I was watching Raiders of the Lost Ark on AMC last night, and I was wondering if that is a real WWII plane or just some bs they made up for the movie. Does anyone know?
-
A great movie, to be sure.

:D
I assume you mean this one..

Check the last entry in this link.

The Germans did try similar designs (never getting out of the prototype stage), but this isn't one of them.
Edit: Typo.

I've never seen anything like it in my research. The movie was set in 1936 I believe. I'm pretty sure the Germans didn't have anything with swept wings and pusher props at that stage.

Fantasy aircraft designed to evoke the "wonder weapon weirdness" of the WWII era German aircraft industry.

Hmm.. since people haven't seemed to check that link, I'll just post the info here verbatim :D
"The futuristic Flying Wing was chosen by director Steven Spielberg to represent the ominous and advanced state of aeronautics in Hitler's Germany Production designer Norman Reynolds used a Northrop Corporation prototype of the Flying Wing and drawings by Ron Cobb to design for Raiders of the Lost Ark this strange plane that has no tail and no fuselage. The plane was built in England by Vickers Aircraft Company and painted at EMI Elstree Studios in London. In order to ship the elaborate prop to Tunisia for filming, it had to be disassembled and sent in parts, then rebuilt on location. In the film the Flying Wing is in Egypt (the Tunisian location) for the top secret mission of transporting the sacred Ark of the Covenant. But before the Ark is even aboard the plane, a series of dramatic events results in the fiery destruction of the Flying Wing."

Furious, that Luft 46' site is great. The art work under "Luft Art" is some of the most amazing work I've ever seen.

Cool, thanks! That is what I figured. Damn good movie though! :)

Yeah, great movie! But when the hell are we going to be able to get it on DVD? Sheesh, I can go to any store now and find such stellar classics like "Teenage Surf Nazi's Must Die" and "I Spit on your Grave" on DVD, but I still can't find modest films like, oh:
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Star Wars
Schindler's List
The Empire Strikes Back
I say right after we kill all the lawyers(no offense AKNimitz:)), we go after the marketing idiots!
-
banana there are all those titles on laserdic! :)
-
I actually read or heard somewhere that Lucas wont release the original 3 Star Wars films onto DVD until the next 3 are out. So this means no Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi until the next 2 in the series are done. I guess the last of the current 3 is due out in like 2 years or something like that.

it's a luftwabble wing with stuka technologie retractable gear
-
I'm really confused.
I thought you were refering by the Raiders of the Lost Ark with Indiana Jones in it, wich also has a weird German plane in it (Indy shreds a NAZI with the prop?)
-
Hey Superfly, can we get it as a non-flying,last ditch map room defender,it would spawn just outside the maproom door and start spinning when the troops are trying to enter, possibly chopping up enough up for a friendly defender to get in and save the day? lol
Just a thought :)
