Title: Belkin 4-Port DSL Gateway Router ??'s
Post by: Vermillion on March 29, 2002, 01:15:25 PM
Hey guys, I was just looking to see if there's anything I should know about installing the above named router thats not in the standard docs.

A buddy of mine has been wanting to hook his PC up to my DSL at the same time as my PC, and we found this router/hub on sale for $50 at CompUSA and that seemed pretty cheap so we split it.

Anything I should know? I'll be hooking it up to my Verizon Pppoe DSL connection.  The docs make it look pretty simple and straightforward, but I remember some of the problems so others have had with such hardware and AH, especially something to do with the NAT (firewall) setup

Thanks

I have a linksys router that all of my computers are using, into a cable modem.

it should work fine, you don't need to open any ports unless you want to host a RW session (and possibly H2H?), or any other server. Tho that will also require you to use static IP's on your computers (can't use DHCP with port forwarding).

Anyhow,  in the simplest case, you should just have to plug your modem and computers into your router, and dhcp will do the rest.
