Title: Sound
Post by: bioconscripter on March 30, 2002, 03:39:24 PM
I don't have any sounds when I shoot guns in this game, but the engine sound is there. I never had a problem like this before in any game. I have a Sound Blaster PCI64 sound card. What's wrong?

Hi,
Try checking the format of any sounds which don't play. Some 3rd party sound packs have stereo sounds in them. These don't play since the release of 1.09, you need to convert them to Mono.

(Sound recorder, Open wav file, File/properties). Check "Audio Format" If it's stereo use "convert" to change it to Mono then save the file.

Hope this helps

The sounds for the guns don't work but they are in the sounds folder, I don't get it.

Just checking the obvious....
Do they play in sound recorder etc as a stand alone wav file?
Are the volumes up in the sound setup?
Which Direct X version?

Other than that I'm stumped :(

Snafu  I have similar problem. But first, background stuff .....

DX8.1
Turtle BeachSanta Cruz  sound card
GeForce3 Ti200

When ever I try to ADD an extra pair(s) of speakers to my sound card , I only hear the sounds
from engines or guns (I forget which).. but not both. I only hear the complete sounds from the main set of speakers.

However when I listen to music (stereo)with 4 speakers I hear sound from all ...

When I check the sound wave from the game I find tht its listed as PCM 44,000 Hz 8 bit mono

Wondering if I can change the sound format to stereo and would that work.

I know very little about sound recording on a PC.

Thanks in advance

I have Direct X 8.0a and the gun sounds play in Winamp, but not inside the game.

So what happend to the computer that changed? Did you install new software or make any hardware changes? Around the time that the sounds stopped working what were you doing on the computer? Did you change any of the HTC files?

I've never had a problem like that with any other games. The gun sound never worked for Aces High for me, Never. The day I got it there was no sound when shooting guns.

Does this happen offline and online?
Check in setup and sounds, scroll down to
m2 primary gun
m2 secondary gun
make sure that they are turned all the way up.

Do you have all of these in the c:\programfiels\htc\aceshigh\sounds directory? They have to be spelled correctly to.
20mm_1.wav
20mm_2.wav
20mm_3.wav
20mm_4.wav
30cal_1.wav
30cal_2.wav
30cal_3.wav
30mm_1.wav

37mm_1.wav

Is it using surrond sound? How do you hook the extra set of speakers up?

Sorry sprint, Wasn't ignoring you, I'm a stumped as you are :( Just a few thoughts though. Have you tried moving the sound card to another slot? Don't know why this would make any difference but I've seen it suggested in other threads. Also are you running "Roger Wilco"? Finally I have a "Sonic Fury" which uses "Turtle Beach" drivers I think. I had a similar problem with GPL where I would suddenly lose all engine noise and be left with the sound of the tyres and other cars only. After trawling through various support articles I found that there was a conflict with the way the IRQ's were being allocated. The cure was to switch off "PNP OS" in the Bios and manually allocate the IRQ's I've had no problems since.

bioconscripter, Perhaps some of this applies to your setup as well.

They are spelled that way and they don't work. If it was my sound setup wouldn't the sound not work in any games? The only thing that doesn't work are the gun sounds in Ah and couple other sounds in AH, but the engine noise is there.
