module.. No not this.. My thought is more like lets say If you get close to the drone it might do a barel roll or some other basic ACM so new players might be able to try to stay behind the drone or fly the plane to get an angle on it... ?
Just my $0.02 ;)

I tried once, but Drex's rates were a bit steep. ;)
